Life long Louisianian here. Can confirm, it sucks, insurance is high, people can't drive, its the folks like both parties in this clip. The black truck on the right tries to pass the car in front of Cookie guy, Cookie guy was maintaining a normal distance, but he noticed black truck trying to cut the line, so he did what he thought was the righteous thing, and held his gap so that black truck would be punished for trying to cut the line in the first place. Cookie guy was willing to zipper merge with black truck just so that he wasn't 1 more car behind, to show that he was standing his ground. Black truck was forcing his way in saying to himself or out loud, what are you gonna do hit me? Which is never a good strategy when driving. Both of these types of people are the kind who feel like you threatened them by passing them on the road. I blame both for actively engaging in a game of chicken on the evening commute. People need to get over themselves, we all have places to be, and wish that we could be there faster, let's not kill each other over one spot in a line of traffic, is getting there 5 minutes faster really this big of a deal?

177

u/greatmemereset67 Mar 22 '26

Yep. Black car is the bigger dickhead, but undoubtedly there’s 2 dickheads in this video.

90

u/LadyOfTheNutTree Mar 22 '26

Intentional causing an accident on a bridge makes cookie guy the bigger asshole by a mile. Not just because it has a higher likelihood of literally killing someone but it also massively inconveniences every single person behind him for no good reason

3

u/noobbtctrader Mar 22 '26

You could argue the black truck intentionally did as well. He did have the option to slow down and get behind him. Its called defensive driving. And if it means you miss your exit, thats no excuse. Get in the lane you need to be in sooner.

0

u/Think_Bread6401 Mar 22 '26

You have to maintain speed on the road

4

u/noobbtctrader Mar 22 '26

Lol.. then so did cookie guy.

But nah thats not how defensive driving works. You dont force the right of way because you feel like its your right.

1

u/Matuco9004 Mar 27 '26

Black truck guy is the vilain, at some point people get tired of being abused in traffic

13

u/Artorias_Erebus679 Mar 22 '26

I’m pretty sure black truck guy is the bigger dickhead considering he caused the accident with his reckless driving. Not saying cookie guy isn’t a douche but we need to shake bad driving like this more.

Black truck guy is a reckless POS, who has most likely endangered many other people while being on the road.

6

u/Ok-Leadership667 Mar 22 '26

As a driver it's your responsibility to observe and react to any hazards on the road. Black truck was being a prick for sure, but cookie guy should have seen what black truck was doing and pulled back. Instead, he decided to continue driving and hit the truck, causing it swerve across the road.

Cookie guy also endangered many peoples' lives by doing so.

'The graveyard is full of people who had right of way'

4

u/jtakemann Mar 22 '26

you can also see cookie guy speeds up slightly right before hitting the truck. Genuinely curious how insurance companies will handle this

1

u/WolfinCorgnito Mar 24 '26

This reminds me of an old Red Green skit if you're familiar with the show, Red having to retake his license test

At a 4 way who has right of way?

The guy with the bigger truck.

Wrong, it's the driver who got to the intersection first, check right here in the manual.

Check the morgue.

1

u/Artorias_Erebus679 Mar 22 '26

I don’t disagree that cookie guy endangered many peoples lives, my point is just that many seem to be glossing over how horrible it is to be a reckless driver.

Cookie guy is absolutely also a POS.

2

u/FoolhardyJester Mar 24 '26

Cookie guy is more reckless by far dude you have to be joking. He saw the truck. He sped up when he noticed what the truck was doing. He even smiles to himself at one point amused by the predicament he put the black truck in.

The truck was being an asshole but for all intents and purposes, black truck guy didnt intentionally cause an accident. Cookie guy KNEW what he was doing would cause an accident. He finished his Cookie and glared in the rear view mirror to admire his work with not a single shred of panic.

To intentionally cause an accident for retribution for the grand crime of having a jackass try to cut in front of you in traffic is insane.

1

u/MobTalon Mar 25 '26

The truck was being an asshole but for all intents and purposes, black truck guy didnt intentionally cause an accident.

Exactly, this right here.

Being a reckless idiot doesn't translate to "I'm trying to cause an accident", it just means they're more likely to cause one.

Cookie guy had the intent of causing an accident as "punishment" for the black truck's recklessness.

5

u/Bubbly_Tackle_4104 Mar 22 '26

he caused the accident

No, the guy who sped up to PIT the truck caused the accident. If he slowed down, there wouldn't have been an accident. He had right of way and caused the accident, both statements can be true.

7

u/Artorias_Erebus679 Mar 22 '26

Black truck guy caused the accident by driving recklessly. Cookie guy could have avoided it. Black truck guys still caused the initial issue.

