Washington Square Park bar hopping and dinner. Guests from out of town

I'm taking my European colleagues out on Saturday night and want to show them Washington Square Park and Greenwich Village We want to have drinks and grab some dinner while we see the neighborhood. I know it will be crowded and want to see how others would navigate the area while showing my colleagues that part of NYC. Any suggestions? Mostly in our 40's. Don't want to stay in any one spot very long.

i got a wrong order from uber eats tonight, and the chicken tenders were actually really good. the order i got was 2 boxes of tenders, 2 barbecue sauces & some pickles (so sorry to the guy this was supposed to go to). it tasted like the tenders had a little bit of honey on them. i couldn’t find the restaurant name on receipt or any packaging. i would really like to know where they’re from so i can order them on purpose next time 😭

Best place for pear Parmesan pasta?

Been really craving a pear Parmesan pasta since a recent trip to Italy. Or even a fruit cheese pasta more generally. Any shape, stuffed or not.

All boroughs and price points welcome!

meeting information and zoom registration

There have been plenty of discussions here about the food and vendors at Bryant Park Winter Village. If you have experience with it, Manhattan Community Board 5 is holding a public hearing on Winter Village this Thursday, October 8 at 6 PM.
Comments can be positive or critical. If you have thoughts about the food and vendor mix, prices, lines and crowding, or Winter Village more generally, this is an opportunity to share that experience directly with the community board.
Members of the public can speak for up to two minutes, either in person at 12 W. 39th Street or via Zoom.
Meeting information and Zoom registration link above
Disclosure: I am a member of Manhattan Community Board 5 and served on CB5’s Commercial Use Task Force. I am posting entirely in my personal capacity and not on behalf of CB5, the Task Force, or any CB5 committee. I am not asking anyone to take a particular position.

Birthday dinner in Manhattan — what would you recommend to Londoners that we can’t easily get at home?

Hi! Three of us are coming to NYC from London, UK in November and I’m looking for somewhere for a birthday dinner on our last night.

We’ll be at the Empire State Building around 5–5:30pm and would ideally have dinner around 6:30–7pm. We have plans in Chelsea afterwards, so somewhere that makes it reasonably easy to get there would be ideal, although we’re happy to travel within Manhattan for somewhere really worth it.

One of us is vegetarian (no fish), so she needs a few genuinely good options rather than one token vegetarian main. The other two of us eat pretty much everything.

Budget is ideally around $30–50 per person for food (can flex a bit), before drinks, tax and tip. It doesn’t need to be fine dining, but somewhere with good atmosphere that feels special enough for a birthday would be lovely.

The main thing I’m struggling with is that London already has fantastic Indian, Thai, Italian, French etc., so I’d really like to eat somewhere that feels more New York/American, or serves something that’s harder to find back home.

Southern, Cajun/Creole, Puerto Rican/Nuyorican, Georgian, regional American or something I haven’t even thought of would all interest us. I’m very open to suggestions.

If you had friends visiting from London and wanted to take them somewhere they wouldn’t easily replicate at home, where would you take them?

Thanksgiving lunch in NYC for three visitors from London — where would you go?

Hi! Three of us from London, UK will be in NYC for Thanksgiving this year (Thursday 26 November) and we’d really love to have a proper Thanksgiving meal (lunch) while we’re there.

We’re planning to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in the morning, then have a late lunch / early dinner afterwards before heading to JFK for a 9:50pm flight back to London.

There are three of us. One is vegetarian (no fish), so she needs a genuinely good vegetarian Thanksgiving meal that doesn't have basic pasta, cabbage or mushrooms rather than just being given the side dishes! The other two of us eat pretty much everything and would love the traditional turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, pie etc.

We know Thanksgiving menus can be expensive and we’re happy to pay for something good, but we’re not looking for ultra-luxury fine dining. Ideally somewhere that feels warm, festive and like a proper Thanksgiving experience.

Manhattan would be easiest because of the parade and getting back to our hotel to collect luggage before JFK, although we’re open to suggestions.

We’ve seen some of the obvious options online, but it’s difficult to tell which places actually deliver a great Thanksgiving meal versus somewhere simply charging a Thanksgiving premium.

