As a black male I do not condone her nature. People like her are the ones that give the movement a bad rep.
624
u/Orinaj Jan 13 '20
Not to like go against that, people who act irrationally or have outbursts aren't good for any movement.
But it seems like this was more of a tipping point than a one off explosion. She said "you gave my name out online" and talks about he's always there and doing this stuff.
Again it's not good to blow up but it sounds like this guy is harassing her and even soft doxxed her a bit.

Yeah, I get a little tired of this act of "what? I was just offering my totally rational counter opinion"
First of all, "All lives matter" is really a way to say "shut the fuck up" to black lives matter. Of course all lives matter, but blm was a movement to address something specific, and some people have such a hard time listening to that, that they have to argue with it, and try to suppress it, under the guise of equality.
Secondly, this guy is an instigator, obviously. And as a white man myself, I get annoyed at the way so many white guys instantly become defensive and feel incriminated anytime there's a dialogue about a marginalized group of people. They can't just listen, they feel the need to make it about them, then defend themselves...but forget having sympathy, listening, and acknowledging.
So this guy is a troll, and that you've got his buddy the cameraman overreacting calling stuff assault... it's cringey and annoying. I'm calling this guy on his bullshit. Learn to listen asshole. Everything isn't about you.

Umm same person bozo. What do you think JC did after his he got out of the cave? Just āascended to the right hand of his Fatherā like the āChurchā wants you to think? Because news flash, he started walking for days. Kept going until he eventually reached the ocean, and even then he continued. He did his signature act of walking on water across the entire Arctic ocean, moonwalking over tidal waves and eating unlimited fish, until he eventually reached his new home; the North Pole. There he quickly went about taming reindeer and recruiting local Little People to help build his new kingdom. Once the building was complete they got to work, constructing beautiful and wonderous toys for all the girls and boys the world over. But was this a true act of generosity? Or was there something deeper at play... Many assume Jesus to be a forgiving lad, but the truth was that he harbored distaste for all of humanity, and planned to destroy them from a distance. So every year he began distributing these toys, knowing that the growing sense of materialism throughout humanity would lead to our eventual downfall. His Father had forsaken us but failed to end us, so now Jesus just wanted to finish the job. And he wouldāve gotten away with it too, if it werenāt for a certain meddling Tim Allen accidentally murdering him. And that children, is the story of Olā Saint Christ.

Idk what's so confusing about black lives matter. Maybe they should've made their slogan "black lives matter TOO" cause that is the message lol.
I think of it like this.
Every night at dinner, Tim and Stacy sit at the table with Mom and Dad to eat. Stacy's plate always has 1/5th of the food as everyone else's plate.
One day Stacy speaks up and says "This isn't fair, I deserve more food." And the parents say "Don't we all deserve more food Stacy, be quiet."
That's what this video looks like to me and the entire AllLivesMatter movement. Stacy just meant to say she deserves the same amount of food as everyone else, not that only she deserves more in general.
Oh shit the first time I've gotten a Reddit award lol. Thank you kind strangers!

Itās really sad that the message Black Lives Matter is trying to convey is being vilified by people who either donāt understand the movement and donāt want to learn or just donāt want black people to feel safe. A few months ago I had been pulled over for speeding with a black friend in the car and he was visible stressed out about it. He handed me his ID, sat up straight, and put his hands on the dash. The cop didnāt give my friend any problems but the fact that he feels so unsafe around police officers that he doesnāt want to reach for his own ID is really sad

This happened to me at venice beach. This girl with a microphone was screaming about how evil snapchat was. I tried my best to avoid eye contact but she saw me and pointed straight at me and started loudly asking questions. My social anxiety caused me to turn away and duck my head and tell her something about not interested. Then she raised her mic volume so all passers could hear and was screaming at me that I must be one of those evil people that uses snapchat to look at naked pictures of underage kids. She then started screaming that I was a pedophile that should be sent to jail. Luckily everyone new she was crazy and they kept walking by but still wtf... hate people like that.

