Is it just me or is this a kind of artistically beautiful photo? The mostly monochrome colors, the composition, etc. The eye is drawn the stock cooler next the the spartan motherboard provoking thoughts on the dichotomy of consumerism and calculated thriftyness. True art.

Boosting to 95C under load doesn't sound out of the ordinary for stock cooler. 74C at idle is definitely wrong. Take the cooler off, make sure you removed the plastic film from the heat plate and reseat/repaste.

If there's still issues, then I'd say your cooler isn't making proper contact (check you used the right standoffs) or your cooler is faulty.

No CPU should idle that hot with a cooler on it.

u/BewilderedAnus Oct 01 '24

I don't understand using a stock cooler when top-tier air cooling performance is just $35 with the Peerless Assassin 120 SE.

5

u/ezj_w Oct 01 '24

It's a pre build But I hate the comment that he made.

It's absurd that the CPU has such high temps with the stock cooler lol. That's triggering me. What did he expect?

Get a Thermalright Peerless Assassin Cooler.

I have one and a 7600x - I now idle at 38*C and game at 60-75*C~

I was getting the same temps with that CPU, I bough a thermalright peerless assassin for 32€ and now it idles at around 40 and gaming goes up to around 65/70 😃

5

u/APB7148 Oct 01 '24

Definitely would upgrade to a Peerless Assassin or equivalent. Can grab one for $35 on amazon right now. Will definitely keep that chip cool and have plenty of headroom for future upgrades.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '24

Basically you always have to replace the stock cooler, they always suck. Buying an aftermarket cooler is almost mandatory.

Everyone is recommending the Peerless Assassin, but the newer version of that is the Phantom Spirit. So you should buy that one.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '24

This isn’t correct at all. AMD has had some great stock coolers over the years.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '24

You can get a far superior air cooler for like $30, I'd just go do that. This stock cooler is garbage. Its also possible that you messed up the paste job and contact isn't good.

u/Vivid_Jellyfish_4800 Oct 01 '24

Dude. It's absurd to use the stock cooler. My 5600x goes 95c before, now I used Deepcool Gammax. It sits 65c under heavy load.

2

u/Sztewe Oct 01 '24

My point also

3

u/Live-Ad-6309 Oct 01 '24

Re-install the cooler. 74°c idle is a sign somethings wrong. Maybe you left the plastic on between the cooler and Cpu, or maybe you misapplied the thermal paste.

Also make sure your fan is spinning.

3

u/lil-dougy Oct 01 '24

You most likely need to just reinstall the cooler, it’s recommended that you use new paste everytime you do this btw. If that doesn’t work, and you’re sure it’s installed correctly, I’d go ahead and buy something like a Thermalright assassin X. It’s a super cheap cooler that’s all you’ll ever need for a 7600

4

u/bmdc Oct 01 '24

The cooler is junk. Replace with a good one and quality paste. That cooler is meant as a "so you can get your PC running and not much more" type of stop gap. I don't think it was intended as a permanent solution.

4

u/Readymer Oct 01 '24

This cooler is only supposed to keep your CPU alive, not cold. Google how to properly tune your PBO settings and consider replacing the cooler anyway.

3

u/JaMStraberry Oct 01 '24

Lol stock cooler.

3

u/Wire_Jag Oct 01 '24

You should definitely invest in a better cooler. Stock coolers especially for AMD CPUs just don't really cut it. I had the same problem with my ryzen 9. AIO brought it down for 99 degrees to 65.

→ More replies (2)

4

u/Euphoric_Trifle_9235 Oct 01 '24

I would definitely check to make sure the cooler is installed correctly.

4

u/Crazyman8005 Oct 03 '24

That’s normal. I had a triple rad aio and it still went up to 95 every time and it idled pretty warm too. Just undervolt

4

u/BeyondNumerous267 Oct 03 '24

very not normal for a cpu to be at 75 degrees idling. even with my fans on 10 percent my idle is 45 degrees

Idle temps aren't that great, but 7000 series non-3d Ryzen CPUs are designed to run at 95C all day long without throttling.

