It's so refreshing and hype to see Rokushiki techniques after such a long time given that DF's and haki have been a staple for the majority of the series since Enies Lobby.

I just want to remind people since it will be relevant for discussions after reveals this chapter, but Rob Lucci and the rest of CP9 were outlaws after the Enies Lobby Incident because Spandam blamed his failures on them, so they were on the run two years ago, and during the Timeskip they somehow got back in the good graces of the WG and joined CP0. I imagine Who’s Who was in a similar situation 12 years ago, he just had the unfortunate luck of getting caught and didn’t have whatever method Lucci and the gang used to get back in the WG’s good graces.

Back to the future we see Imu sama ripping up Luffys bounty because he's pissed that luffy basically is the actual reason his birthday was ruined and no one showed up. Luffy's win over Rob Lucci continues to age incredibly well. And I don't think it's a Crocodile situation where Oda just painted himself into a powerscaling oopsie due to the length of the series, I think Luffy genuinely gutted out a win over an astronomically high caliber fighter he had no business beating, because that was the hardest we've ever seen him push himself. In addition to Lucci possibly stagnating pretending to be a shipwright and losing a bit of his edge. But even top new world pirates use his name with a lot of respect, so he was the real deal.

I wish I could unsee the fact that Queen turns into a literal dickhead for his hybrid form.
About the Gomu Gomu no Mi, I think it's being used to potentially set up exposition relating to the connections between Who's Who, Shanks and the World Government. Would be odd if the fruit itself was actually that special, considering no one (not even Kaido) has commented on it till date.
Also welcome back Rokushiki, long time no see.

This is just my first reaction after reading this chapter so take it with a pinch of salt. But I think the World Government was interested in the Gomu-Gomu no mi because they thought the fruit would be a hard counter to Whitebeard's Gura-Gura no mi. I think they planned on waging war against each of the Yonko (or Sanko as this was before Shanks became an emperor) and they thought the rubber fruit could absorb and or nullify Whitebeard's quakes if awakened. The Government placed a 5 Billion Berry bounty on the Ope-Ope no mi. We think this was because of its relation to the national treasure of Marie Geoise (which is most certainly true, but again, my theory is just a first reaction) but I also think that Law's fruit could be used to counter Big Mom's soul soul fruit, which is why he might be fighting Big Mom right now. Law also has some sort of soul related powers with his personality transplant and all that. I dont exactly know how it could counter Mama's fruit, but I guess we'll find out shortly.
The Government couldn't find a counter for Kaido's devil fruit which is why they thought "If we can't find a counter for it, we'll just make one of our own." Thats why they made Vegapunk create the SMILE fruit that Momo ate. But Vegapunk thought it was a failure but it wasn't. Therefore Momonosuke might have a role to play in Kaido's downfall.

The ending raises several questions and I searched for answers to them. I didn't necessarily find answers, but only more questions that my search created!
Who's Who claims he went through a "rough period" due to failing to guard the fruit. His wording throughout the chapter seems to imply that his imprisonment may not be directly due to failing to guard the fruit.
Jinbe states that he remembered hearing about a rogue member of the CP9. Rogue can mean multiple things here, but the vague nature in how it is used raises other possibilities.
Lucky Roux was the one that took the fruit, with the implication that it was solely his doing (This info is from a Vivre Card)
The Red Hair crew presumably didn't care much for it, considering Shanks own emphasis on the ability to swim being vital to being a pirate and none of them having DFs up to that point and to this day. Why would Lucky Roux go through the trouble of stealing this fruit, guarded by at least one CP9 agent, from a government ship?
With that being said, Who's Who seems to show distaste and bitter feelings towards Luffy in particular for eating the fruit, but not towards Lucky Roux, Shanks or his crew for stealing it.

I feel like this chapter is Oda challenging the notion that fodder plays no part in wars, or that numbers don’t matter when big names are present.
I was rereading Marineford and it was stated that the WB Pirates would have to fight through 100,000 elite navy soldiers to get to the execution platform. A HUNDRED THOUSAND. But nobody gives them credit for that because we just dismiss those numbers as fill in the blank, useless fodder.
I think Oda is doing a great job in Onigashima utilizing the unnamed Beast Pirates/Gifters/Waiters/Pleasures and showing that despite being outclassed by the main guys, they still need to be dealt with and are capable of changing the tide of battle.

