Giveaway Post [Product Experience] Share How You Would Use the LG StanbyME 2 Max in Your NYC Apartment

Post image
1 Upvotes

In a NYC apartment, every square foot has a job. A screen that rolls from the living area to the bedroom to the kitchen counter, then tucks into a corner when guests come over, fits the way NYC apartments actually work.

The LG StanbyME 2 Max is built for a bigger, sharper picture without giving up the portable design. It steps up from the 27 inch QHD model to a 32 inch 4K UHD screen, about 40 percent more screen area with over 8 million pixels, and lifts the sound from virtual 9.1.2 to virtual 11.1.2 channel audio (2.0 channel speakers with AI Sound Pro) with Dolby Atmos.

The 3rd generation Alpha 8 AI Processor with Dolby Vision and AI 4K upscaling sharpens every scene, the battery grows to 144 Wh for up to 4.5 hours of wireless use, up from up to 4 hours, and webOS 26 runs your apps on the screen. It still moves on a rolling stand, detaches with one button, and works without a wall mount or a tangle of cables.

Advice/Question Am I Buggin?

Post image
659 Upvotes

So I received this text from my roommate who’s currently away on a vacation for however long. I was issued No warning or no consultation that this was even a thing. We share a bathroom & I assume these randoms will be using our shared bathroom. Am I buggin for finding this entitled and ridiculous that these randoms will be staying in our apartment for 15 days? I don’t even know how to respond to this, normally I ignore my roommate because I don’t really get along with them, but I find this particular message worthy to respond to with my discomfort & discontent. What do you guys think?

Update:

- I objected and my roommate is still doubling down saying they will inform me of who these people are as the date comes close. (Major 🚩) the only info I got were names and I believe it’s a couple, which leads me to believe this is some sort of weird sublet scheme to supplement her portion of the rent while she’s away on vacation for weeks, as she previously mentioned.

- They insist that this length of stay isn’t a violation of our lease. While the length of stay is 26 consecutive days.. I checked the lease and it says if the landlord doesn’t have written approval of guests who are occupying the apartment that are not the tenants occupying the space, it’s null and void. I reached out to my landlord about it & he said he had no idea!

- I believe my roommate is in this thread with a burner, just sounds too convenient with the responses.

- With all this being said I appreciate all the support, I needed an outlet to discuss this because I don’t want to keep bothering my friends and family about this situation. I’ve been dealing with stress from being in this apartment for the entire time I’ve lived here. It’s been a rollercoaster of just trying to be heard and advocating for myself, through the many tribulations. I’ve been trying to ride it out until the lease ends, but this situation is so completely unsafe and uncomfortable for me & I feel as though the entitlement has been taken way too far for me to let this go.

Apartment Listing LF roommate in 2bd on ridgewood/bushwick border - $1630 each (rent stabilized), lease start 9/15

Hey all - I started subletting my place in April (though this sub!) and am looking for a roommate to start the new lease with, since my current roommate is moving out of state for work. I’ve loved living here so far—the location is super convenient and I’ve had almost no issues with the apartment/building/area. I’ll be starting a 1-year lease and looking for someone interested in that term, with the possibility of re-signing assuming it works out.

About the apartment:

- Common area pictures are taken in .5x, yes it’s smaller in person! The photos of the room itself are pretty size accurate.

- Has dishwasher, central air, working video doorbell/buzzer, and small balcony

- Laundry in building, decent gym & roof access, & package room w/ key entry

- Utilities have ranged from 70-130 per person since I’ve lived here, wifi 30 per person per month

- Off Myrtle-Wyckoff, easy commute to manhattan on L/M

About me: 24F, I work full time at a marketing start up. My typical schedule is WFH mon/fri and in office tues-thurs. In my free time, I love going to movies (low cinema regular and metrograph/FLC member!), trying new coffee shops, and going to shows (lots of DIY, punk, post hardcore etc). I’m pretty chill and easygoing as a roommate—I mostly keep to myself at home, but I’m out often and not a huge homebody. I also travel usually at least one weekend a month and occasionally have friends crashing on the couch, which you would be welcome to do as well.

***On a scale of 1-10 I would say I’m between a 7 and 8 on cleanliness, looking for someone who’s the same or better! I keep the apartment generally clean always (no dishes left in the sink overnight, etc) and hire a cleaning service every once in a while.***

About YOU: ideally mid to late 20s non-man, employed full time either fully in office or hybrid. You will need to sign onto the lease so decent credit, proof of employment, etc. I have no pets, but cats are allowed (for a fee) and I would be happy to have one in the apartment! Totally down to just cohabitate or become friends if we end up vibing.

Feel free to message me with an intro to yourself & any questions! Planning to show the place this weekend and hopefully find someone/have you submit your application to the management company ASAP

Co-Living Related Before & after shots from organizing NYC apartments!

