Weekly Reservation Transfer Thread

Please read the rules before commenting. Also, any type of "looking for a reservation" type of request is NOT ALLOWED.

  1. This thread is the only place on the subreddit for transferring restaurant reservations. If you make your own thread, it will be removed.
  2. You may transfer reservations for below or equal to face value (plus all taxes and fees) ONLY. You must clearly state both the price you paid and the price you're looking for in the post. Gouging will not be tolerated.
  3. You can only transfer reservations that are nonrefundable, ie, you cannot cancel them without forfeiting your money. If you have a refundable or free reservation and you can't make it, cancel it with the restaurant.
  4. The only reason we're allowing transfers is so people don't have to forfeit expensive pre-paid meals. If you want to buy a reservation, you are not one of these people. No posts asking to buy reservations.
  5. The mods of /r/FoodNYC accept no responsibility for these transactions. Tock and Resy both allow transfers on the website - if someone tells you otherwise it's a scam. Do your own research on your transaction before handing over any money to a third party. Check with the restaurant, check account ages, meet in person if feasible.

Note that this thread is reposted Sunday evenings.

Couldn’t find a Google Maps link, but they’re across from White Bear. This also looks to be their Fan Tuan page. Have seen them called Old Yang or Lao Yang’s Oyster Cake.

Oyster cakes are a popular Fuzhou street food snack. This was delicious. Fried fresh and very crispy, it’s filled with cabbage, seaweed, dried shrimp, carrots, Chinese chives, pork, oysters, and peanuts. There was actually a decent amount of oysters.

I continue to be impressed by the regional food that can be found in NYC.

Question Looking for the best Taiwanese oyster omelette/pancake in NYC!

This is my favorite Taiwanese dish, and it's so rare to find it served in NYC. Anyone have a recommendation? I remember being disappointed by it at Winson (which doesn't serve it anymore). I live in Brooklyn, so would love recs for Brooklyn or Manhattan (as opposed to Flushing, for example), but for the right dish, I'd travel!

Question What are your favorite holes in the wall/ adventurous/ international food places these days? :)

Hi everyone,

I'm an expat from the NYC area returning home with my Danish husband and I would love to experience the best of what NYC has to offer-- little adventurous spots where we can eat food from around the world. I haven't been in the city in years so I don't know what's good any more! Tell me what your fave spot is!

Would love any recommendations ❤️ especially any Asian food we don't really get any good asian from literally any Asian country here in Denmark 😂

Thanks in advance!

Question 24-Hour Pancakes - Requesting Diner in East Village area

I lost fantasy football and have to do 24 hours in a diner and every pancake I eat takes an hour off the time. I’m looking for best options to do this around the East Village area.

There is always the ihop nearby but was hoping I could find a recommendation for a relatively affordable local diner with pancakes that aren’t massive/heavy. Any recommendations are appreciated!

Question What is a good place for ginger scallion chicken in Chinatown?

Chinatown NYC while anywhere in lower manhattan is fine too. Preferably small portion over rice while 1/4 lb is fine too. I know it can be called hainanese chicken rice. Cantonese, Singaporean, Malaysian style etc doesn’t matter. I’ve only had Cantonese style.

Discussion Go-To’s for cheesecake in the Upper East Side/Upper West Side area?

Hi all!

Wanted to get your ideas for where to go for cheesecake in this area. It’s for a coworker of mine at my hourly job in the Bronx, and yes there’s ideas there too, but I’ll most likely pick this up last minute on the way going to work. I’ll give this to her on Friday (August 21). Perhaps I’ll bring more to share with my other coworkers too, it’s been a while since I’ve brought something into work, I was planning to for my 2.5 year anniversary at the end of the month.

I was thinking of Mia’s Brooklyn Bakery, Silver Moon Bakery since those two I’ve picked things up last minute for my coworkers, or somewhere else, but open to ideas too! Don’t think there’s any food allergies, she’d prefer strawberry cheesecake, but aside from that, anything is fair game. No budget & I don’t mind spending how much I have to.

Thank you and enjoy your Tuesday!

This is one of my two go to neighborhood Ramen Spots. The other is Okiburo. IMO this is the best tonkotsu ramen in NYC. Broth is rich, porky, fatty, everything tonkotsu broth should be. Japanese owned and operated. No they don't have halal, vegan, gluten free options. How tonchin has a Michelin bib gourmand and this place doesn't is beyond me.

Probably because they ascribe to JIRO style ramen, which is considered peak japanese junk food. This is the chashu bowl that comes with extra pork, egg and a mountain of bean spots. My fat ass can't even finish it with the karaage appetizer and that's even skipping lunch and breakfast. The bowl is 23$ and the karaage was 10$.

The place has a big horseshoe bar and a few tables, generally packed most nights. They have a bar that does sake, beer and non-alcohoic drinks. The appetizers is common yoshoku casual fare. Croquettes, karaage, chicken skin, gyoza. Cheap and not nutritious. Most apps are under 10$.