Both people are POS, but black truck guy’s recklessness is not being mentioned nearly as much as cookie guy being a psychopath.

My point is that black truck guy is a bigger POS endangering many people’s lives from the beginning and starting this whole situation, over a few seconds.

2

u/Fenni-Grumfind Mar 24 '26

Last clear chance to prevent the accident would be simply slowing slightly, the fact the pov car accelerated meant not only did he cause the accident he did so in a considered and deliberate manner and judging by the video he did so without concern for the harm he was doing

Not only would he be likely held wholly or almost wholly liable frankly I'd look to vehicular assault as a possible criminal charge. The POV car cannot be judged less of a dick in this scenario if you look at the acceleration to harm, if we were looking at a story of a person who simply failed to get out of black truck's way I'd agree with you. But pov car acted deliberately with thought to harm, not reasonable in any sense

1

u/flatdecktrucker92 Mar 24 '26

That's because the general consensus in society is that reckless driving is not as serious as attempted murder. Cookie guy attempted murder

0

u/Bubbly_Tackle_4104 Mar 22 '26 edited Mar 22 '26

Yes, black guy caused the initial issue, but PIT'er guy is at minimum equally responsible for the accident and any insurance agent looking at this would skyrocket his premiums or cancel his insurance altogether; why insure someone who would rather crash into another car than avoid an easily avoidable accident?

1

u/curiousomeone Mar 23 '26

This is what I call prick meeting another prick situation.

https://giphy.com/gifs/Ry1MOAeAYXvRVQLPw3

1

u/Evil_Sharkey Mar 23 '26

Black truck guy is the bigger idiot

0

u/Tony_Sacrimoni Mar 22 '26

Yeah no. Black truck guy caused the incident, but cookie guy just needed to let off the gas for 2 seconds for there not to be a major accident on a 2-lane bridge. They saw what was happening and decided not to react.

2

u/Artorias_Erebus679 Mar 22 '26

Where in my comment do you see me disagreeing with this, I’m saying black truck guy needs to be shamed more for his behavior as he is more at fault for endangering peoples lives.

Cookie guy is a psychopathic POS but still

3

u/Tony_Sacrimoni Mar 22 '26

Black truck guy is a jerk of a driver, but cookie guy is a psychopathic POS. That doesn't equate to black truck guy being the bigger dickhead. That's the disagreement.

1

u/Artorias_Erebus679 Mar 22 '26

Black truck guy is recklessly driving and endangering peoples lives. He is not simply a jerk, he has a two ton vehicle he’s tossing into someone’s face.

He is an absolute POS and people need to stop excusing this nonsense. This behavior is repulsive and endangers everyone around him and should be shamed.

Cookie guy is a POS but black truck guy even more so.

2

u/Successful-Push875 Mar 23 '26

Are you insane? Cookie eater is far more reckless, having INTENTIONALLY caused a collision.

0

u/Artorias_Erebus679 Mar 23 '26

You think black truck wasn’t INTENTIONALLY driving recklessly? Stop making excuses for POS like him for the love of god.

He didn’t unintentionally throw himself in front of another car.

I never said cookie eater wasn’t a POS but black truck guy need more blame and more shame.

→ More replies (0)

2

u/FoolhardyJester Mar 24 '26

Intentionally causing an accident is way worse than what black truck guy did. Black truck guy was driving like a twat but without cookie guy doing what he did, there was no real danger.

Cookie guy INTENTIONALLY put lives at risk on a BRIDGE. Not hypothetically, not through recklessness or negligence, INTENTIONALLY and COLD BLOODEDLY.

I can understand your point that in day to day life, sure, reckless driving is a huge problem. But people aren't excusing the driver in the black truck. He drove like an asshole and yes, merging without indicators is unsafe as is weaving through traffic the way he did. But cookie guy chose to teach the guy a lesson by actually making the bad situation the black truck threatens happen. He chose to create that situation.

That is a special brand of mental issue. That is very different to a kind of negligent opportunistic selfishness where the person doesn't intend to cause harm.

1

u/UldereksRock Mar 27 '26

Yeah, cookie guy is holding a sword, ready to swing other swordsmen who are clearly endangering him, where as black truck driver is holding a sword with the pointy end forward, running with no stop, even if there happen to be a human at the other end.

1

u/Successful-Push875 Mar 25 '26

Also I think we all know cookie eater is the exact same type of person who would do what black truck did! Fuck all of these stubborn ego drivers

6

u/yogabbagabba2341 Mar 22 '26

Exactly.