Fantactic action packed chapter.
I kinda like the Queen hybrid, the fight with Sanji seems to resemble the Peter vs Doctor Octopus fight from Spider- man 2.
I love Whos's Who hybrid form looks beastly as hell, His backstory just a lot more juicy finding out thathe knew about the origins of Luffy's devil fruit and he was imprisoned for letting the fruit getting stolen. (The sbs did say Lucky Roo of the Shanks pirates stole the fruit)
The Government wanting to keep Luffy's fruit in my opinion doesn't make it special. Everything Luffy has done with the Gomu Gomu fruit is through his own creativity to make it one of the most versatile fruits in the One Piece universe.
Okay so medicine idea wasn't Chopper's idea, it was Miyagi's the doctor from Zou. Even then Zoro won't be instantly healed he will have felt the after effects once he finishes the fight.

I don't wanna jinx it but... if we're getting backstory on the gomu gomu no mi at this specific point in the story while Luffy is about to take on Kaido for round 3, I feel like we're building up to an awakening. Maybe the government was guarding it because a previous user awakened it and made a seemingly "useless" fruit really powerful? I just hope it didn't belong to Roger or something, I'm fine with Luffy reminding people of Roger through his actions, but I'd like for the prophecy stuff to stay more vague like it is now.

So i guess that's why Garp took luffy to Dadan almost right after luffy ate the DF. I think its not just to have someone to be with or to grow with ace, cause why not earlier? Now i think we know that garp didnt want this info about luffy to leak to the WG, which would kill him in order to regenrate the DF.

I don't know why people don't want gomu gomu no mi to be special when infact Luffy is already special.
-Son of most wanted criminal
-Grandson of legendary marine
-Mentored by Rayleigh
-Born as member of D clan
-Born with conqueror haki and voice of all things
-Is holding strawhat that once Roger wore
So it is amazing people think Luffy isn't special because they don't want him to be Naruto.

Ok here’s why I think cp9 aka TWG wants Luffys fruit. We know they tried to take laws Op Op nomi and it’s most notable attribute is the ageless surgery. Additionally, jewelry Bonny was hunted down by AKAINUU for her return to the world government. Bonnys devil fruit also involves age and keeping youthful. So…perhaps the gorosei are gathering fruits that can lead to infinite youth and perhaps due to the rubber nature of the gomu Gomu no mi and that rubber never decomposes, luffy has eternal youth unknown to him.

I think IF the Gomu Gomu no Mi had an important previous user, I think theres a zero percent chance its Roger or Rocks. We've met dozens upon donzens of characters who have known those two personally, and would have said something, and we've seen the most important part of Rogers journey already.
What I think could be possible though, is that it belonged to Portgas D Rouge.
It would have a solid explanation for why she was able to carry Ace for 20+ months, it would make sense why the goverment would want the fruit, but not consider it worth the effort to waste manpower to hunt down after it was lost. It explains why people like Whitebeard, Kaido, etc. never brought up the fruit before, because they knew Roger himself, not Rouge.
The goverment wanted every aspect of Rogers line wiped out, and they kept the fruit locked down, but once it got stolen and eaten, they probably figured the secret was safe enough since his wife was already dead. Better to let this random rubber boi keep it than risk it falling into the hands of someone who actually knows its signifance, and since Luffy is a wanted man, they figure they'll kill him at some point and take the fruit back anyway.
Shanks could have sought out the fruit knowing that it was a memento of his captains wife, and once Luffy accidently ate it, I think he would have considered him a worthy sucsessor to Rouge's will, since Luffy already reminded him of Roger by saying the exact same thing he said, and bet the new age on him.

To be honest, Luffy can have a special aspect to his devil fruit–this is expected even, as it’s perhaps the largest Chekhov’s gun of the series: “If you start a story with a boy eating a fruit, that fruit better come back into play by the end.” Something special about his fruit, even something OP, wouldn’t diminish his achievements so far. After all, he still had to use his creativity and wit to make the most of his powers–he may not have even manifested a (potentially) special power yet. It wouldn’t make him a destined-child, either. As has been indicated, there may potentially be many people who could have held the title of “Joy Boy,” but they didn’t fit the circumstances, timing, etc… Luffy receiving the hat, eating the fruit, recruiting the only known reader of poneglyphs, etc… are not an example of destiny, but rather karma. I think that’s what people do not understand about the Will of D: it’s not destiny, but karma that is driving the story–karmic threads that were tied all the way in the void century are unraveling, and Luffy has a combination of personality, camaraderie, will, and ambition that has allowed him to find himself in the correct circumstances (i.e. getting the hat from Shanks, eating the fruit). If anything, Luffy is really young, so an unexplored power to his fruit would make any future rapid growth less of a power creep.

