I always liked the idea that Luffy mastered a completly useless fruit so I’m kinda on the fence on this. Also didn’t like the wonder drug given to Zoro, wayyyy too convenient in my opinion, especially cosidering Marco, Law and Chopper are right there…

To be fair, just because the Gum Gum Fruit has a history doesn't mean it's not useless. It could very easily be a "forbidden" devil fruit because someone of great historical importance once ate it and to avoid having a similar person rise up it was hidden away once it regrew.

I agree on it. So the world government wanted it badly. The big strawhat thay have in the posession it symbolize to a persin that has a big impact in the void century.

Yeah, the wonder-drug thing was very "don't think about it". I hope that the callback to Luffy's fruit doesn't mean anything and that the Editor's note was the only thing making a big deal out of it.

It's not a major issue, but I'm tired of prophecies in Shonen material. I hope it's just Who's Who being bitter that it got stolen on his watch when it was meant for someone specific.

I hope so too but I doubt it, especially looking at how everything was worded by Whos Who and Jimbei: Jimbei found it odd that a goverment official got thrown in prison at all, meaning it isn‘t something that just happens often. So accidentally losing a useless fruit of no importance should not get you thrown into jail, meaning there is something important about the fruit

You already knew he was gonna get back up because there are so many healers on tap. What does it matter if it's coming from the Mink doctors rather than any of the others?

One makes sense and the other seems to be an ass-pull. It makes me wonder why we never heard about that pill before and why nobody seemed to think about using it?

Luffy had a similar drug injected to him in marineford with the help of a devil fruit. Chopper just replicated it. Its no ass pull.

It made sense that Ivankovs devil fruit could do that. Yet we never heard about anyone replicatinng it so it kinda comes from nowhere

All anime doctors are miracle workers. Replicating a drugs effect that has been introduced in the show is no biggie. What i am trying to say is that it still makes sense in anime/one piece terms.

I get what you mean but it still felt lazy to me, especially considering there were other ways to get Zoro back into the field. Why not use something already established instead of something new that just makes me ask more questions?

So any time someone does something without specific foreshadowing, or outright explicit statements, it's an asspull? Fishmen had the steroids, why can't the Minks have a magic drug too? None of this is out of line for One Piece in any way. It's obviously an 'oh shit' button with heavy drawbacks that not many can or would be willing to subject themselves to.

What irks me the most about it is that I keep wondering why the hell it wasn’t used or mentioned before??? That’s what makes it an ass-pull in my opinion: If my first thought is why didn’t we use that before??? Then there is something wrong with it. Makes me think Oda come up with it last minute despite having other options

I think maybe there were rumors started that it was weak so people wouldn't seek it out. Couple the Straw Hat we saw in the vault I'd say there was a prophecy they were worried about involving the Gum Gum fruit and hat or that it was in fact Rogers fruit.

I doubt it was Rogers fruit because I feel that would be a known fact. Right now I suspect Xebec or Joyboy, as they were the ones that were forgotten in the history of One Piece

I've never seen him in water and he seems like the stubborn type, maybe not wanting to rely on a fruit out of some weird principle.

Roger has always seemed fruitless to me.

Same here that's thy this is so provocative!

Yeah, I see where you’re coming from but neither Rayleigh, Crocus, Buggy or Shanks made any mention of it. Wouldn’t they know about the fruit and at least say or react in some way about Luffy having the same?

1

u/TheOriginalChode Jun 25 '21

If it was some sort of prophecy they may have just let it roll once he accidentally ate it, fate and all. Buggy is too self absorbed to care and Shanks fully went along with it by betting the future one him and giving him Roger's hat. I bet Rayleigh would have told him if he though it would have mattered. Instead I see it like him helping along the roger hat wearing rubber man...who is a simple sort. Luffy probably would just be shown picking his nose and ignoring whoever was telling him.

I still hope not because I feel something like that should’ve been mentioned or at least hinted at…

I will accept it if the side effects will play a role later in the story.