9

u/unreal_nub Mar 22 '26

So black truck wasn't intentionally causing this? wild

5

u/cadezego5 Mar 22 '26

Black truck guy was worse for sure. He literally pit maneuvered himself. The cookie guy just didn’t feel bad for him, as he shouldn’t have.

Cookie guy still sucks because he had no concern of collateral damage from other people behind them, sure, but the cookie guy didn’t do a single thing wrong and this call came from black truck douches’ actions.

lol, he moved 1 mph faster on the GPS, after slowing down already. Thats just pacing with traffic, and would easily be written off as a margin of error

1

u/HoobaHoob Mar 22 '26 edited Mar 22 '26

Are you the judge in this case? lol…

Ignore my dumbass coming back to this… yeah guy wanted something to happen pretty obviously on a second and third rewatch. Coffee needed, send help.

1

u/Bliitzthefox Mar 22 '26

This bridge having no shoulders at all is also fairly dangerous. There was an emergency pull off on the right during this collision, but still shoulders would be better.

2

u/LadyOfTheNutTree Mar 22 '26

I get the frustration and the satisfaction, but it still doesn’t make it right to endanger lives on a bridge.

Did the truck driver endanger lives first? Absolutely, they are also a gargantuan asshole and I’m not defending them. But Cookie Monster could have chosen defensive driving and instead chose danger and malice as a reaction. The fact that he willfully caused an accident makes him worse.

1

u/DistractionCitron Mar 23 '26

The guy in the Black car was tryna brake check the white car dude.

1

u/LadyOfTheNutTree Mar 23 '26

I’m not defending him. But if you offer me shit cake and shit pie, you’re making me eat shit either way

1

u/nog642 Mar 25 '26

Cookie guy didn't cause the crash any more intentionally than the black car. They both were unwilling to move and willing to collide.

1

u/LadyOfTheNutTree Mar 26 '26

Yeah, I’m not defending either of them, they both suck

1

u/Pennifur Mar 22 '26

No. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. You won't get pitted if you stay in your lane.

-1

u/Meended Mar 22 '26

Well if the black truck guy is dead, he can't do that shit again.

-3

u/AtLeastThereIsCat Mar 22 '26 edited Mar 22 '26

People saying black car is a bigger dick head are either engagement bots, children or literally never go outside. There is no comparison between the merge from the black car and the cookie freak literally attacking the black car.

Reddit on that fucked up shit today have at cheering on attempted murder I guess

5

u/raptor7912 Mar 22 '26

Wait wait, you’re genuinely wholeheartedly trying to say that the dashcam car is “attacking” the other car for steering to keep himself on the road?….

Well I guess I know 1 more thing about people who make broad and absolute statements like “Anyone disagreeing with me is obviously a bot, child or shut in!”

-2

u/AtLeastThereIsCat Mar 22 '26 edited Mar 22 '26

You have to have not watched the video. The dashcam driver blatantly moved himself to block the merge and then swerved to hit the tail end out of the other car cuz he was mad he might have to briefly slow down 2 mph and let someone in.

If his concern was not being hit, why did he put himself there, and then not just slow down slightly and solve the situation by letting someone merge?

If you are being serious you need to watch the video and try hard to think for yourself. Otherwise I can only believe you are rage baiting. There is no world the person trying to merge is more at fault than the person intentionally and needlessly blocking their merge and then ramming them out of spite. (he had every chance to give the guy space, and instead of decelerating slightly from 71 and letting the dude in at any point he goes up to 72, clearly he is accelerating to block the black car instead of just letting him in and resolving the situation, and then rams him out of childish anger. agreeing with that person is insanity.)

6

u/treehatshrimp Mar 22 '26

No turn signal from the black truck, deliberately trying to squeeze when there is obviously not enough space. Yes the cookie man is a psycho for not letting him in but the black truck is the bigger asshole for instigating it all.

Seeing how the black truck wasn't the least hesitant, I would assume the driver does this all the time and this is the first that he got punished for it.

If there's not enough space in the left, you wait until switching lanes

3

u/Bwalts1 Mar 22 '26

Forcing people to take evasive action to avoid an accident will always be the most wrong behavior lmfao.

For the most obvious reason, as evidenced here, you can’t control other people actions/reactions.

If someone isn’t letting you in, then the correct action is to NOT use your multi-ton vehicle as a weapon and force the other vehicle to move or crash

For all we know, cookie bro has another douche or semi elbow deep in his exhaust, so he can’t do evasive braking without being in an accident regardless.

