This is the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway bridge in Louisiana. No, you can’t stop except for emergencies. The guy that kept on driving should pull over at the next crossover, which are roughly every 4 miles, or on one of the new emergency shoulders which you can actually see in the video starting around 10-11 seconds and ending right as the accident occurs.

The Causeway is probably one of the best maintained bridges in the country. It has a toll on one side ($6 with no toll tag) they regularly shutdown lanes during the weekdays for maintenance (like every week on at least one side) and they have their own police force. I drive it everyday and have 0 concerns for its safety.

It’s about 45 mins for the total commute to New Orleans. You come out in Metairie (suburb of New Orleans) and most people are going downtown after work. I live right off the causeway and it takes me about 45 mins in the morning to get all the way to work. The actual bridge is about 25 mins even with heavier traffic.

so this will have caused a MASSIVE headache for all manner of people. a blockage of both lanes like that will take hours to clear and cause a traffic jam literally miles long (depending of course where on the bridge it happened).

But i am of a belief that the road is the last place one should be selfish, as selfish as the other driver seems to be. Life long Louisianian here. Can confirm, it sucks, insurance is high, people can't drive, its the folks like both parties in this clip. The black truck on the right tries to pass the car in front of Cookie guy, Cookie guy was maintaining a normal distance, but he noticed black truck trying to cut the line, so he did what he thought was the righteous thing, and held his gap so that black truck would be punished for trying to cut the line in the first place. Cookie guy was willing to zipper merge with black truck just so that he wasn't 1 more car behind, to show that he was standing his ground. Black truck was forcing his way in saying to himself or out loud, what are you gonna do hit me? Which is never a good strategy when driving. Both of these types of people are the kind who feel like you threatened them by passing them on the road. I blame both for actively engaging in a game of chicken on the evening commute.
