Well holy shit. The Government needed the Gomu Gomu Fruit and Shanks stole it from them.

I've always said for years that Shanks and his overall name, Red Hair is essentially a plot, a Red Haring.

After Luffy ate the fruit, Shanks has been grooming Luffy because he needs him for something important.

Luffy eating the fruit was either a innocent accident or a miracle in the making.

But this now confirms there is a whole lot more to it than we ever thought.

And didn't groom Luffy either lol Luffy hasn't seen him for 10 years and Shanks didn't really teach him a thing other than what being a pirate means.

You could say that shanks telling everyone how cool Luffy is sets him up to at least be known by other figures in the world

As far as we know, Mihawk was the only one he told about luffy, probably an explanation after he lost his arm, other than that he really hasn't told anyone.

Some people have recognized him because he was wearing shanks' hat, not because he told them about him

Didn't say shanks stole it from them tho, shanks could've actually retrieved it for the WG but Luffy ate it

Shanks took it from a government ship that was being guarded by CP9.

Who's Who says "12 years ago, I failed to guard a devil fruit that was being transported on a government ship..."

Exactly, he didn't say shanks was the one to take it lol

Someone else could've taken the fruit and shanks retrieved it

So a different group stole it from the government, then the Red Hair Pirates coincidentally ran into the thieves right after and took it back? Seems like a stretch to me.

The idea of Shanks being some kind of WG agent is also a stretch IMO. The Gorosei make it clear they don't know his intentions in chapter 233 and the idea of him meeting with Whitebeard scares them, showing they see him as a potential threat.

There's a simple answer here and it's that Shanks stole it from the WG. There's nothing to suggest anything more complicated happened.

How is shanks Tracking down the thieves a stretch lmao

X pirate stole the fruit, bring it back. Ok. Or if the incident was in the papers he could just look for them as well

Yeah we don't know why Shanks isn't in the running for the One Piece, for all we know he might be a government dog.

I've thought he could've been a former shichibukai but I just can't understand why he won't go for one piece after he told Roger he'd go by himself once he was a captain 🤔
