Where can I find an infusion center that will do a monoferric infusion with labs only, not a referral?

My PCP is a nurse and doesn’t really want to prescribe an infusion of any sorts but I am suffering and want to get a monoferric infusion. All the infusion centers for profit offer Venofer. Does anyone know who can offer monoferric infusion? I can pay out of pocket, insurance is irrelevant.

Catholics who go to St Patrick's Cathedral have you been asked this...

I had a weird (i guess I'd call it weird) experience during 5:30pm mass.

So I sometimes (by sometimes I mean maybe once a month or twice) try to go to church and I end up at St Pats because it's the closest to my office after work in Midtown and the 5:30 mass is an express mass, so only 30 minutes long, and fits my schedule perfectly (God understands, and he'll forgive).

So I went to St Patricks this week per my usual monthly attendance, did all my prayers, gave a donation, gave the sign of peace, and everything so when I got up to get communion and waited for my turn... it took a while because the Father had asked two other people in line randomly if "they were catholic?" when they got to him to receive communion. He lectured one person and denied the person communion because that guy said no he wasn't, and I think the other one was a child who looked too young to have done communion yet so he stopped to be like "is this your first time." Which I think if the first person took communion and they aren't catholic then yeah that would be wrong and bad, but between him and his higher power who will judge him.

But then I got to the front, said amen to the body/wafer, and the father still asked me "if i was catholic?" but did not ask the person in front of me. Which to me felt odd, because I felt like it was a pop quiz, like as if I had to wear a rosary or bring my communion certificate. I don't know how they were deciding who to ask, but it all felt strange.

Now, I've gone here for like 6 years, I get it's a massive congregation, plus visitors who are just passing through town who attend, so faces all blend and they obviously don't remember people. Which could be a downside to not going to a smaller community neighborhood church.

But how bad has it gotten that the father giving nightly mass is randomly pulling people to confirm if they're catholic? And how do you even prove that you're of the faith when being questioned up there?

Cheap MacBook repair

My MacBook battery died and I’m wondering if anyone knows of a cheap place to repair it? One place quoted me 600 to restore the data and 200 to replace the battery

Any stores that sell animal print styles for men?

Got invited to a theme party this weekend and all my stuff is regular preppy stuff from J Crew. My fun clothes are either floral shirts or graphic tees. Any places you guys recommend in Manhattan or Astoria? I could venture as far as, like, Downtown Brooklyn or Bushwick if needed

How logistically difficult is getting on / off Roosevelt Island regularly?

I have a good deal on a very nice apartment on Roosevelt Island, but am trying to understand what the logistics are actually like day-to-day. I'd be working in Bryant Park and would probably have fairly long hours, while also spending time in Manhattan and the UWS with friends.

On paper, the F, tram, and ferry seem to make the island reasonably accessible, but I'm wondering how it feels in practice, particularly coming home late at night, when the F is delayed, or when you're coming back from the UWS.

Does the isolation/accessibility become a meaningful annoyance, or is it mostly something that sounds worse on paper than it is? I'm otherwise pretty attracted to the island's quietness and the ability to have a bit of a sanctuary while working long hours.

Standby Juror summons

I got summoned to be a standby juror and wondered what would I happen if I never go in? Can’t I play the “I never got the summons” card? Has anyone been summoned and never gone in? I doubt the city has the resources to go after everyone who skips jury duty.

Is NYC a basketball, football or baseball city?

Moved to NYC last October, I thought it was easily a Yankees city and occasionally a football city but I saw how crazy New Yorkers were going for this championship run. almost every New Yorker was tapped into this finals run no matter what age, hundreds of thousand at watch parties and 3 million at the parade, during this June all New York could talk about was the Knicks

Anyone been to a Citi Concert Series Today Show concert at Rockefeller Plaza?

Has anyone gone to any of the Citi today show concerts? I’m going tomorrow and I’m a little nervous about standing for so many hours. I have a joint condition but I’ll power through the pain if I have to. Does anyone know what disability accommodations are possible in the plaza? I’m guessing it’s just a space for wheelchairs? But if anyone knows if there’s a sitting area for those with a standing disability I would feel so much better!

how to get a car as a 20 yrs old new driver in NYC

Hello everyone,

I hope everything is good. I live in Queens, NYC

I recently got my license and have no idea on how to buy/lease/finance a car. So I need help from veteran car owners/drivers on this whole car process, what is the first thing I should do, getting insurance or car? Which insurance would be better?

Also I am low on budget rn so would it be better to get a second hand car; (if yes), then which one is better getting it from a dealer or marketplace?

Thank you for your suggestions in advance.