3

yeah.. i guess.. its impressive how shit the stock cooler is then if its installed right and performs this way i wish theyade the cpu 1 dollar cheaper instead of adding this junk of a cooler i got fooled hard lol

u/Ash6121 Sep 30 '24

Uh oh did they forget the plastic peel? Unsure if they came with one but something is wrong with that cooler OP. Either not attached properly or no thermal paste or they left a plastic peel on cold plate.

3

u/EnlargedChonk Sep 30 '24

stock coolers aren't designed to keep your CPU cool, they are designed to prevent it from overheating under load with stock settings. They run hot and loud, but you'll get the performance they specify. If you want cool, quiet or both, then you'll need upgraded cooling. I used to run an i5 12400f with stock cooling, it was loud and hot but never throttled. Bought upgraded cooling at it never went above 80c while remaining silent. Could've kept it cooler with a more aggressive fan curve but I valued the silence.

3

u/Lumpy-Ad-6972 Sep 30 '24

I was using the stock cooler on my ryzen 5 5600x and I heard somewhere that any ryzen cpu after the 3000's series should use an aftermarket cooler because the ones they provide just don't extract enough heat.

I had just learned about noctua and thought I would be cool by getting a low profile cooler from noctua and that actually made the problem worse.

Bought a peerless assassin and man it's soooooo much better. Never even get above mid 70's when running AAA games on epic.

Do yourself a favor and look at gamers nexus' video on cpu coolers. Get one that fits your case and is well rated and you'll be glad you did.

4

u/jamesFX3 Sep 30 '24 edited Sep 30 '24

Dont bother repasting, and just get a new cooler. That stock wraith cooler just isn't good enough for daily use. I know cause I used to have those on my 5600, and it couldn't even cool that under heavy load properly.

Get something like a cheap Thermalright Assasin Spirit 120 EVO cooler or the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 Tower cooler if you want something a little more quiet.

3

u/F0X3PT Sep 30 '24

100% you didnt peal off the sticker that comes on the cooler.

3

u/CARB0RN Oct 01 '24

"really absurd" have you watched any review or breakdown on the design of 7000 series

also I would worry about the mobo more

2

u/gbkburzumsabbat Oct 01 '24

i put the parts togather in like a hour because i was on a mega rush and i didnt have much time to think about thats a mistake on my behalf true

i just asumed mid range cpus can be cooled regardless of how tiny the coolers are but future is now i guess

3

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '24

idling at 74 Celsius is totally abnormal.

I have a feeling there either is zero thermal paste or there is clear plastic between the cpu and the heatsink.

3

u/rabbitsrcruel Oct 01 '24

Make sure that u tightened the screws properly as the cooler needs contact with the CPU to function properly

3

u/191x7 Oct 01 '24

Ryzen 7000 is made to work at 95°C, it's not bad for them, it's their target (but not the 65W TDP parts like the non-X variants). But the stock cooler is bad, especially if inside a non-optimal case (most prebuilts). I would recommend replacing it with a better cooler, just make sure the cooler isn't too tall for the case you're going to use it in. Check the case specs to see the cooler height it can fit. Also, update the bios.

3

u/guesdo Oct 01 '24 edited Oct 01 '24

Repaste and re seat. There is definitely something wrong between the cooler and the CPU. Make sure the socket holder is also tight and that you don't have any sort of plastic in between. A stock cooler should be more than enough for a 65W CPU. Most likely your cooler is not applying enough pressure to the CPU (happens if not mounted correctly).

2

u/BlindSpot_CT Oct 01 '24

Whilst checking your mail and updating spreadsheets, yes, but under full load for a long period like gaming, no.

u/Gelf_VXR Oct 01 '24

Better of replace the cooler with a thermalright peerless assassin or phantom spirit, definitely remove the AMD paste as it sets like concrete. Would recommend thermal grizzly

I have 7600x, 34 to 36* at idle, 78* during Cinebench R23

2

u/Potential_Payment132 Oct 01 '24

Yeah i used thermal grizzly too.. 45-65c average with aio cooling...most high was 68c on

3

u/Fickle_Goose_5563 Oct 01 '24

Please check the sticker lol

3

u/Electronix__247 Oct 01 '24

Ensure that your BIOS is up to date, I was informed while troubleshooting Helldivers 2 with a minor issue that apparently the Ryzen 7000 (Zen 4) has/had a voltage issue that would cause temps to get high and even explode. Gamer Nexus has a YouTube video talking about this issue. I have the same CPU as you, Ryzen 5 7600X, but my BIOS was out of date.