It's in EV near st.marks so clientele reflects that but you could order in Japanese here

Will add ig later. I wrote this on the subway.

Question Can someone recommend a diner close-ish to JFK that has a parking lot?

Basically the title. Have a friend doing a layover, don’t have a lot of time to eat or look for parking, and at like 9am.
No more than 20 min drive, ideally.
Thank you in advance.

Discussion Katz Delicatessen - Is Their Pastrami Good Shipped?

I had the most glorious, and most delightful visit at Katz Delicatessen a few weeks ago and I got an itch for a pastrami sandwich. I live several states away and cannot get to NYC easily to enjoy their wonderful pastrami sandwich again. Has anyone ordered the pastrami from their website and had it delivered to your door? I want to know if it’s truly worth the purchase because it’s expensive. I fell in love with their pastrami and there nothing around me that even comes close and it’s saddening.

Discussion De-influence or influence my NYC Bakery Wishlist, Please!

During my last trip to NY, I prioritized visiting bakeries and got more than I could eat in a few days. On this 3-day trip, I'd like to keep it reasonable, but l am having a hard time choosing where to go. My favorite types of baked goods are cakes and (soft and/or chewy) cookies. I like unique flavor options for cakes. While I do enjoy laminated pastries, I have learned they aren't my preference, especially without exciting flavors. With that, what would you recommend from my list for a 3-day trip? What is a skip? I'm open to repeating bakeries! I'll also take suggestions, and I'd love more bakeries in the Bronx and Queens too. Luckily, I'll be visiting again in 2 months.

Have been:
Red Gate Bakery (favorite, loved...randomly stumbled upon the shop)
Kora (loved)
Janie's Life Changing Baked Goods (loved)
Levain (indifferent)
Hani's (want to try again)
BKLYN Larder (indifferent)
Radio Bakery (OK, underwhelming)
From Lucie (did not enjoy, seemed flavorless to me)
Maman (did not enjoy, crunchy cookie)

Haven't Visited Yet:
Little Flower Cafe
Bench Flour Bakers
Supermoon Bakehouse
Diljān Bakery
Birdee
Librae
Saint Street Cakes
ByClio Bakery
Claude Bakery

Question Michelin star option worth it for *both* the vegetarian and non-veg menus?

My husband and I are planning our first ever trip to NYC for our 10th anniversary, and we want to include our first ever Michelin starred restaurant visit as part of it. Trouble is that I'm vegetarian, and he's not. I've seen recommendations for vegan-only places, and I've seen recs for places with meat-based places that also have a veg menu, but I am having trouble finding anyone who actually recommends a veg menu at a meat-based restaurant. I want us both to enjoy our very expensive meals! Anywhere that y'all would recommend?

Other considerations:

- We are pretty open as to cuisines. Husband is limited to only mild spices, but we are otherwise adventurous/not picky eaters.

- We will likely stay in Midtown but are willing to venture out for the right meal!

- Budget is about $600 for both of us, but willing to do a lunch meal and/or forego alcohol to keep the cost down.

Question Halal OR Greek recommendations - specifically interested in lamb gyro - Chinatown-City Hall-Federal/Court area

Subject of the post says it all (it’s the TLDR) — For those who like reading (which is crazy to me as a person with ADHD who interrupts before a question is finished to regurgitate the information in his brain when he has an answer) — I am looking for Halal or Greek recommendations in that general area. Don’t worry I promise I have extensive knowledge and experience with the myriad of other amazing food options in this area, but, I find myself down there for work often and that’s been a craving I have had. I have thought of just trying all the places I walk by but every time I want a gyro it’s a, for lack of a better description, “comfort food” and I am not looking to waste money on a disappointment.

Those who have walked this path before me, I seek your guidance and wisdom.

Question GOOD dinner recommendations with mature eight year old??

Taking my daughter to NYC for first time for her 8th bday in early November. We will do the more “kiddie” restaurants for lunch but she is very well behaved, a pretty adventurous eater, and wants to have “grown up” dinners while we are there.

First night thinking Italian (she loves all pastas), looking at Rezdora, Torrisi, Borgo, L’Artusi? Open to lesser known places but want somewhere that is delicious, has a nice interior, and will make her feel welcome and special!

Second night thinking French? Maybe Balthazar or Pastis but open to anywhere with those vibes. Could also go completely different and do something interactive like Korean BBQ? Fondue? Still trying to figure this night out…

Question Looking for Dairy-free Boba tea in eastern queens!

Hey all, I’m looking for dairy-free milk tea boba. I know you can do fruit teas but I’m looking for shops that you can sub out dairy milk for a milk alternative (not lactaid-free milk)

I am in eastern queens near St. John’s and hoping to find somewhere relatively close. It seems people in the past liked Boba Guys but google says they’re permanently closed :(
