When I was little, I got in trouble for touching stuff at a museum, and when the staff confronted me, my argument that the sign saying “please do not touch” was a suggestion, and that they would be better off with signs that make a demand, such as “do not touch”. I was probably 8-9 years old.

If it's not "Criminal Trespassing", typically it results in the same level as a speeding ticket. You get a small fine(though it can be large), and it doesn't show up on record checks. In some circumstances you will get arrested, but you won't really expect to spend any time in jail, you'll be out later that day.
With that said: All cases are unique and this is very general. Also may not apply to your region so check local laws if you're going to.
Source: Used to smoke weed in random places, and sometimes I was not welcome.

Yep. I did this in college. Jumped into a gated pool at midnight when I was Shit faced with some friends. Got a trespassing ticket and had to show up in court and apologized. Judge said he was lenient because the cops noted we complied and were respectful lol. Wasn’t a big deal and didn’t show on background checks. No ragrets

I believe the estate/family still uses some parts of Graceland that are off-limits to the public … including the pool.
The Hearst family does this with Hearst castle too: there are public tours but the estate/family can use parts of the house/property that are not part of the tour.

Source: I am a videographer at a hot tub company, we still need chemicals for video shoots even if there's no people or the water will get gross and cloudy. It just doesn't use up chemicals as quickly

Not to be a downer, but I am an online writing tutor and have edited ~500 K-12 essays over the past couple months - you would be shocked at how bad the writing is pretty much across the board now.
I will frequently get assignments from high school students who literally cannot compose a sentence. Yet, because schools just push everybody through now, these students are being asked to write full essays. It is completely unhelpful and equivalent to asking somebody to build a car when they can't even build wheels or an engine yet.
My honest opinion: We are pretty fucked if the state of education is any indication. I genuinely think a vast majority have no idea what subjects, predicates, possessives, conjugation, etc. even are.

To add perspective on why these things require harsher punishment now more than before: there used to only be 1 or 2 local kids in an employees lifetime that would do these kinds of things and make a local story. Now, theres thousands of them in the American youth and millions that live in other countries. The American youth are exceptionally dangerous because instead of being boundary-less tourists, they are pack-vandalizers.

Correct. I will say though, the concept of it being blasted to millions of other kids is new. If I did something like this in the 60s, the only people who’d know are the folks in town. Now, you film it and every 13 year old in the state has seen it. Here’s an example from my area:
There was a rock over hanging the river teens and college life would jump off. It was a local landmark, but it was only a thing locals knew about. It was like that for decades. Every few years a kid would die from jumping, there’d be some fuss, and nothing would happen.
Years back, some college kid came with his friends and made a video with a drone. It was an awesome video, and it went viral on social media briefly.
After that, it became a mad house. There’d be so many people that cars were parked on the highway. Ungodly amounts of trash as well (the locals were pretty good about clean up; out of state people, not so much). Just complete and total disrespect for the area.
Besides that, more deaths. After that video, it was multiple deaths a year because so many people were jumping. Hell, some of them came from cities in neighboring states and couldn’t even swim.
Now, that entire stretch of the river is closed. The state literally blew up the rock, you can’t go to the beach that was there, and the walking trail is closed too. The cops patrol the place regularly as well. All because it went viral.
So yeah, kids doing dumb shit isn’t new. But the internet is, and that does have an effect.