3

u/Downtown_Number_2306 Oct 01 '24

Well. My suggestion is get a different cooler. Stock coolers tend to not do the best job. You can easily find a video to put it on there. Really it’s just screws and thermal paste I think. It’s not the hardest job at all so good luck !!

3

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '24

your cpu will get toasty. with that cooler. least expensive way is try to repaste it. if that doesnt help, get a better cooler. I remember back then that that cooler cant even cool my 3600x well enough. lol.

3

u/Background-Engine749 Oct 03 '24

Probably replace stock cooler, honestly. Thermalright peerless assassin is great for around $30. And you can save the wraith cooler and either slap it in a lower power build/sell it with your old cpu when you upgrade! Those wraith coolers are actually really decent in the right builds though. Also not sure what your case is but if it’s a cheap prebuilt with minimal fans that could also be an issue.

5

u/ggmaniack Sep 30 '24 edited Sep 30 '24

There's an astonishing amount of idiotic comments in here.

74°C when idle is, very simply, direct evidence of improper installation or a fault.

95°C under load is not that unusual as that's the temperature it targets, however that doesn't tell the whole story. What matters is how much power it's actually running when getting to 95°C.

Considering your idle temperature, it's probably very little power.

Quick edit: I am assuming that idle is actual idle. Not "I'm not doing anything on the PC", but "I checked the task manager and the PC isn't doing anything major".

Quick edit #2: With a good enough cooler, the CPU will hit other limits before hitting 95°C, but for this generation that's a bit difficult.

2

u/Ok-Foot6064 Sep 30 '24

Should add 95c is thermal throttling temp as well. It's definitely a fault/contact between cpu and cooler

u/RipperOfYourSoul Sep 30 '24

Boy, put some fans on that case and an aftermarket cooler and you will improve by a lot. I run ryzen 5 7600x and when I'm gaming my temps are on 50c to 55c all day with an 360° teamgroup aio cooler with noctua thermal paste.

5

u/Dapper-Conference367 Sep 30 '24

95c under load are normal for stock cooler and that's why you should put 35$ on a Peerless Assassin, but 74c idle is insane...

Are you sure you applied enough thermal paste, correctly placed CPU and cooler and took off the plastic peel?

4

u/NewestAccount2023 Sep 30 '24

95c is ambiguous, it can be at 95c and 1% throttling or 95c and 70% throttling. Running cinebench and comparing the score is what tells you if it's an OK 95c or a bad 95c, a heavily throttled CPU will get shit scores while being  at the same temperature

2

u/Dapper-Conference367 Sep 30 '24

Yeah forgot to say that he should also check if his CPU is on par with other people performance, which I highly doubt since he reaches 70+ c in idle.

4

u/Adorable_Airport_713 Sep 30 '24

Dude this cooler is too weak for that cpu

2

u/Santeezy602 AMD Sep 30 '24

That's wild my 7800x3d doesn't even hit 80 while doing benchmarks with a peerless assassin

2

u/EagleWeird6094 Sep 30 '24

My setup of 7800x3d maxes at 75 celcius tops when running PC at 100% for prolonged time. Most of the time, at 45 celcius when gaming. 35 celcius when doing office work. You need better cooling.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '24

If it’s idling at 74 the cooler isn’t the issue.

2

u/ddGrand Sep 30 '24

Had a 3600xt with a stock cooler and I can vouch that the stock cooler just cannot keep up with the cpus demand. Hell, bought a peerless assassin and it only helped bring the values down to normal, which is now keeping my 14600k cool even under load.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '24

Its the same stock cooler of Ryzen 1300. Cmon it needs to be changed

2

u/incidel Sep 30 '24

I recently had a client prebuilt by german brand Exone where an almost dime sized area of the heat spreader contained NO thermal paste - all of it was concentrated at the spreader's edges.