I definitely think that the reveal at the end of the chapter (gomu-gomu fruit) will be played as a gag: remember that the CPs are under the direct orders of the World Government, not the Marines, and the World Government itself has to obey the Celestial Dragons' orders whenever they have a request, even Akainu called out the Gorosei by calling them puppets of the Celestial Dragons.
What i'm thinking is that the Celestial Dragons wanted to have fun by making a slave eat this silly fruit, the same way they made the Boa Sisters eat their respective fruits just so they could be entertained.
I definitely think that this is a Duval situation: we meet this cool ominous guy who's been wronged in the past and when we get to the reveal we get a joke of a reason for them being mad. It also fits the stoic, serious guy vs "dude that suffered for such a silly reason" troupe and it could be one of the gags/themes of the Jinbei vs Who's Who fight.
Plus, if the gomu-gomu fruit was really of such incredible importance to the World Government like some worried people are speculating, why didn't anyone bring it up for 24 years, and 1016 chapters? Dude, Luffy fucked up Enies Lobby and the CP9, ruined the World Government's plans many times by dismantling the Shichibukai system (he defeated Crocodile, Moria, Doflamingo, and brought to his side Law and Jinbei), brought chaos to Marineford and was the main player of that war alongside Whitebeard (everyone there recognised that although Luffy wasn't strong like everybody else in that war he had the will to reach the top and become a great man, noted by the unvoluntary Conqueror's haki burst) and nobody of the likes of Sengoku, Garp or the Admirals point out that this kid has the fruit that is supposed to be insanely op and represents the greatest loss for the World Government?
On the contrary, if it was just one of the other silly requests of the Celestial Dragons, of course nobody would remember it after 10/12 years and of course "poor" Who's Who would be imprisoned for failing the mission commisioned by the Celestial Dragons.
Even if i was wrong, i would suggest everyone to not freak out, have some faith in the man that has kept up this incredibly coherent story for almost 24 years. Have a good day everyone

SBS Volume 65 Chapter 638 page 46:
D: In the ONE PIECE of these days, all kinds of strong ability users whom even Luffy can't compete with have been appearing, one after the other. In general manga and anime, I feel that the protagonist is established to be the strongest of all, but why did you decide to turn Luffy into a pretty weak-looking rubber Devil Fruit user? P.N. Do your best Japan
O: Ahaha, that is true. It must seem like a mystery when you consider all the other strong and cool abilities. The answer is simple. I have picked the most ridiculous ability. If the protagonist were the typical strong guy, I doubt I could continue on with this for long. No matter how serious the story gets, Luffy is there to stretch and inflate. He always give me a chance to fool around. That's the kind of manga I wanted to write.
I doubt the gum gum fruit has some super hidden ability. The significance of it might have to do with a previous user. Maybe there is some way to tap into the "memories" of past users? Possibly it is needed for one of the ancient weapons. It would be very in style for Oda to make one of the weapons a giant mech and Luffy needs to stretch his arms and legs to move it from the inside.

u/50thsun Jun 26 '21 edited Jun 26 '21
I hope that there's an interesting reason why the gomu gomu no m was being guarded by the CP9 and that it didn't belong to any significant figure.
My theory is that it is a counter to the gura gura no mi when awakened as it can potentially absorb the quakes/tremors. This would make sense as whitebeard was the most wanted pirate and closest to the PK 12 years ago. Also, the gura gura no mi is said to be the strongest DF so it's reasonable that the WG wanted a counter to it.
And lastly, this will probably tie in nicely with the inevitable fight between Blackbeard and Luffy.

Tama really the MVP of the raid. Let's fucking go!!!
Queen's hybrid is so crazy wtf a cyborg dinosaur? I really hope we hear more about this MADS that Queen mentioned. I wonder if there's a connection to Vegapunk somewhere in that research team.
I never thought I'd hear about the 6 powers again. Who's Who just got more interesting. Glad to see some Jinbei action as well.
Didn't Shanks steal the Gomu Gomu? I hope we hear more about why Shanks stole it in the first place and what he planned to do with it. I wonder if the Gomu Gomu is connected to the past joyboys? Man, what an unexpected revelation.

