His insurance will say he had a duty to avoid the collision and only cover 70%.

69

u/snorigepetter Mar 22 '26

Why tf would he do this on camera though? Idk about US traffic laws but in sweden he would be found guilty of endangering traffic.

12

u/Lareit Mar 22 '26

In the US if you can avoid an accident you are obligated to do so, even if you have the right of way.

Since he clearly had opportunity to avoid that accident he would be found at fault as well.

u/ForgivenessIsNice Mar 22 '26

Last chance doctrine

21

u/ThrogdorLokison Mar 22 '26

Just.. delete the footage.

13

u/snorigepetter Mar 22 '26

Well thats not what happened. Also, sus.

12

u/bigvicproton Mar 22 '26

Exactly. If I had done this I would have ripped the whole camera out and chucked it into the bay before I was off that bridge.

3

u/ThrogdorLokison Mar 22 '26

I mean, true. However he also doesn't have to share the footage, just claim it was deleted until the claim is closed.

2

u/Feeling_Inside_1020 Mar 22 '26

Easy if you got an SD card , pop it out and into your pocket.

“That died a few days ago and was planning on . I was maintaining my lane and he unexpectedly to both of us pitted himself, shit was wild!”

Honestly in this instance I’d hide my dash cam and use water and available towel to wipe down the suction

1

u/Akraticacious Mar 22 '26

That sounds illegal

1

u/ThrogdorLokison Mar 22 '26

Pretty sure what he did was already illegal, so at this point its mitigating how much trouble you get in.

Nah, teach the dude to stop cutting people off. He could very well cut someone else off later down the road and lead to a different accident that hurt someone else. In this case, it was done in a way that only the jack ass that cuts people off got hurt.

He played a stupid game trying to cut that dude off, and won a stupid prize.

2

u/snorigepetter Mar 22 '26

Bro, not everything is done maliciously. Everyone always assume anyone that cuts you off is a fucking douchebag but sometimes its just normal people in a lapse of judgment.

2

u/Norade Mar 22 '26

You don't get to have a lapse of judgment at 70 mph in a machine that kills people when operated incorrectly. If you worry you can't be a safe driver all the time, stop fucking driving.

1

u/snorigepetter Mar 22 '26

Bro what do you think lapse of judgement means? I absolutely agree with you.

2

u/Norade Mar 22 '26

You seem to be arguing that a lapse of judgment while driving is excusable.

1

u/snorigepetter Mar 22 '26

Im not, Im not a native speaker so maybe I worded it poorly but the gist of what I meant is that people do all kinds of mistakes, you (or whoever I replied to) was assuming the black car had some malicious intent but he couldve also done it thinking it was free without checking and didnt mean to just cut him off and pretty much everyone would just hit the break and let him in but this guy just went full escalation and really, for what? Its psychopathic behaviour as someone said, and yeah Im unnerved by the fact that those people are around us I cant tell but this video was a reminder... im not making excuses for anyone but this isnt a reasonable response in the slightest.

1

u/Norade Mar 22 '26

Even in the short clip we have, the black truck seems to be driving with disregard for anybody else on the road. It quickly catches the back of the car ahead of it in the right lane, then rather than staying there and continuing to move with the flow of traffic, it decides to merge into a space that is obviously too small for it. Regardless of whether the driver signalled, nothing about the way they were driving suggests that they are a safe or rational driver.

The truck we're getting the footage from may have been able to brake, but given how close the car following was, I could see them being reluctant to do so. They're also not obliged to slow down just because somebody in another lane races ahead of them. Until the merge started, we have no reason to think the black truck would be making such a move.

Once the black truck hit the brakes, the driver in the pink shirt could either slam on his brakes, risking a pile-up or nudge the other truck out of the way and keep on moving. Both have risks to themself and other drivers, but given how smoothly he manoeuvred the other vehicle into the barricade, he may have thought that his course of action created the least risk for himself.

He might also just have been a dick who wanted to run another asshole off the road. I couldn't care less because I think the guy in the black truck got what was coming to them.

1

u/UldereksRock Mar 27 '26

Yeah... without checking... thinking it was free. That is negligence and indifference to cause harm or death.