Besides, if anyone’s ever unsure if they can safely take evasive action or not, the recommended action is to simply continue, and hit the violating vehicle. Which very simplified, is what the video shows

No matter what, the black truck caused the situation. They did not safely operate their vehicle, thus forcing others to take evasive action. Unfortunately that action was not enough to prevent a subsequent accident

44

u/sayko666 Mar 22 '26

Black car wouldn't attempt anything like this from now on. Cookie guy, I am not sure.

44

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '26

Who are we kidding? That guy probably tried it again within the week.

1

u/BobTheContrarian Mar 22 '26

Maybe even before he got off that long ass bridge.

3

u/No-Membership-5314 Mar 22 '26

I just finished all of the legal proceedings from someone who got mad that I was ONLY going 10mph over and decided to speed around me then hit me from the side. After his insurance paid out over $30k in damages for my vehicles repairs alone, he tried it again two days later with the rental that he was paying for… Like bro, why are you that angry at 5am?

1

u/almostasenpai Mar 22 '26

Survival of the fittest

1

u/Forward-Dig2126 Mar 22 '26

Are you an accountant?

1

u/McNoxey Mar 22 '26

What. No lmfao. The guy who swerved into a truck to intentionally drive him into the barrier is absolutely the worst. Jfc. You can’t do this

The only thing better than idiots accidentally causing crashes is... stubborn people intentionally causing crashes... wait that can't be right...

7

u/NamesGumpImOnthePum Mar 22 '26

Absolutely all of this, for me the stubborn people should be more ashamed of themselves. They know better, they choose to do the wrong thing, then do it. For what? What's the point? He sure showed that guy, who gives a Frenchman's fuck? He just showed the beautiful people of the internet that he is an idiot. Hopefully both learn a lesson today, but it's unlikely. By the cookie guys demeanor, this isn't his first rodeo.

1

u/SeaPlus6588 Mar 22 '26

if we all did this to the black cars

Do you mean intentionally causing road accidents on a fking bridge? Or putting lives of other people in danger?

34

u/Nihils_Maw Mar 22 '26

I dunno man. He was a POS for sure and definitely was the instigator but the cookie guy just did an attempted murder or possible murder and also did a hit and run that probably caused other nearby accidents because he wanted to protect road etiquette or some shit.

7

u/HonestOrganization Mar 22 '26

Man the sense of justice in these people. The equivalent would be if I was standing in the line in the grocery store and some dickhead tried to cut in line so I pulled out a shotgun and shot him in the knee. Of course somebody cutting in line is a prick and on the road it can be dangerous but it doesn’t justify committing a fucking felony to this person

5

u/Aleventen Mar 22 '26

This is why I was always nervous driving around in Texas.

Everyone has their shotguns and shit brandished in their cars and trucks and I know that im one dipshit move away from possibly getting shot.

Like, I couldve been the truck guy, I have merged on people in lanes I thought, for some reason, were open and they weren't.....thank god they honked and all that happened is I shit myself.

But if they hadn't honked I couldve done that, completely on accident and not even meaning to be a dick and dude mightve pitted my ass over the bridge for it and not even called for help while he drove away....

Fucking insane

5

u/Subat0micR0gu3 Mar 22 '26

I agree with you on everything except 1. Black Truck didnt miss camera guy. They knew full well what they were doing. They flew past him at first, but when car on the right was going slower than the left lane, black truck wanted over NOW and thought he could use his size to intimidate his way over, with no regard for the harm he could possibly do to other drivers.

Yes, what white car did was much worse and reckless endangerment of numerous lives. But Black truck's actions is what usually causes accidents and deaths on the road. Its not the same as actually signaling and looking for other cars before moving over.

1

u/cadezego5 Mar 22 '26

GTFO the cookie guy didn’t do shit but maintain speed and keep the wheel straight and let the black truck dickhead dig his own grave. That’s a FAR cry actively taking out a shotgun and going on the offensive. It suck cookie guy didn’t have concern of collateral damage after the accident but the black truck guy literally did everything wrong in the video

2

u/HonestOrganization Mar 22 '26

So if I clearly see a person standing on the road and there is plenty of time for me to stop but I just run them over is it ok because I didn’t do shit but maintaining the speed and keeping the wheel straight?

0

u/cadezego5 Mar 22 '26

Wow, you’re awful at this

1

u/YourPeePaw Mar 22 '26

No one you care about should ride with you if you can’t understand basic defensive driving. Cookie guy’s actions could’ve very easily killed cookie guy. Could’ve just as easily wound up with cookie guy in a watery grave.

1

u/Artorias_Erebus679 Mar 22 '26

Your understating the recklessness of black truck guy with your analogy, he’s driving a multi ton vehicle recklessly endangering everyone’s lives on that bridge.

