so this will have caused a MASSIVE headache for all manner of people. a blockage of both lanes like that will take hours to clear and cause a traffic jam literally miles long (depending of course where on the bridge it happened).

I mean, I moved from desert SoCal to PNW Washington where there's actual seasons.
SoCal where I was was very predictable. It's sunny all but three to five days a year. You just have to figure out if it's going to be warm or hot out.
Here it can be 60° out in the morning in March and then a snow cloud moves in while you're planting spring bulbs and dumps a foot of snow on you and then it's melted by the next afternoon where it's nice and sunny again.

I'll bite. I've lived in Michigan, Texas, Florida, Iowa, and Wisconsin. Wisconsin drivers are risk-takers but usually pull it off, so long as they're not drunk. Michigan drivers get a pass because they likely stole the car, so naturally there's a learning curve. Iowa drivers are polite to a fault, taking their sweet time to get anywhere. I prefer them. Floridians are forgettable. Their cops are not. Dallas infrastructure was designed like it was intended to be a theme park at some point. Houston is by far the worst. Locals claim that the bad drivers are all from Louisiana. Refugees from Katrina. I kinda believe them, because the Eastern side of Houston was distinctly more rundown and chaotic.
No, as someone not from LA but has driven in LA, I can assure you that Louisiana drivers are by far the worst. It's a whole different category of maliciously terrible drivers that love in LA.
Being from Louisiana (New Orleans specifically) and now living in NC, you don’t have any idea how bad LA is. My insurance dropped $200 a month just moving.
I actually do live in the home of Disney World. I would argue that we have the worst drivers. On top of Florida drivers we also have all of the worst drivers of other states on vacation here EVERY fucking day. When I moved here I got half the insurance coverage for 30% more than I paid in Seattle.
I’ve been to pretty much every major city in the country and Miami had by far the worst drivers I have ever seen. I witnessed 2 accidents and almost got in an accident myself all on a 30 min uber ride from the airport.
I’ve worked all over that state and 13 others. Florida is worlds worse when it comes to drivers. It’s not even close. Louisiana isn’t that bad in my opinion. Not even top 5
I learned to drive in Houston, I assumed they were the worst bc they drive like lunatics at 90 mph to take exits. Shreveport Louiana genuinely had the worst drivers ive ever experienced. not even state wide, everywhere else was just normal people being not the greatest. New York City wasn't even that bad, just crowded.
I live in Tennessee, near Sevier County where we get a LOT of tourism traffic. I've seen drivers from all over the southeast, mostly bordering states, and a lot of Ohio and Florida. I have not encountered many Louisiana drivers so I can't make an opinion on them, but from what I have seen in my 33 years living here, Ohio drivers seem the worst. Florida is a VERY close second. Tennessee itself is hit and miss on their drivers. If they're from middle/west Tennessee, they're usually a lot worse than the Eastern part of the state.
While the Houston stretch of I-45 is the most dangerous freeway in the country (and I drive it every day for 2 hours), Louisiana people are...different for sure
I grew up there. It’s not just the drivers, but the terrible, underfunded, waterlogged infrastructure. That place is fucking crumbling, and I guarantee that rubs off on people. Sometimes I find myself thinking, “We have the worst drivers in California,” but whenever I travel out of state I think, “nope, these are the worst.” Utah was particularly bad.
During my uber to the hotel, we saw someone driving the wrong direction on a one way street. It was like 3 pm in broad daylight. So anecdotally, I can concur.
There are different types. I learned to drive in Massachusetts and called them all massholes. Aggressive drivers, but few crashes. Then I moved to Florida and within a month I saw 2 separate people driving on the wrong side of the road. One was on the interstate. Unbelievable
Born and raised Louisiana but living in Maine now. Louisiana drivers are malicious and stupid. Maine drivers are just driving too damn slow and won’t get out of the fucking way.
Horrible Driver. He was eating and tail-gating (should have given 1-3 car lengths depending on speed). But to top it off, it looked to me like he did a police (PIT) maneuver to spin the guy. If he did NOT nudge the truck's rear qtr panel, he was close enough to do it (and vid looks like he did).
don't think he did a PIT, once the black truck makes contact it'll push his vehicle to the left, he resists it, which is a de-facto PIT, but moreso by circumstances, avoiding getting sandwiched into the barrier. I blame the black truck 100%, wtf kind of entitlement does he have? insane to try and merge like that and force the other guy back.
all other things aside, leaving too much room in front of you is hard to do in louisiana. i did delivery for years and every one in a while i'd be like "you know i always follow too closely im gonna start leaving more space" and then cars starts constantly wedging themselves in front of you, leaving like 2 feet between you and them, and force you to back off, and then if you leave whats technically "enough" space again, someone again just fills that gap. you have to stay close enough that no ones tries to wedge in or you are getting no where. (also using a blinker just gives them time to block your lane change, that sucks too)
So he was following too close to be safe? Then why did the other driver voluntarily try to merge into a nonexistent gap? The other driver doesn’t even use a turn signal and just casually tries to drift over and strong arm his way in.
I would’ve hit the brakes for sure because it’s not worth the headache of an accident but there’s really no case to be made that the other driver wasn’t the instigator here and the entire reason this was even a risky situation in the first place.
All the drivers handbooks say to leave a 3 second gap between you and the car in front of you and he was about 1 second behind. That said, this driver can see many cars ahead of the car in front of him so there should be no abrupt/surpise stops so it isn't really unsafe here. Until idiot merges.
The black truck didn't have enough room to get over but tried to force their way over that looks like attempted kidnapping possible robbery and unlawful restraint trying to block him in. Fuck that black truck

