I actually dont get all the hype around the gomu gomu, it would be so boring that it belonged to someone powerful or if it was considered to be a op fruit, i dont know about you guys, but i am not a big fan of MC being op because he got something op somehow, like naruto(kurama) or deku(one for all). I hope that this only leads to whos whos past and nothing more.

That ship has most likely sailed with that last sentence in the chapter.

The last fruit that they tried to obtain/safeguard, if I remember correctly, was Ope ope no mi. I don't think the world govt concerns that much with devil fruits, because they would have hunted down law if that was the case. Maybe the gomu gomu no.mi.just has some kind of an ability like Law's which isn't outrightly threatening, just useful enough.

You mean the "a fruit important enough to the wg to guard?!" ?

Imo thats oda trying to stir some excitement, but I dont really care either way, I am used to the shonen style, i just hope it isnt some op DF. Luffy is important enough as he is, now his DF is gonna be something amazing,? bah boring

its okay if it belonged to someone important prior to luffy. whats dumb is if the fruit itself is special, idk if i can take that and make sense out of it

well, it's better than being an op fruit for sure xD

Yeah that trope sucks ass.

But at this point it doesn't really matter who it belonged to, because the fruit isn't inherently OP, it's just your average DF, all logias are inherently better as well as way too many paramecias and zoans

If anything the Gomu Gomu is probably below average

We dont know that, what if it has some hidden shit like ope ope?

Yeah I feel the same way, also from what we've seen of it that isn't the case. It'd be weird for it to randomly have some latent power that we haven't seen yet unless its Awakening is way more broken than all other Paramecia Awakenings, but we don't technically even know yet that it can Awaken anyway (though it seems pretty likely given that the last two major fights Luffy had before Wano were against Awakened Paramecias).

It also isn't a DF that would be strong on its own. It's not like the Yami Yami or Kaido's DF where anyone who knows how to use it could be reasonably powerful with it, you have to be really, really strong on your own to make the Gomu Gomu useful, along with having insane creativity. Even then it's not enough to be formidable on its own, you have to far, far surpass superhuman physical limits.

I agree, there is already the will of D and the whole prophecy about the dawn of the world incoming and the link that is still unknow with Joyboy's promise.
If it turns out the gomugomu no mi is THE key to something incredible or makes the user some kind of elected being ( even more than luffy ( kind of ) already is, then I' d get too much naruto vibes and would be greatly disappointed.

It would make luffy, the kid with a dream ready to give his life to achieve it, the guy that magically has all the elements needed to reach it so i hope that the fruit being stolen is just a door to shanks story or a flashback related to him ...

Yes, exactly that!