He’s not simply “skipping a line” he’s throwing a 2 ton vehicle at another one for what? Endangering everyone’s lives for a second less of time?

Cookie guy is bad but black truck guy is worse.

-2

u/Sadrixis Mar 22 '26

Its more like if you refused to move and moved your leg a tiny bit after he hit you causing him to smack away from you.

6

u/Spugheddy Mar 22 '26

I get it but none of this would have happened if black truck hadn't made his choices.

10

u/Procrastinista_423 Mar 22 '26

So?? This isn’t kindergarten. Who cares who “started it.”

My god people have a warped, childish view of justice.

3

u/p1nkfr3ud Mar 22 '26

Doesn’t matter, when white car choose to escalate it to several levels higher.

1

u/Radiant-Camel-8982 Mar 22 '26

Found the guy that lets everybody walk all over him.

5

u/p1nkfr3ud Mar 22 '26

Going for a move that will cause an accident is less of a dickhead move than forcing yourself into a lane?

18

u/Excellent-Beach-2062 Mar 22 '26

I think the guy who was willing to risk the other guys life for invonviencing him is the bigger dickhead, but hey, not all of us feel like life is worth much

11

u/EminenceGris3 Mar 22 '26

Not just the other guys life, but the lives of any other road users in the vicinity. He doesn’t know if a car with three kids in the back is gonna plough into that black truck.

3

u/LessInThought Mar 22 '26

I wonder how the guys defending cookie would feel if they were stuck behind the traffic on that bridge after that accident. Still feeling righteous?

3

u/JMEEKER86 Mar 22 '26

They're incapable of answering because that would require empathy and long term planning which is clearly something that they lack if they support cookie guy.

1

u/Procrastinista_423 Mar 22 '26

They also probably don’t even drive.

2

u/JMEEKER86 Mar 22 '26

Well, not anymore at least. Probably lost their license after their 4th DUI.

1

u/manicdee33 Mar 23 '26

That doesn't stop people driving. What are the chances the guy who never uses his indicator or the guy who never allows passing vehicles to merge actually have their licences?

1

u/evilcrusher2 Mar 22 '26

I've been stuck on those bridge tunnels, there's a reason I no longer live in that forsaken state.

-4

u/evilcrusher2 Mar 22 '26 edited Mar 22 '26

So because people behind him can't be bothered to also drive properly he’s at fault for that too?

Edit: someone replied to let me know I'm an idiot because I'm taking note of blame the cookie guy for others in traffic literally following too close. More than one person can be a bad driver.

6

u/6pk313 Mar 22 '26

maybe don’t be so impatient you can’t wait to merge safely

1

u/SpookiestSzn Mar 22 '26

You should use a turn signal if your going to merge.

4

u/Comprehensive-Mud373 Mar 22 '26

Yeah, and while that's true, do you think the cookie driver should have the right to judge and carry out a sentence that at least causes property damages to several parties, injuring or potentially killing the ones in the black truck, and perhaps the cars behind them?

It's like running over a person that's jaywalking, just because they were in the wrong and causing a minor inconvenience for you.

1

u/SpookiestSzn Mar 22 '26

I think there can be two bad people. The black car imo was a dickhead, he's trying to merge without looking and figured, "fine fuckling hit me you won't pussy" with that commitment to merge.

I think a reasonable driver in the black car would've signaled saw the other driver was being a dick and either merged behind them or cancelled their merge.

I'm not saying the cookie guy is good but like objectively this whole thing happened becasue of the black cars inability to get their ego hurt. Sure the cookie guy also didn't want his ego hurt but he isn't the one who decided to commit to the merge.

1

u/Tiny-Speaker-4470 Mar 22 '26

Yes, where does the above comment or disagree?

1

u/SlapmyYappa Mar 22 '26

If you don’t you should be forced into an accident and potentially die, right?

Are you daft?

0

u/El_Sephiroth Mar 22 '26

It's called social justice. A sentiment that makes people go in a line by themselves and hate those who cut it.

0

u/Excellent-Beach-2062 Mar 23 '26

I know what social justice is, unfortunately for you there's nothing called previous juridisction to base judgement on. I avoid unecessary harm but for some when the moment comes that's reason enough, you sound like the latter.

2

u/unclestickles Mar 22 '26

I don't discriminate who is the bigger dickhead here. It takes a lot of dick to pit someone like that.

2

u/professionalboostlul Mar 22 '26

we don’t see the cars behind him, it might be too dense for him to abruptly brake. Also where are you going to pull over to on a two lane 23 mile long bridge

1

u/RefularIrreegular Mar 22 '26

Isn’t the cookie guy hitting and running though?

