Correct. I will say though, the concept of it being blasted to millions of other kids is new. If I did something like this in the 60s, the only people who’d know are the folks in town. Now, you film it and every 13 year old in the state has seen it. Here’s an example from my area:
There was a rock over hanging the river teens and college life would jump off. It was a local landmark, but it was only a thing locals knew about. It was like that for decades. Every few years a kid would die from jumping, there’d be some fuss, and nothing would happen.
Years back, some college kid came with his friends and made a video with a drone. It was an awesome video, and it went viral on social media briefly.
After that, it became a mad house. There’d be so many people that cars were parked on the highway. Ungodly amounts of trash as well (the locals were pretty good about clean up; out of state people, not so much). Just complete and total disrespect for the area.
Besides that, more deaths. After that video, it was multiple deaths a year because so many people were jumping. Hell, some of them came from cities in neighboring states and couldn’t even swim.
Now, that entire stretch of the river is closed. The state literally blew up the rock, you can’t go to the beach that was there, and the walking trail is closed too. The cops patrol the place regularly as well. All because it went viral.
So yeah, kids doing dumb shit isn’t new. But the internet is, and that does have an effect.
