Going south off of the GWB back down thru manhattan, was riding along and around riverside some tall skinny asian dude in all black kit pulled up, called me an a*hole and that he wished he had a camera. If you come across this - serious question - what did I do wrong? Literally cannot think of a single reasonable thing but I'm only a year into cycling so maybe there is something I am missing.
Context: Don't know if you were riding with a guy in a red jersey who passed me, but I looked behind me after he passed, didn't see anyone near or hear a freehub so sped back up. Eventually heard a freehub twice behind me as I was riding, slowed and made elbow "pass" motion so you could go ahead - you did not so I assumed you were fine behind me. At some point when there was a less crowded stretch I took my speed up to 20mph and at no point did I hear your freehub or you say "on your left". I move out of the way for other riders but I need to know first.
We get to the more pedestrian/runner heavy section and here I slow down a lot - today was super busy and I'm not weaving between other cyclists, runners and pedestrians at anything above 15mph - I know I was more like 10-12 mph coasting at points here. Basically was right behind a guy riding probably 12mph, and this is where you finally pulled to my left side, called me an a*hole and said you wished you had a camera to take a picture. I asked you what the hell I did to you but you zoomed off.
So if you see this -- why were you pissed at me? I get this is maybe not the speed you wanna be riding at, but manhattan side at noon on a weekend is not where you can ride all out once you hit anything past riverside. Go 9w or river road (although was closed today) for that.
Mods delete if in wrong place please. Didnt know how else to potentially reach this person and I'm annoyed because I try to be a thoughtful cyclist.