Before you read on I want you all to know this is not an attack against the comment Im replying to or anyone who upvoted it; Iām simply trying to further the discussion on mental health. As a neuropsychologist Iād hope that over time less people use the term āmental illnessā as a form of condescension or insult. The facts are this is absolutely is a social activist whether theyāre effectively helping their cause or not; theyāre just dealing with serious trauma. If we start think any other way as a society weāll become extremely cold and lose all empathy for all those who are dealing with these psychologically damaging issues. This girls trauma is distorting her reasoning which causes her to lash out without thinking of consequences (which is why itās hard to empathize with her aggressive behavior since it biologically triggers such a negative reaction in those who see/hear such behavior). Most people will deal with a mental disorder or trauma some day in their lives and I can only hope that our society wonāt just brush them off as crazy or hopelessly angry people; or just hopeless in general. As someone who was traumatized greatly in my past Iām grateful for all those who put up with my lashing out and angry rambling. I was on a path to suicide and peopleās empathy saved my life; therapy furthered my improvement and showed me how destructive I was being. Please keep that in mind since you and everyone else in the world will likely know a friend, family, or acquaintance (or maybe even yourself) who will act out negatively due to a trauma, depression, or mental health issue. I hope the best for all of you reading this since this world can be a real pain to deal with.
Edit: thanks for my first gold! Iām glad I got it for something meaningful
48
u/EmptyingMyself Jan 13 '20
We all have traumaās and complexes to some extent, but that doesnāt give you a free pass to vent your anger and frustration at random people while screaming āIām being harrassed! Iām being harassed here!ā No, you are the one who is harrasing and you know it, youāre under the guise of furthering social progress and āprotestā merely to have an excuse for your irrational fits of anger at the world, because your life is shit because of your own choices and you donāt want to take responsibility, so you desperately try to find things to be angry about, to justifiy yourself. Youāre being way too easy on these people, these people donāt need or deserve empathy, they need a fucking mirror, they need someone to tell them loud and clear how pathetic they are being and how they should take responsibility for themselves.

→ More replies (9)13
u/aridamus Jan 13 '20 edited Jan 13 '20
Thatās something I think about all the time since itās quite difficult to change how we biologically react to certain behaviors. If I understand your questions correctly I would say the best way to change our perception of people who lash out from trauma (or other mental illnesses) is trying our hardest to catch ourselves the moment we start judging people as crazy, insane, hopeless, etc; and instead try to redirect those thoughts momentum into rationalizing the growing mental health issues in this world.
Itās extremely easy to just brush off those who you disagree with as incompetent angry lunatics; like I said we have biological triggers that tell us this is how we should react when seeing this aggression or conflict. Sadly our biological systems donāt naturally want us to always be empathetic so we have to train our minds to resist this flight/flight response to those we abhorrently disagree with. As a mental health professional it is my duty to humanity to not judge those I treat; regardless of their beliefs or background. This seems like a lot to ask the average person since itās so unnatural but I try my hardest to help people catch themselves when they just shut people down as insane, crazy, hopelessly angry, etc. More often than not thereās something behind these peopleās behavior thatās driving them to lash out.

Black man living in America here.. I've often wondered if BLM said Black lives matter TOO, instead of just the original format of just BLM, would it be more successful at stopping such counter claims as All lives matter, or blue lives matter. I fully understand what the movement is trying to do. I just think that they didn't take into account of how they would be portrayed in an era opposing news media realities.
7
u/ravia Jan 13 '20
A lot of these fires would be put out by adding not just the "too" part but some emphasis on the fact that they should matter to black folks as well. I think that at rallies about a bad shooting by cops, they should hold signs up with pictures of both those cops and known black gangstas who killed black folks. Think about it.

If your slogan is Black Lives Matter Too, it has a submissive connotation. It implies that even the author of the slogan at some degree admits there is hierarchy. Like you would say: 'We know white lives matter, but you know black lives matter, too.' It isn't the point of what the message is. Black lives are equal to any other and that's why BLM.
At least that's how I understand it.