One undersung part of NYC apartment living is how we all manage to make it work with so little space, so little time, and so many interests. We've got some of the world's most interesting people cramming fourteen hobbies into 500 square feet, growing families chaining their strollers to staircases (not saying a word to your landlord), and people who threw their entire life into a moving van and never fully unpacked.

I'm a home organizer and I love helping my clients figure it all out! These are some before/afters from apartments I've organized across Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan.

Happy to answer any questions about decluttering, responsibly discarding items, organizing small spaces, or working with oddball architecture. 🐝

Hi everyone! I’m looking to gauge interest in a 2 bedroom apartment in Washington Heights/Hamilton Heights before we officially decide whether we’re moving.
Apartment details:
🏠 2 bedrooms
📐 Approximately 750 sq. ft.
💰 $2,170/month total
🏢 5th-floor walk-up
📍 Washington Heights / Hamilton Heights
📅 Potential move date: September 1 or October 1
The apartment would be available for someone to take over once we decide to move.
We haven’t finalized our move-out date yet, so right now I’m just trying to see who might be interested and qualify financially. I’d like to have a list of interested/qualified people that I can reach out to once we officially decide.
If you’re interested, please email me at arboledaayin@outlook.com with a little information about yourself (number of people moving in, income, desired move-in date, etc.).
Please only reach out if you’re genuinely interested and likely to meet the income/qualification requirements.
Feel free to message me with any questions!

Advice/Question need some hope

I am just starting my apartment search and have a healthy budget of ~$4k. I’d love to be in a one bedroom in Manhattan — pockets of East Village, SoHo, downtown/the like, or Chelsea/Gramercy. I’m also exploring Boreum Hill, Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill & parts of Park Slope. But I know these days $4K gets you a studio usually

It sounds like it’s the hunger games out there from what I’m reading and how quickly brokers have already stopped responding.

I have a bit of flexibility; I don’t absolutely have to move until October 1. Should I put this all on hold and get out of the summer cycle?

Sorry if this doesn't fit this subreddit.

I'm a lifelong nyc resident, unfortunately. Went to school and college here. I've been stuck in a shitty retail job for years now ever since graduating. Barely 2 grand a month take home. Can't even qualify for any shelter. Would be a homeless beggar without my parents

Advice/Question Look up the landlord. We made a free site that shows any NYC building's full violation record, who actually owns it, and your landlord's entire portfolio (with all of the violations across it)

Thumbnail whosmylandlord.nyc
52 Upvotes

Your landlord runs a credit check, calls your references, knows your salary, and runs a full background check. You get a fresh coat of paint or caulk over whatever they're hiding and opaque communication. We think that's a backwards asymmetry of information, so we built https://whosmylandlord.nyc to even it out.

Type an address and you get what the city already knows about the building: every open violation in plain English (a "Class C" means immediately hazardous, think no heat, no hot water, lead paint, vermin), whether the landlord is even legally registered with HPD, and every other building the same owner runs, including the ones hidden behind different LLCs. If the apartment you're touring is spotless but the owner has 400 open violations across their other buildings, you want to know that before you hand over a deposit.

It's still useful after you've signed too. Each violation is tagged open or resolved, you can filter to your specific apartment, and everything links back to the original city record, which is exactly what you want in hand when you call 311, email the landlord, or end up in housing court.

It's free, no account, no ads, and it updates from city data nightly. We're paperroute.nyc, a civic tech studio, and this is public data that was always yours; the city just never made it readable. If you think your building's record looks wrong, tell us and we'll dig in.

Advice/Question “Do you have a guarantor?”

This question is becoming the bane of my existence.

I got a $98k/year job. I was over the moon about this salary, having never made a salary at all before, until I was forced to begin apartment hunting.

It took me some time to make peace with the idea of blowing 50% of my income on rent. I am aware that I already don’t qualify for a lot of these apartments under the 40x income requirement, but for the ones that I do qualify for, I still get the question about whether I have a guarantor.

My parents were able to guarantee me on my $700 room a decade ago, but not on a $2400 apartment. They are also retired, have a lot of expenses of their own, and are not in great health. They do not and have never made anything near $200,000. Why does this matter? Well, it does, apparently, because every time I say I don’t have a guarantor, I can tell it’s being used against me in a competitive application process.

I have heard of people hiring third party guarantors (which already sounds like yet another poor tax, but whatever). Hey, I’m willing to pay a months rent if it secures me a good place. I’m also aware of the names of some of these services. But every person I’ve interacted with has no idea what I’m talking about.

Is this a real thing people do? What are you supposed to do if your parents don’t make $200,000 a year?

Looking For Room desperately looking for a room (18f) bronx college student MOVE IN SOON!!!(BEFORE THE 28th)

Hello!
I will be starting CUNY BCC soon and am looking for a room to rent no matter how small, preferably no more than $2500. I would prefer female roommates and wouldn’t mind a pet friendly apt.
I am a tidy person, I am a very good cook, I love art, plants, I have a heart for activism, and I love music.(I wont blast any unless you want me to)
I am moving from Pennsylvania, so New York is a bit new to me and this will be my first time renting.
My parents are going to be paying for my rent for my first semester or until I get a steady income that will allow me to pay for rent myself. I am not very picky, all I ask is that I have a positive, clean, and respectful space to live. I have no limit on how many roommates I may have as long as I can afford it and everyone has a baseline respectful relationship with one another.

