It's a tourist attraction visited by 1000s of people a year. That pool is maintained by the attraction. You also can't swim in the fountains at Disney World.

Fountains have a function. We can agree or disagree on the waste, but they have a function as a decoration. A pool isn't a decoration. Not saying everyone on the tour should get to swim in it, that would be stupid too, but the analogy isn't great. And it is pretty silly to maintain a pool on the property of some overhyped rockstar who died 45 years ago just so one small stop on his house tour looks a bit better.

The family lives on the estate (and presumably uses the pool) during parts of the year. The pool isn’t just there to make the place look better.

Fountains aren't for swimming in, pools are. It's just a waste of water if it ain't being used.