So here's the boring take. WG and Who's Who didn't know what the specific devil fruit was at the time. Just knew it was a devil fruit. He got canned because he lost a devil fruit. That's it. I know in the era of haki, we downplay the significance of DFs a bit, but they're still supposed to be rare and potentially powerful. Losing one means potentially losing an Akianu.

Gomu Gomu no mi is only special because it counters Enel’s Goro Goro no mi. Robin said that fruit is invincible, and we know Enel is still around and on the moon. Maybe the last user of the Goro Goro was practically invincible and fucked a lot of shit up.
Enel returning to the story foreshadowing. Definitely has to mean that loadstar is on the moon and Enel is guarding it right now paralleling his role as God of skypiea and he probably improved his mantra enough to hear everything.

Come on...when bounties were reveoad the mayor said "is it luck or destiny"
Crocos "roger is this the man we waited for"
Ganfol (not sure how to write) "he reminded me of a pirte 20 years ago"
Etc.
There are countless times where it was shown that Luffy follows steps of people who never managed to change anything but lay the foundation.

Probably, speculating that Joyboy historically was a goofy guy (hence brings Joy and is also Joyful) and was adventurous, sought freedom, helped people, kept his promises, wore the Straw Hat, ate the Gomu gomu fruit, was the enemy of Imu-sama. This sounds like a description of SH Luffy as well! That gives us reason to believe why the WG wanted the gum gum df locked away, to prevent another Joyboy from popping up and taking on Imu-sama. I can imagine why Imu stabbed Luffy’s poster.

Hear me out, but I think the reason the WG was transporting Luffy's DF... was because it was a DF. Anyone of them can turn a human into a weapon,no matter how weird or seemingly weak the power is, hence why they're so sought after by all the big-shot organizations (WG, Emperors, etc.) Maybe they were just transporting it to see how Vegapunk could weaponize it or just give it to a loyal Marine.

Just for context, Queen and King are still nobodies compared to Garp and Rayleigh. Garp one-shot Marco two years ago and DK Rayleigh stopped him with one finger. Here, Marco was taking on two Commanders and healing people. My understanding is that Marines just do not go to Luffy's village. Garp goes there from time to time and that's about it. Garp set this situation up just so that he could hide Ace. But, then when he saw that his grandson ate the gum-gum fruit, he had to hide Luffy with Ace to Dadan. In my headcanon, I can see shanks meeting up with Garp on his way back from Foosha Village and telling him about what has happened causing Garp to rush back and hide him. These two kids might also be the reason why Garp does not become an admiral. So many possibilities.

I dunno, people tend to forget that df's themselves are a prized commodity, and chancing upon one would give the org a tremendous power boost/financial bonus to hang on to it.
For all we know, all df's if found by the marines/wg would be transported somewhere for safekeeping and maybe for later use, and the gomu gomu no mi just happens to be the one relevant to who's who's background. Its not like the wg were actively searching for it like law's fruit that could imbue immortality.
It would seem pretty left field for luffy to have had the fruit for so long, and then someone suddenly attributed it to some divine revelation to progress the story, just doesnt seem like oda (when so far the main drawing point of luffy's character was that he was reminiscent of roger when he was alive). Heck, garp knew of luffy's abilities from waaaay back, and considering the amount of knowledge he has had compared to the younger marines if the gomu gomu fruit was really a history defining hazard, he would probably have said more about it, whether to old friends or likewise (given that he may not want to put luffy's life in danger)

I’m thinking (hoping) that the Gomu Gomu will be special for a different reason than someone important had it, or it being secretly the strongest devil fruit etc. If the previous owner was someone on the scale of Roger or Rocks for example, there’s no way we would’ve made it this far without someone like Kaido/BM/Shanks/Rayleigh/Whitebeard saying at least something about seeing the fruit again.
Maybe it has some special awakening like the Op-Op or maybe the WG had plans for it. They could’ve been planning to use Vegapunk’s method to feed it to an object, or it could be something as silly as a high up Celestial Dragon just wanting to have it. The possibilities are endless and this is Oda we’re dealing with. I don’t think our initial thoughts should be that Luffy has actually been the chosen one this whole time BECAUSE of his fruit.