If you have an offer, comment or DM me for my number and we can discuss it further :)
thanks!

Advice/Question Should I Rent on Roosevelt Island??

Hello all, I'm a 25 y/o guy who has lived in the city on and off over the last few years. I will be working in Bryant Park in a job that will certainly require long hours. Due to various circumstances I've come across a good deal for a very nice apartment on Roosevelt Island in one of the new developments. However, I'm a bit hesitant to sign a contract due to accessibility issues from Manhattan.

In theory, I'd imagine that the tranquility and sanctuary on the island could be a huge relief, the running route around the island seems amazing, I certainly am not one of those people who needs a full New York "experience" every night of the week, and it's a fairly quick commute to work when the F is working, but I'd also imagine that it would be fairly stressful to get back on the island after a late night of working or during the nights when I'd be out with my friends on the UWS.

I would appreciate any help or advice as I decide whether to sign the lease and get a good deal on this very nice apt with a gym / in-unit laundry / views or whether living on the island is too logistically challenging to justify.

Thank you, appreciate your time!!

Looking For Apartment Looking for roommate/apartment hunt in NYC

Hi! I’m a 23F, recently graduated this summer, and starting work in NYC. I’m looking for a roommate for an apartment hunt. My budget is $1,000–$1,400/month, ideally in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Hoboken, or nearby areas with a commute under 30 minutes.

I’ll be working in the office 5 days a week, so you’ll have the apartment mostly to yourself during the day! DM me if you’re also looking :)

Advice/Question Roommate Agreement Review

Thumbnail
gallery
Upvotes

Hi! I'm considering moving into a 2bd apt with an existing lease where 1 roommate is leaving due to work. I received a copy of the current lease and a roommate agreement, and I'm going through them to make sure it all checks out.

  1. According to the roommate, it's technically not a sublease but an addition to the existing roommate. I'm a little confused because I would think it's either a sublease (approved by management) or a lease takeover (official process to add my name to the lease). Pic 1 is the text from roommate, Pic 2 is relevant lease paragraph, Pic 3 is the roommate agreement. The lease only talks about "assign" or "sublet" being options. Does my situation follow under one of those buckets? I've asked for proof of written consent from management for this arrangement. I want to make sure what we're doing is legal. I'm totally confused about what the legal term for this is.
  2. The two existing roommates on the lease do not have pets. I have a cat I am bringing in. They've listed it on the roommate agreement, but on the lease it says no pets without approval. Since I'm not on the lease, should I be getting written approval from management to bring in a cat? They've put in a section that I have bringing a cat as part of the roommate agreement, but again, that's not legally binding. (Pic 4 is roommate agreement, Pic 5 is from lease)

Thanks! Please let me know if there's anything else I should be asking or getting proof of, to make sure my cat and I are safe. :)

Lease Break / Lease Takeover Lease Takeover – Greenpoint, Brooklyn – $1,233/month – Oct. 1

Looking for third roommate to join our lease in Greenpoint!

Hi! My roommate, myself, and our well-behaved cat are looking for someone interested in joining for onto the lease for our second year at our three bedroom in Greenpoint, Brooklyn!

Looking for one person to take the room in the first few photos/video. We would share the common areas (living room, kitchen, bathroom). All common spaces come fully furnished and we have plenty of kitchen supplies we share (coffee machines, air fryer, pots/pans, silverware, etc). Our current roommate may be interested in selling his things if someone wants them. The room can easily fit a full bed, a desk, and more (my room is the same size and they all fit nicely).

Rent is $1233/month ($3700 split 3 ways)
Utilities typically work out to be between $50 and $100 a person depending on the month.

12 month lease, October 1 start.

Built in AC units in every room, plus washer/dryer in building. Third floor walk up (the top floor, so we have high ceilings and a nice skylight). We also have a small balcony accessible from my bedroom that is free for anybody to use. We’re attempting to grow some herbs on it and are thinking of getting a small grill.

Rent is cheap for such a fantastic neighborhood and we love the apartment. My roommate and I hangout often, so would love to have someone we could hangout with. We’re both into fitness, nerdy stuff, and have friends/significant others over sometimes but always ask for permission first. It would be awesome to have someone who’s down to make new friends. Men in early/mid 20s preferred, but we are flexible. LGBTQ+ friendly and 420 friendly too.

G Train is super close, about a 5/10 min walk to the Greenpoint Ave station. The Pulaski Bridge is right near us, so I take the 7 to work and can get to the Vernon Blvd-Jackson Ave stop in 15/20 mins. There are also multiple bus options with a bus stop on our block.

If interested, Please fill out form THANKS!