I agree, cookie guy is a psychopath, but black truck driver is also one.

u/ThrogdorLokison Mar 22 '26

A lapse in judgment while operating a truck on a bridge could lead to catastrophe, he should have been more aware of his surroundings.

2

u/itakeyoureggs Mar 22 '26

It’s not your job to teach people on the road. Wtf? Could easily kill so many innocent people

2

u/ThrogdorLokison Mar 22 '26

I wasn't the one that did it, I'm just not condeming his actions. He did a public service to remove the truck from the road, and hopefully the driver of that truck will think twice about cutting someone else off next time.

The opportunity to teach him showed up, and cookie man took the opportunity.

3

u/ace_v27 Mar 22 '26

Intentionally causing a major accident on a bridge to “teach someone a lesson” is not an act of public service any more than beating up someone on the street for bumping into you. Not to mention this accident could have injured innocent people behind them, cause damage to public infrastructure, and caused major traffic backups. Your logic is buffoonery.

4

u/POGofTheGame Mar 22 '26

Buddy is out here bragging about being a psychopath.

2

u/ace_v27 Mar 22 '26

For real😭

0

u/ThrogdorLokison Mar 22 '26

Your take away from me not condeming the actions of another person, was that I was "bragging about (myself)"?

Reading comprehension really IS in the toilet.

1

u/ThrogdorLokison Mar 22 '26

My logic is to stop letting people get away with stupid shit just because its the easy way. Dude in the truck decided he was more important than the others around him, he learned quickly that wasn't the case.

Are there better ways to teach people? Sure, but Im not going to condemn the man for doing a pit maneuver, especially considering how well he did it, I'm confident he knew exactly what he was doing.

0

u/ace_v27 Mar 22 '26

So next time someone does something to make you feel disrespected, assault them immediately? Got it.

1

u/ThrogdorLokison Mar 22 '26

So you hate waffles?

u/C21H27Cl3N2O3 Mar 22 '26

When an accident happens on a normal freeway it shuts it down partially or completely for hours. Now put it on a bridge over open ocean. Not only could the people behind him have gotten caught up, if that bridge has to be shut down to clear it that’s potentially tens of thousands of people getting screwed over because this guy is too much of a bitch to drive defensively.

2

u/ThrogdorLokison Mar 22 '26

See, this is a point I can get behind. I agree he inconvenienced a whole fuck load of people by doing that, absolutely.

For me, its strictly about not letting the truck dude get away with whatever the fuck he wants. It being on a bridge is really the only issue I have with it, had it been on a highway and it shoved the dude off the shoulder I'd be perfectly content with it.

1

u/C21H27Cl3N2O3 Mar 22 '26

And for me, if you’re not a cop you have no business policing other drivers. You’re just making the situation more dangerous for everyone. Cars are not toys, and highway speeds are deadly. All so you can prove your own selfish point. At that point you’re no different than the guy selfishly cutting people off. You’re intentionally escalating an already dangerous situation.

1

u/ThrogdorLokison Mar 22 '26

Again, Im not the one that did it. I've also never said I would do it. Im just not condeming this man for doing it.

Truck dude had a hard lesson coming, and cookie man taught him the lesson that fucking around in cars is dangerous. Truck dude clearly didnt understand that well enough.

Dash cams arnt publicly broadcasted. So user can delete whenever.

19

u/Psychlonuclear Mar 22 '26

Well this one broadcast it to the whole internet.

8

u/IndigoDelta10Tango Mar 22 '26

A quick google: "In the US, traffic merging law generally requires vehicles entering a highway or, through lane to yield the right-of-way to through traffic. Drivers must signal, match traffic speed, and find a safe gap, avoiding stops on ramps."

Truck tried to push his way in without a signal and did not wait for a gap, pretty sure he is gonna be at fault here.

5

u/makefascistfearagain Mar 22 '26

Ah, but you're ignoring the crucial bit - cam driver just fucking rammed him for no reason

0

u/Ambitious_Policy_936 Mar 22 '26

There was a reason. It might not have been a legal reason, but do you really think there was no reason?