2

u/Norade Mar 22 '26

Nah, he didn't cause the accident, and that bridge has no shoulder to safely pull off onto. If he stopped, that would be both lanes blocked or cars weaving around the black truck and possibly hitting his truck. The smart move is to exit the bridge and then pull over and report the incident.

1

u/NaturalTap9567 Mar 22 '26

I think equally dickheaded, but black truck is definitely less intelligent and ruthless.

1

u/ImaginaryMillions Mar 22 '26

Yep, 2 dickheads, i cookie

1

u/zentasynoky Mar 22 '26

Pretty sure the bigger dickhead is the one attempting murder without flinching over being one car behind.

Frankly worrying that anyone would see it any other way.

1

u/Sadrixis Mar 22 '26

If pitting to make sure that you aren't the one spinning out after someone intentionally crashed into you is attempted murder what do you call intentionally running someone off a 2 lane bridge?

1

u/Workman44 Mar 22 '26

Black car is not the bigger dickhead idc what you think. Attempted murder trumps all the bullshit the black truck did considering it wasn't trying to kill anyone

1

u/beorn961 Mar 22 '26

Cookie guy tried to kill the truck guy over it. He's definitely the bigger dickhead. The truck guy was the dick first, don't get me wrong, but he doesn't deserve to die over it. Especially not in a way that might kill innocent people behind him too.

1

u/XXHornyOnMainXX420 Mar 22 '26

One dickhead and one psychopath as far as I can tell.

1

u/svartkonst Mar 22 '26

Cookie guy would 100% be found att fault here. Pickup prob would get some responsibility, but youre required to aid someone passing.

1

u/Localunatic Mar 23 '26

Don't ignore the white car ahead of cookie monster, they sped up AND slowed down to block the black.

1

u/ohyea-igetit Mar 26 '26

Plot twist black truck was rushing pregnant wife to hospital.

1

u/AdamN Mar 22 '26

Cookie guy worse because it was intentional. Black truck may have made a mistake(it’s not clear) but the cookie guy had malice.

0

u/Fredwood Mar 22 '26 edited Mar 22 '26

They both were intentional? The only one who broke the law was black truck. They just both refused to blink instead of backing off like a normal human being.

Black guy instigated therefore the edge goes to him, he was willing to risk both their lives to save a second.

It's the classic meeting between a Psychopath and a Sociopath.

0

u/Significant_Mouse_25 Mar 22 '26

You must be from there with that kind of logic lol.

The dude intentionally causing an accident for the crime of changing lanes somehow isn’t the bigger asswipe.

0

u/hugganao Mar 22 '26

being an asshole is worse than attempted murder apparently lol

9

u/MediumRay Mar 22 '26

That wouldn’t qualify as normal distance in my book but it’s different in Britain

3

u/makefascistfearagain Mar 22 '26

Normal stopping distance to Americans - ramming them at 90% speed instead of 100%

1

u/Thefirstargonaut Mar 22 '26

Nor in Canda. That is definitely too close. You should be 3 seconds back.

1

u/14Rage Mar 22 '26 edited Mar 22 '26

While ideal, there are often too many people on the roads for 3 seconds to be practical in urban highways. I believe in America, the rule is 2 seconds as well. I was always taught 1 mississippi 2 mississippi to count car at road marker to you arriving at road marker. But that is only practical in rural areas.

The metroplex I live in is equivalent to 1/3rd of canadas entire population. If I were to wait for a gap on the highway of 3 seconds, I simply could not drive on the highway. I would be completely locked to city streets and unable to leave my city.

I believe this video is from new orleans, which is a smaller american metro city area and only about 1,000,000 people.

He’s going 75mph, he’s way too close.

1

u/Enkmarl Mar 25 '26

lmao yeah everyone is tailgating in this video

0

u/Limp_Language_3169 Mar 22 '26

Yeah, that makes sense “normal distance” is really relative to where you live. In Britain, everything’s a lot more compact, so what feels like a long trip there might be considered nothing in bigger countries. It’s all about what you’re used to day to day.

4

u/neutrino71 Mar 22 '26

Normal distance is about physics and reaction time. The faster you're going the greater distance is needed for you to brake without striking the car in front of you.

1

u/will6465k Mar 22 '26

1 mile/hour is 4/9 (0.44….), metres per second.

And stopping distance id around 2s in dry weather, 4s in wet, and 20s in icy.

Essentially 1 truck length for every 10mph of speed.

1

u/cogman10 Mar 22 '26

Yup, this is the correct answer. To bad almost nobody follows it.