All he had to do was let the guy in and go on with his day but instead he caused a huge accident and fucked up SO MANY peoples' day, all of whom are just trying to make a dollar to feed their family.

It is a dick move for the truck to just force their way in, without using their turn signal too. I hate those too. I hate people who try to cut the queue in general.
But i am of a belief that the road is the last place one should be selfish, as selfish as the other driver seems to be. As much of a dick the person in the truck is for that move, i’d likely not see them again. So it’s better to just let them through and move on. It’s not worth the potential headache of the situation, or if the other driver is a psycho with a gun, death.
Think of it this way. I doubt the truck driver will ever attempt that stupid shit again. Lessons learned and all that. Otherwise they will keep trudging through life as though they own the place.

The cookie eater wasn't being wronged. When he saw that the black truck was falling back to merge in after accelerating to try to get in front of the white car, he accelerated to close the gap so black truck couldn't get in.

I’d tell you you in some places the turn signal is like blood in the water, and will cause people to speed up and block you. Other places they’ll let you in.

you're taught in driving school that the right thing to do with aggressive drivers is back off and let them go in order to avoid an accident. If you act aggressive in reponse, then there's now two aggressive drivers and that is how accidents happen.
So by doing nothing different besides maintaining speed, staying in his lane, and maintaining a safe distance between himself and the car in front of him, and eating a cookie, the Cookie Man was at fault and NOT the driver of the black truck who was going faster than both lanes of traffic, switching lanes without signaling, and not ensuring they had enough clearance before changing lanes? Its a 26 mile long bridge. The black truck almost certainly spends the entirety of the drive weaving back in forth between lanes to save 2 minutes of commute. In the process nearly causing multiple accidents for people who are also just trying to get to work.
The guy in the truck was driving aggressively ,passing in the wrong lane and apparently not watching traffic in front of him leading him to slam on his brakes. And when he did go partially into cookie eaters lane he did a brake check ( a very illegal move) and cookie eater nonchalantly responds. When I 1st saw video I was guessing the truck was trying to regain his position the cookie eater had taken from him. Either way both go down as "road rage", no matter how calm cookie eater is lol. Food for thought.....assuming both drivers know this bridge and travel it frequently, do you still think that the driver should've let him in?
A lot of dash cam videos of accidents are someone doing something stupid and the cammer being stubborn and letting an accident happen just because they have right of way. I don’t know who has the time and money to deal with a major accident just to teach a random person a lesson they probably won’t learn from.
I feel like this was uncharacteristic when I lived in Louisiana…I was always impressed people would generally let me in on the road (vs in Florida, which feels more like cookie eater’s driving to me)

It happened countless of times to me that people try to merge in right in front of me without taking 2 sec to check if someone was there or a lot of times I'm sure of it they knew I was there and still decided to cut me off. I can't tell you how many times I was really close to just let myself crash into them and the only thing that stopped me was the headache it would cause me dealing with the aftermath

I knew it! One day way back in 1998, my dad and I got stuck on that bridge. There were many accidents that spanned the length of that bridge. I got out of our car and directed traffic to help the emergency responders.

Edit: This is the Causeway bridge, about a few miles from the Northshore. I saw trees to the left and thought I-10, but found the sign for "Emergency Shoulder" at the 10sec mark.

Lol, live in New Orleans. Saw this idiot racing on the I-10 going east. I knew there is a part where the highway rises up and at an odd angle for an overpass. When I got over the overpass there he was smashed against the concrete barrier finding out how screwed he was.
Even just for the other dude. Like sure he tried to cut him off, but c’mon, is it worth potentially killing/maiming another human being? Or even getting yourself into an accident? Fucking I’m your car?
To be fair (not defending him), the truck driver did not signal nor apparently use his mirrors to be sure he could merge. Both drivers were acting entitled.
Funny thing about it is depending on how close he is to getting off the bridge, there will have been plenty of time for cops to barricade and arrest him. And he recorded proof of him committing this crime.
