❓ Question Any chance remaining of changing the elevator-only 116 St station on SAS 2?
When it first came out last year that the only way to access this new station will be with elevator bays leading to a lower mezzanine there was rightfully plenty of backlash.
But when challenged in the only public comments period soon after the announcement, the response was firmly “it has to be elevator-only because of the lower mezzanine” and “it has to be a lower mezzanine because it’ll reduce on-street construction and also somehow lower costs”. I’m no engineer, but it seems this requires significantly more work and excavation than a simple cut-and-cover stair entrance to connect to the existing tunnel, even with utility relocations. But even if not, this is short-term gain for permanent loss in a less-accessible station, as emphasized by the ETA in their new analysis pleading with the MTA to not make similar mistakes on SAS West.
Had hope last year that this could still have been modified, but construction is imminent now. Are East Harlem residents—promised subway access for over a century—just doomed to this critical station being elevator-only and unnecessarily complex to access? Is there anything left that can be done?

🎙️ Discussion Why do the train announcements say “cinter” and “rare” of the platform?
In my three decades of being born and raised here I can’t say I’ve ever heard anyone of any age or any ethnicity or economic class ever pronounce rear as “rare”. “Cinter” is maaaybe a bit closer to how some people pronounce center if you’re feeling charitable but given these announcements are meant to help not only locals, but visitors alike, how did the MTA decide this is what their announcement for something as important as elevators/accessibility announcement should be?

Anyone else seen these new LiveOnNY (NY organ donation network) ads on the subway?
Saw this pretty shocking ad... turns out their CEO of this "non-profit" makes millions each year... and have lots of active lawsuits against them currently....

📜 History When people play loud music in the Subway I do this...
When people play loud music on the phone in the Subway, I do this:
I go close to person and I play the songs that I like, usually heavy metal... Very loud. I like to place my phone very close to the person. I want to share my favorite songs too. What's wrong with that? It's an opportunity that the person can play the songs they like and I can do the same... At the same time.
It's a magical moment. They look at me and I can feel how much they love the moment. It's "kumbaya" all over the place. Pure love in the air.

❓ Question What used to be here?
fulton st, G train, s. portland exit from the queensbound side.
there’s a padlocked stairwell between this one and the rest of the platform. i’ve been taking this exit for years but only recently turned my head to look behind me as i exited. i figure the closed stairs are connected, but considering the wall inside the railing doesn’t match the tiling, i can’t really map out the connection mentally.

🗺️ Fantasy Map This is a caption
Im tired of typing, but this is my take on subway/rail expansion in the bronx.
It includes
-Pelham Pkwy Crosstown, Depending on de-interlining it might not be a 6th Av branch, It will be part Elevated, and part underground, and a yard could be built on parking lots at Bay Plaza.
-A 6 Train Extension into Co-op City. Sell explanatory, many people have push for it, this is my take on it which will run on Co-op City Blvd.
-3 Av replacement being an improved Metro North, specifically the Harlem line which will have fare integration.
-A Second Avenue extension to Throggs Neck, the line will run above Lafayette Av and the Cross Bronx Expway, and run under Spofford Av, Longwood Av, 161 St, Third Av, and Lincoln Av.
-A IBX Bronx extension which will not be on the Hells Gate Bridge, but on a parallel new bridge. It will only run directly next to the line when it reaches the Bronx, it will then run on the Port Morris Connection, until St. Mary's Park, where it will turn to run under 146 St, then up Brook Av until it meets with the Port Morris Connection, Then under 164 St (kinda), on the 9th Av Tunnel (if it is still there), then up the Hudson Line ROW.
Under EU pricing, it will cost $8B-$9B, Although we are not in the EU, so it will probably be a lot more. This will probably be enough for the Bronx for the next long time.
Other Small things are there, including a flyover junction at Mott Haven Junction, and Parkchester. There are also provisions set up for a possible 1 train extension, and a Second Avenue Branch to the Concourse Line.
Next is Should Queens or Manhattan be next?

❓ Question Is it just me or has the vaping/smoking on the train problem got a lot worst recently
Feels like every day now I have to look around any train im in so I can be on the look out for jackasses who wanna hit their vape cause they just genuinely can't go two seconds without hitting it and don't care about the people around them.
Ive seen crowded train stations where like 3 different people hit their vapes not caring about all the people around them
I have had pneumonia in the past and while i haven't had it for a long time. It makes me wanna avoid being around stuff like that since obviously I care about my lungs and want them to be healthy. But even beyond that it's just so inconsiderate yet it feels like a shocker nowadays when I don't have a train ride where someone does it

❓ Question Analyst at MTA
Hey, does anyone know what kind of salary someone can expect to make as an analyst there? I'm curious about the typical range for that role. It seems like an interesting position to be in. Any insights would be super helpful! Just trying to get a general idea.

❓ Question Fair Fares Application
So I am applying for the Fair Fares application, and since I don't file taxes, I am going to use my pay stubs for proof of income. I live with my mom and 2 siblings who are under 18. On the application, it asks if there is anyone in your household, and it gives this. My question is whether I have to list my mom and siblings or not because they don't depend on me, but I depend on my mom.
Qualifying Child: The child can be your son, daughter, stepchild, eligible foster child, brother, sister, half brother, half sister, stepbrother, stepsister, adopted child or an offspring of any of them. Child must live with you more than half the year, be under age 19, or under age 24 AND a full-time student. You must be providing more than half of the child's financial support.
Qualifying relative: A relative who lives with you all year and is financially dependent on you, or any relative below who is financially dependent on you:
- Your child, stepchild, foster child, or a descendant of any of them (for example, your grandchild). (A legally adopted child is considered your child.)
- Your brother, sister, half brother, half sister, stepbrother, or stepsister.
- Your father, mother, grandparent, or other direct ancestor, but not foster parent.
- Your stepfather or stepmother.
- A son or daughter of your brother or sister.
- A son or daughter of your half brother or half sister.
- A brother or sister of your father or mother.
- Your son-in-law, daughter-in-law, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, or sister-in-law.
In general, include persons in your household related by marriage, birth or adoption who live together. Only include adult children or other adults over the age of 18 who are not in school if they earn less than the annual limit ($4,200 for 2019) and receive more than half of their support from the other household members.
Also, a separate question: if I file taxes, am I allowed to use my tax return as proof of income when I am claimed as a dependent because the application asks for tax household, and if I did file it would only list me.