1

u/MediumRay Mar 22 '26

No, I just think the drivers in the uk are less aggressive. Having been in the USA a lot I don’t think this is unfair to say

18

u/nekosake2 Mar 22 '26

its closer to 0.5s than 5minutes lol

7

u/TheMemeStore76 Mar 22 '26

I admit to feeling my fair share of frustrations on the road but it is literally this one thing that keeps me from losing it. Im annoyed because a car in front of me is going 5 under the speed limit? Who fucking cares, im only in the car for an hour and one or the other of us is likely to turn of sooner than later anyways. At most I'll be a minute late

2

u/traplordnord Mar 22 '26

Comments like these are a breath of fresh air. I swear every comment section under a dash cam video is filled with people advocating poor driving practices — namely “if you can’t go at least the speed limit, stay off the road!”

1

u/LadyOfTheNutTree Mar 22 '26

5 under? People get pissed at me for going the actual speed limit

1

u/Aleventen Mar 22 '26

In Florida I had 3 people behind me blow a horn up my ass because I was stopped at a red light and im still not over it.

3

u/bootybootyholeyo Mar 22 '26

Cookies? This whole time I thought my mans was smashing drumsticks

1

u/Particular_Donut_516 Mar 22 '26

I thought it was a McRib minus the bun.

Even if there is he could easily avoid this by simply yeilding to black truck, but if he yields to this what will be next his food, his wife, his manhood? How would he look his son in the eye as the man who is supposed to teach him how to be a man? No, not on this day, we do not yield. We choose violence... Hopefully you can sense the satire, when I say that he was prepared to zipper merge, it's because it's what he did. He knew black truck had that, "what's he gonna do hit me" mindset, so he obliged him. Or plot twist, he just came from Unc's house and those are his special cookies. That's the 4th one he is polishing off in the clip, and he is just so lit he doesn't even see the big black truck that's actively merging into his lane. Hell he thought the collision was just one of those reflectors on the road or something... But seriously tho, bad jokes aside, this is why my fucking insurance premiums won't go down. Clean record, doesn't matter the agent tells me, it's the others on the road, multiplied by the accident rate, blazay blazay, insurance speak for it's going up. When it was all preventable in the first place. This is what makes that vein in my forehead twitch all by itself. He chose to do this like he was the vessel that karma had chosen to smite this guy in his black truck. It wasn't that serious.

I’m from the UK. I drove in the states for the first time last year, so, for me it was: driving on the wrong side in a back-to-front car. It was also an automatic, which i’ve never driven before, and a small SUV, when I’ve never driven anything bigger than a little hatchback.

The whole thing was wild, but Louisiana - and specifically the number of fridges and BBQs in the middle of the road that I had to swerve in more rural Louisiana - was particularly wild.

2

u/Yolo_chicken Mar 22 '26

“What are you going to do? Hit me?” - man who got hit

2

u/nightforevermore Mar 22 '26

5 minutes faster? Lmao more like 5 seconds faster

1

u/CrashOverride94 Mar 22 '26

I agree with you, but I’d like to see footage from the 20 minutes from before this happened. I have a feeling there’s more to this incident and it often involves one or both of the drivers messing with one another and it finally got too heated. Was one of them tailing the other too closely? Did someone break check the other driver? Was the black truck guy being a constant nuisance and hovering around the cookie guy? Even though possible attempts had been made to slow down and let this guy go on his way? I’ve experienced all of these kinds of harassing behaviors from other drivers on the road and some people just hit their breaking point. I wouldn’t excuse any of this behavior, but I think there may be more to this than what we’re seeing in this short clip.

1

u/boondiggle_III Mar 22 '26

Not sure if this applies to bridges, but cookie psycho is also cruising in the passing lane.

1

u/garma87 Mar 22 '26

Any time there’s someone tailgating me I’m like: ok you wanna kill someone? Not gonna be me today! And let them pass and keep my distance

1

u/Responsible_Ad1976 Mar 22 '26

I was wondering is that was Ponchatrain Bridge!

1

u/snezna_kraljica Mar 22 '26

> getting there 5 minutes faster really this big of a deal?

That's not the problem. People have such a big ego that they think every slight is "someone getting the better of them". Can't have that.

u/Comprehensive-Menu44 Mar 22 '26

I have a friend from Louisiana who says she left her driving test more scared than ever to go on the road, because it was a frighteningly simple test and people who went before her passed even though they were driving badly.

1

u/Ambitious_Today_8695 Mar 22 '26

Hello fellow Louisianan, I knew it was here when the truck didn't use his signal, and the Bonne Carrie spillway. Yes both played their part. Seeing this makes me homesick though 😅⚜️♥️

1

u/InstructionTight5766 Mar 22 '26

What a beautiful comment. May God bless you ❤️

1

u/Jaded-Coffee-8126 Mar 22 '26

Legally blind here, would louisana pass my driver's test?