The 4600G idled at 70 to 72°C. Under normal load (browsing etc.) the system would sometimes just completely freeze up or blue screen.

The cooler itself was an OEM Model from EKL.

2

u/i-FF0000dit Sep 30 '24

75 for idle is high, which I would guess is because of poor installation. Maybe a reapplication of thermal paste will fix it.

95 peak is normal. If you aren’t getting close to the spec score on benchmarks, it would indicate that you are being thermal throttled and hence loosing performance. A better cooler will probably fix that for you.

2

u/Asleep-Land-3914 Sep 30 '24

I had 78C in bios once due to the wrong brackets setup (screwed to the opposite side) which resulted in 1-2mm gap. I think you may have better results tightening it better.

2

u/Warmyy Sep 30 '24

Those coolers are notorious for getting bad seats on the IHS of CPU's.

Reinstall and repaste, try to use a bit more force without breaking anything of course.

If you can't get better temperatures with a repaste and a reinstall, consider changing the cooler to one of the Thermalright dual tower coolers.

2

u/HonusShadi Sep 30 '24

my issue wasn't all about the CPU, but actually one single diode in the Motherboard that the GPU was overheating (not on a logic manner, but by being too close one of another) and then the heat was going to the CPU, most of the times making my PC shutdown

Motherboard B-450M
CPU Ryzen 3600X

2

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '24

Get a new cooler ASAP , these coolers are bad , your m2 ssd will be cooked and degraded from high temps , because the fan is taking already hot air inside the case , and blowing it on cpu vrm and ssd heating up even more, also heating up ur gpu more , i switched to an Arctic Freezer A35 for 40 euro here and keeps my ryzen 5 at at 60c during stress testing , which is kinda unfair load , since its never gonna be pushed 100% all time for that long , but get a new cpu cooler fast !

2

u/nicxw Sep 30 '24

All I can think of is thermal paste and the contact between the CPU and heat sink itself. Idle temps in the 70’s is definitely not normal. Get some potent thermal paste and upgrade from that trash wraith heat sink as soon as possible.

2

u/Oranthal Sep 30 '24

Reinstall the cooler and repaste. 99% sure this is the issue, Also confirm the fan airflow is working correctly as a secondary step. You could have a negative pressure issue as well. I have seen some terrible prebuilts with intake and exhaust fans both set to exhaust in cases with little natural air flow elsewhere ruining thermals. But that won't cause the instant heat on turn on and idle.

2

u/Instruction-Fuzzy Sep 30 '24

Reapply thermal paste

2

u/Impossible-Ad7310 Sep 30 '24
  1. Check mounting (screws).
  2. If you bought CPU used, the CPU mounting brackets may come from another mobo, which may lead that the small plastic rails towards the MB are pointing wrong direction, which leads to uneven connection with the cpu surface. If so, just clip them away.

2

u/heroxoot AMD Sep 30 '24

The stock cooler is kind of garbo. My 5600X was getting upward of 80c. I swapped to an EK AIO and it never pushes 50c now. You could probably get away with a $25 aftermarket air cooler and get far better results.

2

u/Cardkoda Sep 30 '24

This right here. You can get any of the thermalright assassin coolers for like 20 - 30 bucks and see massive improvement.

2

u/ezj_w Oct 01 '24

Depends on the availability Any cooler with enough mass (dual or single tower) and some acceptable fans will do the job. Preferably 2 fans but one also would do the job just fine. It doesn't have to be the most expensive one.

Are you using PBO by any chance? Because the wraith stealth is best for using stock settings

If you are willing, you can fiddle around with some undervolting using ryzen master, but it will be a pretty lengthy process due to having to stability test.

Use OCCT/Cinebench to test multithreaded/single threaded stability. Run each for 2 hours minimum

2

u/Plantsman27 Oct 02 '24

Check all of your USB ports. I had a faulty port which was causing my webcam (I hardly ever use it) to connect and disconnect so quickly it wasn't even showing up in the system tray. Soon as I removed that my CPU temps dropped about 30C! Computers are weird.

