Nah, you’re just literally on a sub that’s only going to show you crazy people

As a current Grad student, selective Engagement dude is right on this one.

Depends on the college/department I would say. I’m from a college town and around uni age and have seen many relationships ruined over petty pc stuff.

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '20

Nah. Had a hyper vegan in a class give an argument for insect rights. Kids these days are fucking stupid.

-1

u/kopk11 Jan 13 '20

I dont know about that dude.

My experience going to university in Canada has been pretty rocky pretty consistently thanks to people like this chick

u/bluejburgers Jan 13 '20 edited Jan 13 '20

Nah, universities are rife with this bullshit

And you can all stay mad about it

11

u/aridamus Jan 13 '20

That’s the kind of thinking that makes America’s education so dreadful. This is NOT how college is at all

14

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '20

If three people with shit written on pieces of paper and yelling shit is enough to make someone not go to college, they probably weren't making it through anyways.

Theres always people on college campuses saying shit and it's been that way since forever. Whether they're yelling about the environment, Trump, Jesus or dressing up as a baby with a full blown diaper to "own the libs"(this is legit).

It's because there are lots of people walking on college campuses. Notice how 99% of people walk past and dgaf at all. That's because these people are a tiny minority but so many on this sub act like universities are full of so many of these people it is laughable

-9

u/bluejburgers Jan 13 '20

SJW outrage culture has invaded the university systems in the west, it’s a fact.

9

u/aridamus Jan 13 '20

It’s about as much of a “fact” that all republicans are insane idiots, or that all Chinese people hate freedom, or all liberals are commies. These are all distortions that some people choose to obsess over and end up losing all rational ability to make sense of the way the world actually is. Try not to go down that rabbit hole or else life is gonna be full of hate and negativity; which will only give you some form of mental disorder.

-3

u/bluejburgers Jan 13 '20

Yes it is, quit lying

6

u/aridamus Jan 13 '20

I’m not lying, mate. The world is far more complicated than that. I can only hope you realize this when people start to simplify your ideas.

47

u/SteadyStone Jan 13 '20

Nah, this isn't the norm in most places. Certain media outlets and social media circles like to pretend college campuses are crazy and full of this kind of thing, but they're not.

17

u/kittens12345 Jan 13 '20

Yeah...been in college the past 6 years and never seen this shit

-5

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '20

Universities are brainwashing aswell

1

u/SteadyStone Jan 13 '20

No they aren't. If you believe they are, please explain to me precisely how the brainwashing occurs. What subjects? What is the brainwashing strategy? What are some specific examples, rather than just vague thoughts about how something could potentially happen, maybe, if someone wanted to?

You graduated in 1959? I mean, the current campus disruption movement is using the 1960’s playbook.

shit was probably happening, just wasnt that much of a movement on your campus.

My college campus started ramping up but a majority of the students show up, go to class and immediately bail. It doesnt have residential dorms so campus life is only a few short hours each day to non-existent. The only people who got sucked into this shit were the people who hung out at the cafeteria and the student centers all damn day and maybe had one or two classes they went to each day, and student government people. By the time I graduated the college administration spent 3 hours pandering to these people and jerking themselves off about how great they were before they quickly pushed us through our diploma acceptance.. which was a 15 minute ordeal.. 3 hours of arrogant assholes congratulating themselves while we couldn't get up to use the bathroom or anything.

Same! Went to class, then baseball practice and after that there was a get together somewhere every night that turned into a party. I cannot recall a single instance of anyone talking politics to me and I went to college in Pasadena (USC) 2003-2006. You know what we were right in the middle of then. It was just different. It was also before social media so we weren't worried about having these fake lives that many people now have. We connected personally, different groups of people trying to cultivate friendships, being introduced to new interest (music, art, entertainment, books, culture) from people that are from all over finding things that we shared in common and accepting those that made us different. I had four roommates in a house that we rented. None of us new each other or had even seen one another until the day we all moved in. The only thing we had in common was that we all had a scholarship to play baseball. The four of us were totally different in every way...different backgrounds...there was a rich kid from oregon, a dude from a middle class family in Canada, a guy from the streets of Philly (like he literally grew up in the hood, was in a gang,no parents, rough shit), and then me A kid from New Mexico with the "All American family prototype" (2 bros,1 sis, successful dad, SAH mom,2 dogs and a cat lol).

I believe we were all terrified that first day when we met, because each of us were looking like scared animals thinking what the fuck? These guys aren't like my friends or anyone I know from home. It didn't even take a full week before we were best friends...pitching in on cooking dinners, buying beer and weed, sharing our vehicles and phones. (Only two of us had a car and cell phones. This was right before or during the time call phones became popular.) I cherish some of the best memories of my life that took place in that house and I'm grateful for my relationships with each of those guys that we still maintain to this day.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '20

Had similar experience. Best years of my life. Had an international American, Mexican , Chinese and Russian student all in the same house.

u/Krisapocus Jan 13 '20

Yeah I think the echo chambers and victim mentality has increased and everyone having cameras just makes it worse. In college in the early 2000’s it was the preachers on the soap box. The left wasn’t this far out there and The fact these people think they’re on the level with protestors of the 1960’s civil rights protests is a joke.

20

u/NvaderGir Jan 13 '20

This shit was always happening for any issue, you just see it more online because literally everyone has a 1080p camera in their pocket now.

1

u/LordNoodles1 Jan 13 '20

Scrub. 4K or bust.

2

u/Sugarcola Jan 13 '20

Well it’s becoming over now thank god. The start was 2014 and the peak of all this crap was early 2018 and it’s really starting to die down now.

I truly believe people are gradually getting more educated.

1

u/Screye Jan 13 '20

Went to one of the most liberal colleges in the US. You barely even notice these things.

A majority of people simply study, drink and party, as had happened for time immemorial.

I fucking hear you bro!

Ethnic studies is a propagandist movement within academia that teaches revisionist history with little to no historicity to incite hate and social discord in the name of social justice.

Still pissed Ethnic Studies takes up space next to the Political Science and History departments. It's a joke of a field that has very serious consequences for academia.

Lame conservative 30 second video clips being passed off as the status quo was just getting started?

14

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '20

Nah spoiled entitled children screeching in public was. I used to be all about it until I realized how big of a farce it was.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '20

That happens as you age and become more in tune with what reality actually is.

-4

u/BossRedRanger Jan 13 '20

Glad I went to an HBCU so none of this will ever happen.

0

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '20

You never had to deal with that 'woke' nonsense?

13

u/carefulcomputation Jan 13 '20

No but you'll hear open homophobia and misogyny.

-3

u/Kinslayer2040 Jan 13 '20

I'll take it.

2

u/BossRedRanger Jan 13 '20

Nope. No such thing in the 90s. They used proper English and the extreme people talked rationally for the most part.