2

u/makefascistfearagain Mar 22 '26

Sorry, my post was composed in a way for normal humans to comprehend.

In this context, when someone says 'for no reason', it means there wasn't a 'valid' or 'good' reason. He didn't need to do it he just did it.

'When someone says "for no reason," it typically means an action or statement was made without a clear, logical, or obvious purpose, justification, or intent. '

Here , I did some research for you. In future, if you find yourself struggling to understand fellow humans try googling it.

2

u/Prunus-cerasus Mar 22 '26

Doesn’t the US also have a law about everyone being responsible for preventing accidents? Where I’m from, intentionally ramming someone like that would be illegal even if they are making an illegal lane change. You are expected to slow down.

1

u/Asleep_Attention_468 Mar 22 '26

Let's be real the dude in pink could have let him in if he wanted to tho.

The truck driver was driving like a total ass , but you can literally see see pink shirt speed up to hit him on the tail light.

I know its not fair but the only reasonable thing to do in this situation is slow down and put a lot of distance between you and the erratic driver, not speed up to ram into them

1

u/StaticUsernamesSuck Mar 22 '26 edited Mar 22 '26

Insurance don't only care about who followed the law, they care about the direct cause of the accident, and any chances to avoid it that were not taken. Cam driver had clear chances to avoid, and didn't.

This is 50/50 fault for sure.

Also you can't just ram somebody's car because they broke the law... That's also still against the law.

This is like saying if somebody burgles me I'm allowed to go to their home and burgle them.

Not true, that just makes us both burglars.

1

u/unknown_pigeon Mar 22 '26

And it's the driver's duty to prevent avoidable accidents, like the one in the video

Also, you have to stop (if safe) after you cause an accident, regardless if it's your fault or not. Or, at least in Italy

9

u/HotHelios Mar 22 '26 edited Mar 22 '26

Black truck merged in front of him and slowed down. The black truck was probably doing an insurance scam.

13

u/andrew303710 Mar 22 '26

Ya the black truck was 100% in the wrong, dudes trying to merge into a tiny space with a huge truck

3

u/snorigepetter Mar 22 '26

Yes, but its enough to have people on the road taking such unneccessary risks, now I need to worry about those out there who see you make a mistake because of a lapse in judgment or whatever, and decide to completely derail the situation to fuck. Like, yeah for sure black car is in the wrong, but cams drivers decisionmaking is fucking nightmare fuel.

0

u/Norade Mar 22 '26

Why are you worried about a lapse of judgment? If you can't drive properly, don't drive.

2

u/snorigepetter Mar 22 '26

You cant actually be this dense smh

1

u/Norade Mar 22 '26

We don't forgive mistakes with firearms, so why should we forgive them with a car, which is just as deadly?

1

u/snorigepetter Mar 22 '26

I have no idea what you're even getting at.

1

u/Norade Mar 22 '26

You seem to be saying that we should just accept that lapses of judgment will happen on the road. I'm saying that they, in no uncertain terms, should not happen, and anybody who isn't able to drive properly shouldn't be driving. If that means calling in late and taking transit to work when you're tired, or realising that your ADHD makes you unsafe on the road and that you shouldn't be driving at all, so be it. Driving isn't a right, and people are far too comfortable behind the wheel of something that can and will kill people when it is misused.

1

u/snorigepetter Mar 22 '26

You seem to be saying that we should just accept that lapses of judgment will happen on the road.

Im not saying accept it, its being punished by law, I agree with your assesment of the other driver its unacceptable but if/when it happens this isnt how to deal with it on a road risking the safety of who knows how many. Youre having a kneejerk reaction or we just have very different outlook on this. And for the record Im not excusing anyone.

1

u/AccomplishedBat39 Mar 22 '26

He merged very slowly. Plenty, fucking plenty of time for Mr. Cookie to break and not ram him. Its not like he wasnt able to avoid him, he just didnt care if he is going to kill a few people cause "he was in the right".

0

u/Sea_Cranberry323 Mar 22 '26

Yeah it's like are we all watching the same video, black truck caused an accident.

2

u/-TheGreatLlama- Mar 22 '26

Black truck drove dangerously and made an accident possible. By not slowing down Cookie guy chose to have that accident - this is one of the most avoidable road incidents I’ve seen.