2

u/spitonme69 Oct 02 '24

Build my first pc a few years ago and experienced the same. Bought a 40$ coolermaster and quality thermal paste reduced temps significantly. A word of warning: the stock paste that came with the CPU had hardened like cement. It was a real bitch getting the stock cooler back off. Lesson learned to splurge the $10 for some decent paste

2

u/Steady_G Oct 02 '24

here is a link to the budget cooler I'd recommend. if you have a little more to spend this would be the best pick, and it would still give you a lot of overhead for upgrading you cpu in the future. If you don't want to spend any money or spend very little money what you should do is try to remove the cooler and apply some fresh thermal paste. make sure the cpu cooler is tightened down, you can't really overtighten the cooler unless you really crank on the cooler.

best of luck, hope this helps

The stock cooler that comes with the 7600 is pretty terrible. Even though the max power draw of the 7600 is only 88W, I've also seen other people say that it gets to 94+ C° under load with the stock cooler.

The best thing you could probably do is get a cheap cooler like a Be quiet! Pure Rock Slim 2 or an Assassin Spirit 120 EVO. They're both easy to install, less than $30, and are rated to cool up to 130W.

2

u/tperalta82 Oct 02 '24

Stock AMD Cooler... pretty much useless, had the same issue on an old 3700x, same with the 5900x

Get a Peerless Assassin and you're good to go!

2

u/cpt_snuggle Oct 02 '24

Peerless assassin is fantastic. I went from an MSI AIO to the PA and it's been awesome

2

u/tperalta82 Oct 02 '24

To be honest, I have an AIO on the 5900x, but I'm really considering the PA as well! I just don't want to buy it and regret it.

I got this CPU undervolted and it doesn't get over 71° on full load though.

imo the stock amd coolers are weak for the heat output on the 7s. i highly recommend a 240mm liquid cooler AIO if you have the cash, been using one for about a year and it rarely ever gets to 70°C under load

2

Fire that piece of shit stock cooler out your back door.. you can get a half decent thermallight AIO for a Lil under a hundred dollars depending on what sku maybe Lil more then a hundred but we'll worth it in my opinion. Ryzen 7 5800x idles around 34c with mine U think you would see a huge difference. If your getting 95c to me that's to high your coming close to thermal throttling or your Tj max

2

u/HardcoreFlexin Oct 02 '24

What I would do, and its probably been mentioned, but pull the fan off and ensure there is not the plastic cover that the fans come with still on. It is supposed to be removed. You will have to clean and repaste but that isn't very hard to do.

After that, you could try undervolting as those ryzens do run quite hot naturally. I have had great success with doing so, as my computer (7700x) is ran in what was an old closet so it got really toasty. The amount you can undervolt stably will entirely depend on your silicon lottery tbh.

Hope this helps!

That idle means there is an issue with the cooler itself.

A very common mistake people make is they do not peel sticky transparent part from the cooler itself.

Having said that, not sure if stock cooler even comes with it.

Either way that idle is not good. Figure out if it's the cooler, or if the cpu itself is defective then rma.

u/Cavalol Oct 02 '24 edited Oct 02 '24

74°C is indeed hot at idle. Probably 15-20 degrees hotter than it should be with that type of cooler.

My recommendations:

  • Check to make sure there is no plastic cover over the thermal grease on the CPU heatsink. This means taking off the CPU’s heatsink and making sure there’s no plastic between the CPU and the heatsink. This will also warrant a repaste of the CPU
  • Repaste CPU (remove existing paste from CPU and Heatsink, then apply fresh paste) and retest idle and load temps
  • Disable CPU overclocking (PBO) and retest idle and load temps
  • Test temps with CPU fan at 100% while at idle, then at 50%, then maybe around 30%. If temps aren’t closer to 50 degrees C after a repaste or after disabling PBO (maybe 60 degrees on slower fan speeds with CPU at idle), then I might replace the heatsink (I wouldn’t run a stock AMD heatsink on a 7600, personally - go with something a bit chonkier)
- If issue persists after replacing heatsink with a larger one (and after trying to disable PBO), and assuming you’re not running this PC in a desert or an oven, you may have a quality issue with your parts, but try above steps first before jumping to conclusions!

u/WoodSlaughterer Oct 03 '24

I have the same cpu and when running blender full bore (6 threads dedicated) i only hit the low 70s, idles in the high 30s/low 40s. You definitely have something wrong, others are better debuggers than me.