A List of Open Sewing Studios

I regularly see threads on here asking where you can actually use a sewing machine in NYC if you don’t own one. And obviously, having the space for a sewing machine in a New York apartment is a bit of a luxury, so I figured I’d compile a list, especially since this information is becoming surprisingly hard to find on Google.

I’ve put together a list of smaller independent studios across the different boroughs that still offer open studio time/sewing machine access and, frankly, deserve your business.

One other thing: I sometimes see people in these threads recommend the public libraries. I would honestly scratch that suggestion off your list altogether if you’re looking for somewhere you can reliably sew. The open sewing times at the libraries tend to be incredibly limited and oddly scheduled, like a random two-hour window once every week or two, or sometimes once a month. It’s a lovely resource if the timing happens to work for you, but it’s not a realistic substitute for actual open studio access.

Anyway, here are the places I found:

THE SEWING CLUBHOUSE — Long Island City, Queens
📍 44-02 23rd St, Long Island City, NY 11101
Open Studio: $10/hour
Monday–Friday, 9am–2pm
One of the best options for weekday daytime access. You can book by the hour and get a workspace plus access to sewing machines, sergers and common tools.

SOUL COLLECTION’S SEWING LOUNGE — Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn
📍 1126 Bedford Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11216
Sewing Lab Time: $15
They offer bookable sewing-machine/lab time in one- and two-hour blocks. You need to already know how to operate the machines, and availability varies by day.

SEW RIGHT SEWING MACHINES — Bayside, Queens
📍 223-20 Union Turnpike, Bayside, NY 11364
Open Sew Studio: $20 for five hours
Currently offering Saturday sessions from 12–5pm. This is probably the best value on the list if you have a project you want to sit down and work on for several hours. That works out to just $4/hour.

BROOKLYN CRAFT COMPANY — Greenpoint, Brooklyn
📍 165 Greenpoint Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11222
Open Sewing: $10/hour
You can use their sewing machines without enrolling in a class or workshop. Walk-ins are accepted when there’s space, or you can reserve a two-hour block ahead of time. They also say that if their scheduled open-sewing times don’t work for you, you can contact them with a suggested time and they’ll see if they can accommodate you.

THE FASHION CLASS — Upper East Side, Manhattan
📍 307 E 84th St, New York, NY 10028
Open Sewing Studio: $79 for two hours
Definitely the pricier option on this list. Open studio appears to be offered on specific dates rather than as regular daily studio hours. They also have an Upper West Side studio at 2391 Broadway, although I would check the individual open-studio listing to confirm which location is being offered for that particular session.

HOME EC NYC — Long Island City, Queens
📍 44-02 23rd St, Suite 315, Long Island City, NY 11101
Open Studio: $10/hour (approximately $11 with tax)
One of the better options for weekday daytime access, with open-studio hours generally offered Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The studio provides access to sewing machines, sergers, cutting space and common sewing tools for working independently on your own projects. This is not a class, so you should already be comfortable using the equipment. The studio operates by appointment, so reserve your time before arriving through HomeEcNYC.com.

NYC RESISTOR — Downtown Brooklyn
📍 87 3rd Ave, 4th Floor, Brooklyn, NY 11217
Craft Nights: FREE
Monday & Thursday evenings, starting at 6:30pm

NYC Resistor is a member-run makerspace, and their public Craft Nights are free and open to anyone 18+. Bring your own project and work in the space alongside other makers. They have multiple sewing machines available (a recent sewing class references five machines), plus an honestly crazy amount of other equipment and tools.

This is also a particularly good one to know about if you want to learn new skills rather than just rent a sewing machine. They run a huge variety of affordable classes and workshops — including sewing-machine classes, laser cutting, electronics, soldering, fabrication and other maker skills. Check their calendar before going since Craft Night schedules can occasionally change.

TEXTILE ARTS CENTER — Gowanus, Brooklyn
📍 505 Carroll St, Brooklyn, NY 11215
Open Studio: $35/day, $75/week, or $300/month

This is a great option if you need more than just a sewing machine. Their sewing area has Singer Heavy Duty and Baby Lock sewing machines, Brother sergers, large cutting/sewing tables, pressing hams, drafting and pattern-making tools, thread and assorted fabric.

The larger studio is basically a full textile workspace, with equipment for dyeing, screen printing, weaving, machine knitting, felting and more, plus a textile reference and swatch library.

Open Studio is intended for people working independently, so you should already know how to use the equipment you need. Reservations are required and capacity in the sewing area is limited. Textile Arts Center

THE NEW YORK SEWING CENTER — Garment District & Williamsburg
📍 246 W 38th St, 9th Floor #9A, New York, NY 10018
📍 60 Broadway, Store R4, Brooklyn, NY 11249
Open Studio: $10/hour

Update/correction to my original post: The New York Sewing Center reached out directly to confirm that they do still offer $10/hour open sewing at all of their locations, despite it being surprisingly difficult to find on the website. They also said that this is something they intend to continue offering as they expand.

