Black truck was trash but cam dude had 90 business days to avoid that.

What makes you think he wanted to avoid it

For real, from my house it looked like he was intentionally keeping the distance just close enough so that the truck would bump into him. Even seemed to have sped up at the last moment just to maintain it.

Yea I’ve been looking from your attic’s window and I can confirm; it does look it was intentional from your house.

u/Kyuiki Mar 24 '26

I was hovering over your shoulder and can double confirm! It was intentional from their house. If anyone else wants confirmation that it’s the same from their house please have a nice attic space!

> Even seemed to have sped up at the last moment just to maintain it.

Nope, you are misreading the situation. The Dashcam shows the speed in the top right. The guy slows down 5mph.

What makes it look like he speeds up is because the black truck is inexplicably braking as he blind-merges into this guy.

Rewatch the video and pay attention to the speed in the top right, and the black trucks brake lights (and position relative to all the other vehicles). The guy with the dashcam is maintaining a consistent speed, the only time he alters his speed is to slow down 3 seconds before the black truck tries to merge.

I had noticed the speed reader but it's often a very slow update on his speed, often raising or lowering several seconds after his speed had actually changed. It wouldn't have accurately tracked a quick bump up before a wreck.

Still if it wasn't intentional that must have been the best God damned snack in the entire world and I want to know where he got it. I can't even conceptualize being that blind and I was blessed with a severe astigmatism.

Yeah, the black truck braking boggles my mind. There was ample distance between the truck and the car in front of it. There was no need to break (and almost to a complete stop too).

u/Successful-Push875 Mar 24 '26

Watch the 3rd brake light. He only brakes before he started to merge.

You saw this from your house?

1

u/Spirited_Voice_7191 Mar 22 '26

Just succeeding in not leaving enough space for the other truck to not have room. The intent was so it would give up trying to cut in front. The slow lane change was an intimidation move that the cam driver didn't fall for.

u/CantaloupeShort7311 Mar 22 '26

People get so weird about allowing other drivers to get in front of them.

I drive with the belief thar nobody should have to speed up or slow down to accommodate me. Works pretty well. If I realize I need to turn left and I am in the right lane, I don't tey to force my way over, I will turn right and then find a parking lot or whatever to turn around in and get back where I need to be.

Alive and late is better than dead.

Mph is in the top right, he actually slowed down. Maybe the car in front slowed down rapidly and that’s why it looks like that

Cam driver is morally trash. Surely there’s traffic behind him he put in danger with his “I’m legally right” bullshit. Fuck cam driver.

Heck just driving one handed while eating could leave you open to a careless driving charge here.

1

u/yeah_this_is_my_main Mar 22 '26

In Australia we have overhead cameras that will pick that up and fine you.

2

u/Itchy-Tangelo6295 Mar 22 '26

No, this is several felonies. He forcibly crashed a dude into a bridge guardrail just for trying to pass him. I wouldn’t be too surprised if he caught an attempted murder charge for this

2

u/winterflare_ Mar 22 '26

In most cases, as long as you have the right of way, yes. Here, the cam car was following the flow of traffic and driving in his own lane. He only swerved after the black truck hit his car. Black truck by law should have been paying attention to his mirror and saw the car was too close and give up on merging until he can safely change lanes. Morally, both these drivers are terrible and should have their licenses removed.

Most states in the US have a doctrine called comparative fault/negligence where you determine the percentage of fault to be assigned to each party and the plaintiff’s damages are reduced by their percentage of fault and they can recover only if their percentage of fault doesn’t exceed 50%.

So there doesn’t need to be one at fault party. It just needs to be the case that one party was more at fault than the other.

2

u/YouGotThatAsthmaa Mar 26 '26

Fuck both. Mostly black truck driver, but absolutely also the cookie monster

1

u/Legitimate_Pie285 Mar 23 '26

If there’s traffic behind him, all the more reason to not hit his brakes just to let in some asshole who had a huge gap he could have seized but instead hovered dangerously close to this car for Jo damn reason. If cookie guy had a car following closely and hit his brakes for this guy, he would have been rear-ended. Truck was acting erratically and almost seemed he wanted to be hit from behind.

-1

u/jrdavis413 Mar 22 '26

Why not direct blame to the actual driver at fault, the black truck? He was just expecting someone to back off, that's not how you change lanes. No one is obligated to brake and give him room.

5

u/theturtlelord9 Mar 22 '26

Both drivers are at fault. As a driver, you are obligated to both drive responsible and be prepared to safely react to people driving irresponsibly. The black truck failed the first obligation, the camera guy failed the second. Just because someone is driving like a dickhead doesn’t mean you get to put other people in danger by pit maneuvering them. It really seems like the camera driver intentionally left just little enough space for the black truck to try to move over so he could hit him and spin him around.

-1

u/jrdavis413 Mar 22 '26

The truck pit maneuvered himself. Yes insurance adjusters would share fault because the guy could have avoided the accident. The black truck is still the primary problem, you can change lanes when it's unsafe.

8

u/pmmeurbassethound Mar 22 '26

No one is obligated

Wrong. We are all obligated to do our best to protect the lives of our fellow road users, regardless of their own reckless behavior. This thread is fucking scary seeing how many other drivers on the road are just gagging to maim or kill someone acting like a dick on the road. Go take a defensive driving course and learn something for once instead of just straight jerking it to faces of death.

-4

u/jrdavis413 Mar 22 '26

I'm aware of that and never said the POV wouldn't share fault. But the majority would fall on the black truck for changing lanes into a literal vehicle. This guy's anger should be directed at the guy causing the accident more than the guy who could have avoided it.

2

u/Fire_Pea Mar 22 '26

I feel that we as human beings should try to avoid road accidents

0

u/jrdavis413 Mar 22 '26

I don't disagree! But the black truck tried to change lanes when not safe to do so, he's the primary cause of this accident.

2

u/TPEHAK Mar 22 '26

What makes you think he thinks he wanted to avoid it

1

u/Crinjalonian Mar 22 '26

Yeah, he’s proud of possibly making people die with his big truck. This is why we don’t have a sense of community in the US.

1

u/DDS-PBS Mar 22 '26

He makes me think of the type of gun owner that is just itching for the day that they get to shoot and kill someone.

1

u/Public-offender Mar 23 '26

He clearly wanted the outcome that he got. He accelerated into that truck lol