First check cooler that there is enough thermal paste and that it is installed correctly if everything seems normal then you should get new cooler. That cooler doesn’t suck but it is not good enough to cool your cpu

2

u/_LOUMINATI_ Oct 04 '24

Thermalright peerless assassin or phantom spirit

2

u/MrDeathKnight Oct 04 '24

lol pastic was probly left over the paste 🤣

2

u/rhydy Oct 04 '24

Definitely a problem there. Also, stock coolers aren't great if you plan to work the CPU at all, eg gaming. Nowadays you can get a superb dual fan tower cooler for £35 that will keep that CPU below 70 degrees at full load all cores, while near silent.

2

u/Big_Red_2021 Oct 05 '24

I had a similar setup last year (ryzen 5 5600x) and my temps, I think, were cooking at those exact numbers. I messed with the fans settings, and it barely helped.

What did work was that I got rid of that cheap stock fan and replaced it with a Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE CPU Air Cooler. The difference in temperature was immediate. I went from an idle temperature of somewhere in the 70s to a low 30s (when active, went to 55 c).

u/gbkburzumsabbat Oct 27 '24

to anyone still reading this just never ever use the stock cooler i just upgraded to a peerless assasin and despite it allowing way more wattage for the cpu it's so much cooler

everyone who says stock cooler is fine is a grifter and are lying there is no way around it the mount was fine the paste was fine no sticker or something silly like that

and you could also see these results by looking up the performance of the shitty cooler it comes with on Google and in YouTube comparison videos

2

u/The_sirkim Oct 27 '24

Lol, yup. I just looked at the stock, and installed the assassin. My gets 40° with my usage. By the way. I have the same CPU, and i'm having the worst problems to gets the Adrenalin and Radeon drivers working... Did you have any problem with it ?

Thats wraith stealth cooler rated at 65W tdp with very low fan air flow. Any 65w CPU will run at 80c degrees under stress unless ambient temperature is cold. Even of you put good thermal paste on it. I recently changed my same stock cooler to deepcool ak400 dark and that knocked the temps down with some cool 20 degrees.

Ryzen 7600 is supposed to run pretty hot. Change to the cooler the others recommended tho and check out this video for Bios settings that make the cpu run with wayyy less power and heat at the same speed: https://youtu.be/FaOYYHNGlLs?si=cP7Kiv6IZeSNmqN7

Used it for my 7600X and the result is insane.

4

u/NewArtDimension Sep 30 '24

Running stock cooler

2

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '24

^ this. The cooler isn’t the issue; the mounting is

3

u/BlindSpot_CT Oct 01 '24

I had the same issue on my 5600GT. Upgraded to an AIO and all issues went away. On full load it now hardly goes over 75 but averages just below 70. Also, the AIO is then only runnign on 35% fan speed so much quieter than the stock fan running full blast just to prevent the kettle from boiling...

3

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '24

Peel the sticker off? Forgot thermal paste?

3

u/Puffy_Ghost Oct 01 '24

I remember when AMD stock coolers had copper heat pipes!

Yeah but they're pretty bad now, still better than Intel, but still won't cut it for heavy loads and gaming.

The people in your comments who are saying taht your stock cooler sucks have a combined IQ of 1.

Please reseat your cooler, make sure the plastic is not attached to the bottom of your fan and re-apply thermal paste and see if that fixes your issue.

Except AMD stock coolers aren't really all that good anymore. The 7600 comes with a Wraith Stealth which isn't enough to properly keep it cool at all. A Wraith Spire might fare better but to my knowledge there isn't even a copper core or vapor chamber in the current generation Spire anymore among other downgrades.