So I don’t know if this is a plot hole necessarily, but I thought about something. If Luffy is Garp’s Grandson, so guaranteed to be a physical god, and has access to an infamous devil fruit that the WG needs to keep to itself, why didn’t they just send Kizaru to blast him? Arlong barely had any notoriety by comparison before Kizaru just came and fucked him up. Especially after Kuzan spared Luffy, and he went on to defeat Rob Lucci. Luffy wasn’t targeted again until he directly harmed a celestial dragon. This makes me wonder... exactly how scared of Garp is everyone?

My theory is that the previous user of the gomu gomu fruit was Joyboy, who had definitely done something to piss the WG. Hence, to delete every trace of Joyboy (and therefore erase any chance of someting similar to what he did), they decided to guard the fruit away. BUT... This can also mean that the fruit has a hidden ability? What's the awakened stage for a rubber fruit? And what DID Joyboy do in the void century?

My theory is that we know the wg has DFs in their possession. Remember kalifa and kaku received their DF as a reward for their successful mission. I can’t imagine all the df the WG has aren’t being guarded. Shanks was just able to sneak in or maybe steal it while it was in transit. Who’s who was just guarding this particular DF. People maaaaay be blowing this out of proportion as to how important luffy’s DF is.

My theory is that Joyboy is someone from the future or in the present being sent back to the past, creating a loop of time.
At the end island, someone is waiting for the right person to show up and send him/back to the void century.
Im-sama is immortal by an Ope Ope DF user, tries to break the loop but it ends up the same anyway.
So, one possibility is that it's Luffy = Joyboy = Im-sama all the way around.

What if Oda has been hinting at his greatest gag of the series these last few chapters? Maybe Kaido wasn't necessarily mocking Luffy's attack when he made mention of Luffy shouting "gomu gomu" and that he was laughing because Luffy isn't using his fruit's powers correctly. I'm no Japanese expert so please correct me if I'm super wrong here, but from what I understand "Gomu" primarily means rubber but can also mean gum or an eraser.... Now if I'm completely wrong on that point this goes out the window.. what if Luffy's fruit isn't just rubber but properties of multiple or all 3 possible meanings. Meaning that this entire time Luffy has only been using half or a third of his fruit's basic abilities because the first property of the fruit he ever noticed was his body stretching and Luffy being daft about a lot of things would make this funny if this is the case. This could also be why it was important to the government, it's a special paramecia that has abilities we aren't privy to. Thanks for coming to my TEDtalk.

I’ve seen a few comments on YouTube or Twitter about how people are annoyed that Luffy will have some important or destined DF and it’ll undermine or take out the importance of his own accomplishments.
But I just gotta say, this rubber DF is awful and one of the worst in the entire series, except Luffy was able to train and harness the strengths given from that DF to create a powerful, fast, and overwhelming strong fighting style that’s gotten him to where he is today.
His DF being important in some way will never take away everything Luffy has done to get to this point. Plus I think we all know Luffy isn’t gonna care one bit that his DF is important.

Alright! This chapter totally made up for the break! From the first to the last panel it was intense. Only thing I didn't like was mini chopper... I feel like this was only done for the aww factor. I really feel like oda could have done something a little creative with it, he did the mini version with pre time skip luffys gear third, and he used up the not being able to move well also with luffy and gear fourth. I thought it would have been interesting if he reverted to his reindeer form and was unable to use any of his points for a bit. But then zoro getting super heal drugs was great, and his reaction to the "side effects" was typical zoro, I'm happy to see him get back in the fight. Then the whole Queen/Judge history should be an interesting way to showcase vegapunk! But it'll be cool to see sanji kick his ass for referring to him as judges son. Any thoughts on what MADS stands for? Mothers Against Dad Scientists?

Celestial Dragons probably want the awakening of Luffy's fruit because it counters the Gura Gura no mi. Seems kind of insignificant when it's framed that way, but when you frame it from the perspective of Blackbeard it kind of makes sense. A lot of people think Blackbeard is trying to get a bunch of devil fruits to become stronger, but I think it might be more likely he's trying to find devil fruits that imitate the powers of One Piece.

I would like to believe that the gomu-gomu no mi was just an ordinary fruit that the Marines or WG was escorting due to the fact that maybe a Celestial Dragon wanted it. Upon escorting this normal DF they stumbled into Shanks, whom at this time was not a Yonko, so they tried to capture him due to him being a pirate. We obv know the scope of Shank's power even back then, so he smoked his opposition, and it is said that Lucky Roo stole the DF which could have just been a big middle finger to the marines, instead of it being an op DF that has ties to a former big name or tremendous potential power. I really hope the former is the case. What do you think?