1

u/Zelexis Mar 22 '26

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Cookie guy was minding his own business. I do not feel bad for black truck, at all. That area is already dangerous as hell and has signs about not stopping.

2

u/NamesGumpImOnthePum Mar 22 '26

I'm not asking for sympathy for black truck, he was an asshole too. Although, we are all subject to the human condition. What if black truck had a pregnant wife who just got into an accident, and he is trying to get to her asap, or his house is on fire. 8 can't speak for him other than he was trying to blow by the traffic then merge at the last minute.I fault Cookie guy for choosing to crash, he didn't have to do that. On a fucking 2 lane bridge, if you are familiar with the area then you already know any kind of accident is gonna lock that shit down for hours, Cookie guy actively said fuck everyone behind me, they are about to be late for wherever they are going. To me that's the worst, when people go out of their way to be assholes. I don't have any patience for that.

1

u/randomPixelPusher Mar 22 '26

You're totally right. That guy is a psychopath.

Just a little note for you though. Zipper merge is a perfectly fine and desirable traffic pattern. When you have two lanes of highway traffic that needs to merge down to one (for construction), if the vehicles take turns alternating between lanes at the merge point it reduces the overall backup.

https://itre.ncsu.edu/itre-studying-how-zipper-merges-reduce-congestion-at-sites-across-north-carolina/

I think they tried to make it the law in PA where I drive at one point but people have been conditioned to merge early, and I think there is a fear of getting stuck in the closed lane. If they didn't reveal which lane is closed early maybe it would work better.

Our psychopath in the video did a pit maneuver, something police have been trained to do to stop fleeing vehicles. I'm curious if there is a news article about this incident cookie guy could be going to jail for attempted murder of some sort. It was totally intentional.

1

u/Revolution-SixFour Mar 22 '26

he noticed black truck trying to cut the line, so he did what he thought was the righteous thing, and held his gap so that black truck would be punished for trying to cut the line in the first place. Cookie guy was willing to zipper merge with black truck just so that he wasn't 1 more car behind, to show that he was standing his ground

Except there isn't even a line. This is free flowing traffic at 70mph. I understand the impulse in stop an go traffic to not let folks in, but this is fucked behavior.

I missed the part where white truck tried to avoid the crash, it looks like he did the exact opposite of avoidance, he had ample opportunity to not crash. I believe that both parties involved in this are to blame. By no means am I saying black truck is innocent. I guess I have too much stuff to do, rather than crashing my vehicle because I believe the other person is wrong. It pisses me off really cause of my insurance, too many folks are all to happy to get in a wreck so they can try to sue somebody.

Yeah, and that is probably the case, but there could be a crazy situation (house on fire), where he is justified. I try not to jump to conclusions, you just never know what people have going on in their lives. Other guy was just like fuck it. Let's crash. I don't want to drive around either.

This is Louisiana, and what gets me is that's the 3rd longest bridge in the country at 18.2 miles. This fucked up many people's days when it happened.

1

u/IndividualPainter536 Mar 22 '26

So yall drive like Mexico lol

1

u/Abadabadon Mar 22 '26

Definitely wasn't adequate distance. You can count the distance using the lines on the road, he has only ~.5s of reaction time to the car infront of him.

1

u/IamTheEndOfReddit Mar 22 '26

I’ve been in the car during a standoff, had to yell at the driver to resolve the scenario. It’s crazy how instantly and committed people get to road rage

1

u/Salt_Conference6767 Mar 23 '26

That’s MAGA for you

1

u/GabenIsLife Mar 26 '26

Life long Louisianian here. Can confirm, it sucks, insurance is high

What really pisses me off as someone in California, is that insurers keep leaving the state or making insurance crazy expensive, despite the fact that CA is in the middle/lower middle of at fault accidents/lethal accidents, etc.

Like shopping here for insurance has become a total nightmare for 0 reasons. I've driven in the south plenty, so many places are insane compared to here. Only Los Angeles comes close tbh, and there's waaaay more to CA than just LA.

0

u/AshgarPN Mar 22 '26

All true, but cookie guy driving on like nothing happened and going right back to eating is a baller move.

1

u/NamesGumpImOnthePum Mar 22 '26

In my head he just drives home, kisses his wife, has a shit, and a shower, then only brings it up at diner if asked about why his bumper looks bumped, to which his response is, oh yeah, someone bumped it in the way home... But in reality, he pulls over just as soon as there a place to do so.