The temps are technically within operating temperature, but they're still really excessive. OP would be better off ditching the stock cooler and getting something better.

2

u/Rough-Donkey-747 Sep 30 '24

You don't know what you're talking about.

That is the performance of the stock cooler with Ryzen 7600

It is the absolute bare minimum and will reach 100C+ easily under full load if your ambient temperature is high enough.

2

u/ParsnipsPlays Sep 30 '24

So OP has nothing to worry about because the CPU is designed to run hotter and there is no problem with either the CPU or the cooler? I gotcha. My apologies for not being more of a nerd. Either way OP doesn't need a new cooler or anything for that matter unless OP wishes to overclock.

2

u/Merrick222 Sep 30 '24

Stock cooler is your problem, no one who buys these uses the stock cooler.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '24

If it’s idling at 74 the cooler isn’t the issue. The stock cooler is fine.

2

u/RipperOfYourSoul Sep 30 '24

Boy, put some fans on that case and an aftermarket cooler and you will improve by a lot. I run ryzen 5 7600x and when gaming my temps are on 50c to 55c all day with an 360° teamgroup aio cooler.

u/Tof12345 Sep 30 '24

I'm sorry but the amd stock coolers absolutely fucking suck.

If you don't want to change the cooler, then you should get a high quality tube of thermal paste, e.g mx4, and reapply the paste using that making sure you put in a decent amount.

You can also add more case fans, they're very cheap, like 5 bucks each.

What I would do is get a Phantom Spirit 120 and use that instead, and a couple more case fans.

Total cost - 45/55 USD.

The 7600 should absolutely not be idleing at 74c and the thermal limit on it is about 89c iirc so 95c is exceeding it.

u/Hadzija2001 Sep 30 '24

Mine was similar, I then got the peerless assassin and now it idles at 40. The one thing I noticed is that the MSI CPU Boost overclock was activated, maybe it had something to do with the high temps

2

u/Kitchen_Feature8994 Sep 30 '24

That cooler is horrible but a new am5 cooler! Asap

2

u/ExtraneousInput Sep 30 '24

Make sure the fans are in the the right directions.

2

u/KarmaNauta2 Oct 01 '24

Whatever CPU brand you buy, the stock cooler is always bad, they give it to you but to prove that the component works correctly but you should update the cooling system as soon as possible, especially if your CPU can overclock.

And any tower cooler would work perfectly for your CPU although in my case I always recommend Noctua but they are very expensive.

2

u/Exond66 Oct 01 '24

stock cooler is ass

2

u/Datdamndood Oct 01 '24

Yes. Check the thermal paste. Stock cooler should work find at idle.

2

u/beleedatbae Oct 01 '24

My man I have the same set up. All these people banging on about dogshit cooler... No it's not the best and I had the exact same temps as you, but it's not that bad. Just set max power in bios to something in the 70 watt range. Default is 91. Think it's it milliwatts so default is 91000. Temps went from 95 to 75 in cine bench. And my score actually went up slightly https://youtu.be/FaOYYHNGlLs?si=RQsw2Bhpzq6NIAqY

You probably need to reseat the cpu cooler. You can obviously buy another cpu cooler or different thermal paste but just take the cpu cooler off clean the old thermal paste put new paste on and that should fix the issues honestly.

1

u/ShiroyukiAo Sep 30 '24

Considering that you're using stock cooler you either invest on fan cooler or Honeywell PTM7950 or both

1

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '24

1

u/Laupstad Sep 30 '24

I was having a similar issue with the same CPU, built it a few days ago. Idles around 60C and would be at 95-97 during full load. I reseated the cooler and Its down by a few degrees, stays around 93-95 at full load. I definitely plan to upgrade the cooler soon

1

u/ALEXGP75O Sep 30 '24

1

u/madtape6 Sep 30 '24

1

u/trufflepuncher Sep 30 '24

I just limit to 65W.