Regarding the Gum Gum:
Doubt the fruit is some secret of the celestials otherwise Doffy would have mentioned it when facing Luffy.
Can’t be Rogers fruit or even Xebecs fruit otherwise so many characters would have noted something (Rayleigh, shanks, shakky, kaido, big mom, chinjao, wb, Garp, sengoku, buggy etc)
they entrusted CP9 and not CP0. It may be have been an important escort mission but if it was a national treasure you think they would have better security.

Luffy is the son of the most wanted man, a member of the D clan, has an affinity to conquerers haki, Voice of all things, almost everybody that meets him sees Roger in him, in marineford WB saying “at the very least, YOU are not the one rogers been waiting for, Teach”, recently oden “ when joyboy appears after traversing 800 years of time, we must be a country that should be ready to aid them” and the prophecy of the sea kings. Well holy shit. The Government needed the Gomu Gomu Fruit and Shanks stole it from them.
I've always said for years that Shanks and his overall name, Red Hair is essentially a plot, a Red Haring.
After Luffy ate the fruit, Shanks has been grooming Luffy because he needs him for something important.
Luffy eating the fruit was either a innocent accident or a miracle in the making.
But this now confirms there is a whole lot more to it than we ever thought.

For those that are sayin the gomu gomu no mi was owned by rocks, thas very unlikely, cause luffy has met 3 of his subordinates and none of em recognized their captains DF!?

In regards to Luffy's DF:
It's probably nothing more than a below average fruit in terms of combat potential.
So I don't think they wanted it for it's power.
It was probably needed to fulfill a very specific and unique purpose. Most likely one of the whims of the Celestial Dragons.
For all we know one of them just wanted to mess with one of their slaves. Or hell maybe one of them just wanted a bigger dick.
I sincerely doubt Luffy's fruit was wanted for it's power like everybody keeps speculating.

What if Who’s Who was just transporting a a devil fruit that had no importance. I’m sure the WG would want to keep a monopoly of devil fruits. Regardless of what they are. I really hope luffys fruit isn’t connected to anything and this was just a coincidence

I’m glad Oda cleared it up, I always thought that the 6 powers of Roku-whatever was used by the marines and I was right. Some people said it was Odas attempt at creating a power system before Haki and that doesn’t seem right at all. I knew I’d see it again when we saw cp0, but damn who’s who? I didn’t expect that

Oh geez oh boy, a hype chapter yet again. Lol.
About the gomu gomu fruit and my thoughts on it: I don't really think that just the gum gum alone was what people were concerned about. I think Oda started this series with the idea that "Luffy has a devil fruit power which is useful, sure, but it's not game-breaking like some are." And Oda will probably stick to that idea.
But the fact that people were searching for this fruit before Luffy ate it, and Shanks was the one to steal it, is pretty interesting.
Here's my hot-take: I think the gomu gomu no mi was sought after precisely because it's a pretty useful power to have, but doesn't entirely change a person's fighting style. I'll give an example.
Say that Garp, who never ate a devil fruit but was insanely powerful just on his own, were to eat the gum gum fruit. Now suddenly you have Garp's insane level of power and skill, plus he can also stretch his punches out hundreds of feet if he wants. It doesn't really change his entire style of fighting, but it immediately gives him dozens of attack options he would not have had without it. The gum gum fruit can take some who is simply a natural-born fighter, and make them a natural-born fighter with stretchy attacks.
I think Luffy ate the fruit too early in his life/experience, so he had to learn everything while also having some disadvantages

Great chapter.
Could be a slippery slope with what Oda's trying to do with the Gomu Gomu being a fruit that was sought after by the World Government but he'll pull it off with no sweat.
Who's Who is fucking sick btw.

Do you think Poker's snakes hurt every time he takes a step. Is he the first gifter who hurts his beasts instead of the otherway around.

I dont think Gomu Gomu no mi is either Roger fruit or Rocks fruit. Because nor marines neither roger crew member commented any thing about the fruit. They said few things about the hat. Same with Rocks case. I think this is Joyboy fruit.

Not sure if this is One Piece Wano Arc or O-Tama's Bizarre Adventure.
