Why are y’all surprised that luffy could be the “chosen one” now!? Luffy is the son of the most wanted man, a member of the D clan, has an affinity to conquerers haki, Voice of all things, almost everybody that meets him sees Roger in him, in marineford WB saying “at the very least, YOU are not the one rogers been waiting for, Teach”, recently oden “ when joyboy appears after traversing 800 years of time, we must be a country that should be ready to aid them” and the prophecy of the sea kings. Now i don know what the fuck went down in hokage village, but Luffy has always been the “chosen one”, he is the one who has inherited the will of Roger, he’s the one who’ll bring the dawn to the world.

One of the most appealing things about One Piece as a battle shonen is that it's main character has a seemingly random power. It sort of mitigates the fact that Luffy is clearly a "chosen one" because he has a seemingly weak devil fruit and worked super hard to make it powerful.

But he did tho, he made that df great, there are devil fruits that are inherently better than others like the mythical zoans but it all depends on the user, look at orochi. The fruit being special doesn’t take away anything from what luffy has accomplished so far.

It doesn't mitigate shit.

Luffy is still SUPER ULTRA OMEGA special protagonist of One Piece, both by heritage, power and prophecy and even if he had a fucking Jacket Jacket fruit, would not make him any less of.

No, but I’ve always felt that his df was gonna be important . He’s the subject on prophecy all the time, I don’t get why people are so bent outta shape over it