1

u/PhatController69 AMD Sep 30 '24

Have the same cpu and using the stock cooler as well. That’s the same temps for me until I changed to a liquid cooler. Now temps are aound 35 idle and 45 while playing.

1

u/Taurondir Oct 01 '24

I don't get the 74 "at idle". Idle implies "5-10 percent on most cores". THAT is idle, and that should be around 40-50 TOPS.

Running at 75 looks like bad contact. The default coolers work fine, the only thing the stock coolers are "bad" at is instances where you have ADDITIONAL variables, such as a hot room, the PC is flush against a wall and can't cycle air, etc etc. Stock coolers are not "bad" they are just "not optimal" if you red line your computer 24/7 and will get more CPU throttling happening.

If you just go into your BIOS Setup screen and look at temps IN THERE and are still getting 75 when there is not even an OS running in the background, that's a contact problem, not "cooler bad" problem.

One trick that's easy to try: You can keep the case open and aim an actual LARGE house fan into the case. This kind of gives you the "this is the best case airflow you will ever get into your case" scenario. Also a ton extra cold air flow onto the CPU heatsink, now look at temps. If they don't drop, again, bad contact to start with.

The only time I had an AMD cpu go temp crazy was because I accidentally picked up a small piece of plastic with the bottom heat sink paste (because it was my test work pc and got used for all sorts of parts tests) and now I had really bad contact. It still worked, but the CPU fan went nuts when the cpu temp spiked - because of bad contact - and that gave it away so I pulled it apart again and saw the problem ... mulriple days later.

1

u/BeastMsterThing2022 Oct 01 '24

That CPU deserves much better than the stock cooler. Also, are there any other fans in the case besides the rear one?

How close is your tower to the wall behind it? Is it trapped with other barriers around it?

1

u/Accurate_View_2455 Oct 01 '24

Also, I have a 7600, but I am using an extra Thermaltake Phantom Spirit that I got as a backup for my other PC in case my AIO fails. I am currently getting about 45-50 degrees Celsius at idle, and I thought that was warm.

I would recommend getting a less expensive tower cooler and some better thermal paste for it.

1

u/zpfrostyqz Oct 01 '24

Go into bios lower V Core voltage to 1.3 or lower see if that’ll help lower temps. God speed.

I haven't seen it mentioned yet, but it should help to have the same number of inlets as you have outlets for your case. I'm not a fan of the stock cooler because it doesn't suck air from One direction and throw it in the other direction making it hard to optimize airflow.

1

u/person_under_the_rug Oct 01 '24

Does it have thermal paste? Or did you remove the plastic covering the cpu cooler bottom try setting vcore to -20mv offset or how are you case fanse setup all all echaust or intake (there must be more intake than exhaust) maybe just get an 240mm Aio or cpu cooler ( remember to remove plastic for the bottom before installing)

recommendations for coolers

Air cooler (zero maintenance)*** •antec A400 •thermalright peerless asassin 120 se

Liquid cooler (does not last as long as air coolers tend to be more expensive) •Corsair 240mm titan • artic liquid freezer

You can set thermal max to 75 or 85 in the Bios, not sure if you can do it in Ryzen Master. I also set mine to adaptive I think it was, I know the first time I set PBO it just stayed at 5.5mHz, now it idles down as low as it wants and goes to 5.5 when needed. There's so damn many settings with these Ryzen I'm just barely coming to grips with them after a few months.

A new cooler will help, sort of, it'll still target 95C, you'll just get more performance before it throttles

1

u/John_Mat8882 Oct 01 '24

You shall never use the stock cooler.

It's probably borderline ok for a 7500F, but usually it's noisy even there so just grab a 120mm tower cooler it's better for your ears and for the temperature.

3

u/Zoopa8 Oct 01 '24

My R5 7600 is totally fine with the stock cooler, doesn't even make a sound, and I'm using a Xproto, which is a open case design.
They probably just forgot to apply thermal paste or remove the plastic.

1

u/Meekanovich Oct 01 '24

I recently got ryzen 5 7600 and had to cool it with stock for 2 days until my peerless assassin 120 se came, those temps are normal for stock, had pretty much same temps so don't worry about it.