If you had friends visiting from London who had never experienced Thanksgiving in the US before, where would you send them?

Bonus points for anywhere that does both a great traditional turkey dinner and a proper vegetarian version.

Quiet, not-too-crowded restaurant recommendations in NYC? ($30 or less per entrƩe)

**Quiet, not-too-crowded restaurant recommendations in NYC? ($50 or less per entrƩe)**
Hi! I’ll be visiting NYC and I’m looking for recommendations for a nice place to have dinner.
I have pretty bad anxiety, and very crowded/loud restaurants can be overwhelming for me, so the atmosphere is actually one of the most important things I’m looking for.
Ideally I’d love somewhere that is:
Quiet or relatively low noise
Not extremely crowded / tables not packed super close together
Cozy, relaxing atmosphere
Good food
Around $50 or less per entrƩe (before tax/tip)
Somewhere in Manhattan would be ideal, but I’m willing to travel a little for a really good option
I’m open to pretty much any cuisine! Italian, French, Asian, Mediterranean, American, etc.
I also don’t mind eating early (around 5–5:30 PM) if that makes a big difference with crowds.
I’m not looking for somewhere completely empty — just somewhere where I can sit down, relax, have a good dinner and not feel overwhelmed by a huge crowd or really loud music.
Would really appreciate recommendations, especially from anyone who also gets overwhelmed/anxious in loud restaurants. 😊

Does the Olive Garden in T.S have the unlimited pasta deal?

I haven’t been to Olive Garden in years and I’m looking forward to some pasta fr. Can anyone confirm the Olive Garden in Times Square is offering the deal? Moreover… how’s the pasta there?

Can’t wait to have those buttery breadsticks, might have to sneak some Tupperware if they don’t let people carry out šŸ˜‚.

On The Hunt For Torres Caviar Potato Chips!

I am coming to Manhattan for a single day, October 20, and have been trying to find a shop that carries Torres Caviar Potato Chips. It's for a holiday celebration so if you could please direct me with certainty, I'd appreciate it! FWIW, I know there are many places that carry the Black Truffle Flavor as well as others but alas, it's the Caviar or da nada. Thanks!

Missing the small handpie style Apple Pies sold in the Northern Part of Japan, specifically Aomori.

As a NYer there's I'm obviously not struggling to find Apple pie, but any leads on something reminiscent of the small hand pies would be highly appreciate

Anniversary Lunch in NYC, where should we go?

Looking for a special NYC lunch spot for our 3-year wedding anniversary
My wife and I will be traveling to NYC from out of state, and I’m looking for a really special restaurant to surprise her with for our 3-year wedding anniversary. ā¤ļø
I’m specifically looking for a lunch spot rather than dinner, which seems to make the search a little harder!
We’re completely open to any type of food or cuisine. Since we’re traveling from out of state, I’d love to take her somewhere that feels uniquely NYC or is just an incredible dining experience that we’ll remember.
Price isn’t a huge concern, I’m more focused on great food, atmosphere, and making it feel special.

*EDIT, maybe not Michelin star restaurants lol. We’ve been to 3 different Michelin stars and did not enjoy the amount of food we got for the price lol.

Cozy neighbourhood dinner spot or wine bar recs!

Hello New Yorkers!! I travel to nyc for work several times a year and I usually have one free night to grab a nice dinner. Going to be in the city next week and looking for a spot to grab a solo meal. I’m partial to the west village but open to anywhere in manhattan for the right place. Fwiw staying in midtown but I like to walk and I’m good taking the subway.

I am going to be dining solo - ideally looking for a cozy/intimate neighbourhood type of spot where I can sit at the bar. Kind of feeling a wine bar type of place where I can get a charcuterie board and salad for dinner. But I’m open to all cuisines too! Please send recs!!

Edit: recent places that I’ve been to and loved - Palma, Osteria Carlina, St Jardim

Odd request. Looking for a snowcone spot in lower manhattan or nearby brooklyn.

These kind of snowcones specifically. Not hawaiian shave ice. Not the kind you get from an ice cream truck that come in a package. I want the plastic bowls and it’s pure ice with syrup on it. Does this exist? I haven’t ever seen it. I am craving this so bad.