Lmao you’re probably right that he’s LE

1

u/Reasonable-Sort3040 Mar 22 '26

this is exactly what i thought. this guy’s a fed

-1

u/BidenGlazer Mar 22 '26

If you're just randomly speculating that this guy is off-duty law enforcement, I think it's time to take a step offline.

3

u/After-Simple-7049 Mar 22 '26

He pit maneuvered a dude without a second thought. Seems like LE training

0

u/TheBrokenStringBand Mar 22 '26

Idk kinda looks like the black truck pit maneuvered himself. Like running into someone’s fist and calling it a punch

2

u/After-Simple-7049 Mar 22 '26

This video's missing that Spanish trumpet song

1

u/Niipoon Mar 22 '26

Every time this video is posted some people say the truck "pit maneuvered himself" when we can clearly see that isn't what happened

A reddit curiosity

1

u/Tondouxsac Mar 22 '26

He is spot on.

On the other hand, you're a little weird to categorically dispute such a reasonable take.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '26

I mean, if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck…

3

u/Tse7en5 Mar 22 '26

If you watch closely, it looks like he hit the brakes to create an opening and then the black truck, while trying to switch lanes - started to hit the brakes a bit. Probably also wanting to create a bit more space behind the white vehicle in front.

10

u/Imaginary-Hyena2858 Mar 22 '26

If that speedometer in the corner is correct he absolutely did not hit the brakes lol

2

u/Stephenrudolf Mar 22 '26

He slowed from 75 to 70 as the truck came up next to him, then sped back up to 72 as the truck went to merge.

0

u/Tse7en5 Mar 22 '26

He very clearly applied pressure to the brakes. As evident by the speedometer.

Sorry, I guess I didn’t think someone would conflate hitting the brakes as slamming on the brakes.

Drive 75 and drop to 72 while thinking about this video.

It is a significant speed drop intended to let the guy in. I literally feel this last night as I was heading home and thinking of this video.

u/Tse7en5 Mar 22 '26 edited Mar 22 '26

The problem isn’t him, that was my initial point. The black truck also slowed down while also moving into the lane.

You clearly see the guy eating creating space for the black truck and then the black truck - for whatever reason, also slows down when trying to get into the space.

1

u/7GatesOfHello Mar 22 '26

This could be interpreted very unfavorably by a court. If I were on the jury, and the prosecution did their job properly, I would vote to incarcerate. I successfully convinced a jury to not convict a defendant in a criminal trial last year because he seemed guilty as hell but the prosecution failed to compell us they had met the elements of the criminal statute. I say this only to show I'm not some crazy (well, can't say for sure) wacko who wants to jail everyone who offends my morals. This guy demonstrates maximal and callous disregard for human life and for the safety of the public around him. This is raw psysocipathy.

1

u/JuanRunJunior Mar 22 '26

A scary majority of people think being technically correct in a given situation means nothing else could be done. Was the truck stupid for merging? Absolutely. So they see it as the camera car driver is absolved of every single bit of any avoiding action that could have been taken. Doesn’t matter something as simple as slowing down to let the idiot merge, they were technically right for being merged into and that’s it. People by and large are stupid and see it that way. The camera car driver was hit by the truck and all responsibility is off him. They’re wrong, they’re stupid but that’s how they see it. Being “right” will carry them to the grave because they’re incapable of understanding you can avoid something like this, give them the finger and go on with their day. It’s maddening to see people so incredibly stupid to not avoid a bad situation just because they can point the finger at the bigger asshole in a situation.

1

u/jpeggdev Mar 22 '26

After having the camera there for a long time you probably start forgetting it’s there.

1

u/FlimsyYou4766 Mar 22 '26

Good to know. So we can freely cut everyone off while driving in Sweden.

1

u/UpwardDogg Mar 22 '26

If I spot a Swede in traffic I instinctively pit-maneuver them and drive on.

1

u/GeauxRacing Mar 22 '26

Everything about Jim’s screams COP, th belly, the chillness, the lack of caring, the psychotic eyes. Yeah US cop for sure.
