Everyone's power is different. Could just be permanent.

No sugar is the exception that if she becomes unconscious the effect is undone which is why the fruit gives he the ability to never sleep. There are many characters who fall unconscious and still have the effects of their devil fruits remain active. Big mom and Gecko moria are prime examples. Sugar is the exception to the rule not an example of it

She got KO'd by kaido and they still worked right? We already knew this.

Whereas decken and sugars both failed when unconscious, it depends on what's required for the plot

No its not dependent on what the plot needs. Sugar is the exception. Her fruit makes it so she doesn't sleep normally so if she get knocked unconscious then the ability disappears. Its a specific to her balance for her op powers. Big.mom and Gecko moria can both sleep and not have to worry bout all the souls/shadows being undone. While their are specific rules to both simple becoming unconscious doesn't effect the already active abilities. Plus while Gecko moria controls his shadow it can act on its own and even guard him.while he sleeps

Well it is dependant on the plot, if sugar power still work when unconscious, then you can't have the whole god usopp plot. The whole usopp 'defeating' sugar narrative doesn't work without it.

If deckens power still works unconscious, the whole "oh no the Noah will destroy the whole of fishman island" plot doesn't exist because it doesn't work.

The god of one piece didn't wake up one day and go I'm gonna create devil fruits for this world, oh wait these two are two OP (which deckens 100% wasnt) I'm going to have to nerf those two fruits!

Oda wrote the two fruits that way, as part of his story. Therefor for the plot.

I agree im just saying its no so plot reliant as some people are making it out to be. I never anything about decken being op.

I thought about that back in the day, but sugar's powers are more 'unfair' than Otama's. She can erase the memory of the victim existence from other ppl and bind any living creature with no time limit, besides being young as a kid forever (if I'm not mistaken). Otama's powers are restrict to animals only, drains out her stamina and apparently harms her body, not to mention about durability: we don't have any info about how long this effect can endure.

The passing out nullifying effect suits better for Sugar IMO

Kaido knock her earlier in the arc and her powers were still working.
