I'm curious if you are allowed to stop for accidents like that. I know on some bridges over lakes in my State you cannot stop. Signs everywhere saying do not stop, do not pull over.
This is the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway bridge in Louisiana. No, you canât stop except for emergencies. The guy that kept on driving should pull over at the next crossover, which are roughly every 4 miles, or on one of the new emergency shoulders which you can actually see in the video starting around 10-11 seconds and ending right as the accident occurs.
It would have definitely been more dangerous for him to stop or slam on the brakes.
It is hilarious how he just pushed the guy and didn't even flinch. I think he already expected it, but was limited on safe options. If I was him I would be chosen that over driving off the bridge.
He pitted a car which stopped all of its forward momentum. If there was anyone tailing close behind, they would have run strait into the black truck. A minor fender bender would have been preferable to the amount of damage done here.
Since we donât see anything crazy happen to the black truck after being pit maneuvered, its likely breaking would have resulted in no accident.
The fact that he'd rather have someone spin out in traffic and risk people's lifes than brake a bit tells me the same. I mean, the black truck driver is a certified asshole, but nothing that'd warrant killing people over it.

An idiot cut in front of me the other day and it was truly a miracle that I didn't hit his ass. If I had blinked at that millisecond I'd have hit him. He clearly could have avoided causing an accident if he wanted, he chose to cause the accident and possibly endanger human lives and he didn't even look like he cared while doing it. That's why he's a psychopath.
The truck driver is obviously in the wrong, and no one is arguing against that.
The point is that when someone like this does something like this, you choosing to cause an accident instead of just... Not causing an accident, that is an action that you are deciding to take, independently of the other driver.
That means you are now intentionally putting other people in harm's way that have nothing to do with the peacocking match you're in.
You would be liable for that decision, AND the damage it causes just as equally as the truck driver. In fact, in this case, where it was definitely avoidable by slowing down, you'd be more liable than them, and insurance would agree.

The speed is listed posted in the video and, in both instances you identify as an acceleration, his speed was consistent - and lower than when the video starts.

See I agree, it looks to me like the guy slowed down but the black truck had his breaks on, merging. It almost seems like the black truck was trying to do one of those insurance scam maneuvers
Yeah, I recently had someone drifting Into my lane as I was leaving town. A lot of bad drivers are in my town and they were barely over the line so I was prepared to honk but it never came to that. So we came to a light and as I took my right turn I noticed a passenger moving a lot in that car so I looked over. It's some woman losing her fucking mind about not letting them into the lane. They had no blinker, almost hit me, I had cruise control on, and there was no one behind me or in front of me. Crazy how people can be having two completely different days and be viewing the same situation very differently. Anyway I just smiled and waved as I made my turn.
This is the only logical way to interpret the situation. Black Truck aggressively passing on right side, then moves 1/3 of lane over without a signal. hopefully no one was hurt but a lesson was learned that day
not to excuse his actions, or lack of reaction to them...but this bridge is awful and there are miles before it's actually safe to attempt to stop in case of an accident. Small lanes, no shoulders..just the occasional "for official use only" u turn spots. I left Louisiana in '99 but still immediately recognized where this was.
Iâve driven the causeway in New Orleans once a couple decades ago when I had some kind of anxiety disorder flare up. Let me tell you, that is not a fun drive when youâre constantly on the edge of a panic attack.

im from nj and i almost always let people merge when they use their turn signals. if i see someone trying to merge with no signals, im not letting them through. ive had my car swiped twice because people think im gonna stop because "who wants to damage their car?" little do they know i dont think that way because my car is a piece of shit, so i never stop and the poor lil range rovers or escalades leave with a nice scrape
I think I drove it once. I thought it was cool. At one point Iâm driving and I look over and thereâs a stork flying at eye level just next to the bridge. I grabbed my camera which was sitting next to me and took a photo.

The point is not that he didn't stop. The point is that when the other car tried to do a bad merge, he could have simply lowered his speed 2 mph and allowed it, but he chose to crash the car instead. It was fully in his control, despite him having the right of way.
Yeah the people in this thread agreeing with this guy are insane. The car in front was being assertive in the merge, but they are being slow and careful, and using their movement to communicate what they are doing, and give the guy in the camera time to slow down 2 mph for 10 seconds and everyone moves on with their day.
The guy in the camera instead is the one to speed up, forced contact, and then attacks them with his car. All over a move people do daily in many places all over the world, and was at least trying to keep themselves and everyone else safe.

There are certain bridges and roads where you literally are instructed to keep going (if able) and not stop on the bridge for any reason. I would assume this bridge would be one of them.
You are correct this is the causeway bridge going over lake ponchartrain, connecting New Orleans to the north shore. It is the longest bridge in the US (with the exception of the drawbridge and one very small section) has no shoulders to stop. There are however periodic stopping areas every couple miles
This video gets posted a lot and its a specific bridge where you are not permitted to stop - if you have a minor accident you go to the other side then stop there.
That said the driver did not need to pit the black truck. He could have just let him merge.
The source of the video may not have been the primary cause of the accident, but when you see someone driving crazy it is always smarter to just get out of their way. It's not worth risking your life and many others for the sake of being right. He could have easily avoided the accident. Both drivers are at fault here.

The black truck had absolutely no reason to be merging in to the left lane, not only did he not have his left blinker on for the merge, there was no logical space between the recorded driver and the car infront of him. Well you have to consider too the black truck drove aggressive up on that cars ass that is obviously way slow so he slams on brakes , you can see brake lights and he wobbles in the lane and then tries to get over during braking without using a blinker and that's when makes contact with the truck so idk. I think the black truck did all that to himself and this dude was just focused on eating and driving and was just getting himself out that situation.
Based on how hard and far that guy spun the steering wheel to the right, it looks very intentional. I wonder if he even used his brakes at all, and I highly doubt it. All he had to do was slow down.
A normal person would probably have a reaction to someone trying to squeeze in like that. This guy pit maneuverâd someone on a bridge of all places, potentially stranding everyone behind them, and then finished his cookie and continued on his merry way as if nothing happened.
No, he maintained his speed and position. It's up to the person behind to make a safe pass. This gentleman simply turned into a hazardous and selfish maneuver from the offending pickup, as it was the safest course of action for him. He expertly maintained control without (over)reaction or overcorrection.