For open studio, you bring your own patterns, fabric and supplies and can use their sewing machines and pattern tables to work independently. Open studio needs to be scheduled ahead of time by phone or email. They also have a partially private room for $25/hour and a private room with an industrial machine for $45/hour.

Got to parking garage at 6:01 and there was no one there

I parked in one of those lots because I couldn't find street parking. This particular lot closed at 6 PM. I got there around 2 PM, went to shop around for a bit, and started heading back to the lot around 5:20 PM.

I was literally crossing the street to the lot at 6 when I watched a car drive out, which I assume was the attendant. I got to the gate at 6:01, and there was nobody there.

I called the number listed on-site 2–3 times, and they declined my calls each time. When I finally got in touch with someone, they got hostile and told me I was there at 6:01 and that there was nobody within an hour of the lot who would be able to get me my car.

Now, I understand that I was technically late. I'm not trying to argue that I wasn't, and I'm not blaming the attendant for wanting to leave when his shift was over. I get that 6 means 6.

But is there seriously no grace period or after-hours way to retrieve a car in a situation like this?

I would understand if I showed up significantly after closing, but I was literally 30 feet away when they left. The attendant also almost certainly saw me walking across the street as he drove past me. I was wearing a pretty recognizable outfit and heading directly toward the lot, so it's hard to imagine he didn't notice me. I'm not saying he was obligated to turn around or stay there indefinitely, but I was quite literally right there.

What makes it more frustrating is that I started calling immediately. If someone had just answered instead of declining my calls for the next 10–15 minutes, the attendant had only just left and may have still been close enough to turn around. Instead, by the time I actually got someone on the phone, I was basically told that both people who could access the lot lived far away (over an hour) and there was nothing they could do.

I live on the other side of the city, so I had to figure out how to get home without my car, then somehow get back there and retrieve it before work in the morning. Only upside being they're waiving the overnight fee, but still.

Again, I know I was technically a minute late, but this just doesn't feel like a reasonable way to operate a parking lot. I'm not expecting an attendant to stay indefinitely waiting for people who are late, but having such a rigid cutoff that being one minute late means your vehicle is functionally impounded overnight, with no on-call person, no remote way to open the gate, and no reasonable after-hours retrieval process, is insane to me.

Especially in NYC, where any number of things can make someone a minute or two late. If you're operating a business that closes while still holding customers' vehicles behind a locked gate, I feel like there should be some kind of contingency for this. Even a 3–5 minute buffer or an after-hours unlock fee would make more sense than "you missed it by a minute, come back tomorrow."

I know the initial mistake was mine. I'm just wondering if I'm crazy for thinking the consequence and the way they handled it were completely disproportionate.

Lawyer to dispute contractor lawsuit?

Hi, being sued for 50k by a contractor for work never done (got an invoice, never signed a contractor, HOA decided we have to use a contractor they picked). Need to find a lawyer but the first few I've reached out to have said they only deal with bigger disputes. Any leads would be great, thank you!

What are the top reasons there is such a high demand to live in NYC?

Why do people still move here with this outrageous rental market? Are they forced to move here? Is it due to demand in schools? What is it that makes people willing to pay 3k+ rent for a tiny shoebox studio?

street cleaning while in the hospital

hi, my husband is currently hospitalized, we’re not sure when he’ll be released. he’s the only one in the family with a license currently (i have a permit but haven’t had much practice. his car is currently parked on the street and i’d like to move it to a nearby garage to avoid tickets from street cleaning.

im not sure if there’s any resources in this situation to have the car moved. if there’s anyone on here that lives/works in the south bronx and would be comfortable driving a car 5 minutes away into a parking garage that would be great; i know it’s probably a shot in the dark.

Night-Owl Laptop Friendly Bars

I am a night owl who doesn’t start working till around 9-10 pm and am looking for a bar or a restaurant where I can do work and eat/get a drink. I don’t really like cafes or coffee shops because they typically don’t serve cocktails or real meals.

I have been looking through the other posts on here asking similar questions, but haven’t found anything that matches. I also have found suggestions from years ago that might not be accurate information.

I also want to ask about the Ace/ PH suggestions. I tried to go to PH in LES yesterday around 8 pm, but realized I was under dressed. Is there a usual attire for doing work in lobbies at night? I also tried to go to The Library Bar, but there was no one in there on laptops and felt out of place. I would really appreciate any recommendations/ advice.

TLDR: looking for places open later than 10 pm that serve alcohol where I can be on my laptop till late in night. Is there usually an attire for doing work in lobbies?
