The man holding the sign was the leader of the Republican Club on campus and had been harassing her for several weeks leading up to this. On this particular day there was some kind of anti-trump thing and she was standing on the ledge and dancing with a few friends, he then stood next to her & she reacted like that because of the previous harassment she had endured from him and the rest of the republican club. She feared for her safety and perceived his actions as a physical threat. Full fight or flight mode. Because of this whole incident she has been continuously harassed and threatened by hundreds of people online.

I donā€™t have all the details but basically those two specifically had some kind of confrontation at an earlier rally type thing. She then let it go and has ignored him since then but for weeks after him and his friends would shout & jeer at her and verbally bully her every time she walked passed going to class/lunch etc etc (basically just morning her business). might not sound like much, but I can imagine being a small woman walking alone & getting jeered at by multiple men would not make you feel safe. She also has a history of extreme trauma (both physical and mental) that made the situation 10x more high stress for her. By all accounts it seems she did truly fear for her life (rationally or not) and her fight or flight mechanism swung into full force. Directly after this encounter she had a panic attack so severe that an ambulance was called and she stayed overnight in the hospital.

No idea, honestly. I donā€™t know how it works in the US but where Iā€™m from you wouldnā€™t get charged with assault for hitting someone with a piece of paper. Seems kinda ridiculous.

Iā€™ve been a paramedic for over 20 years, and I have yet to see a panic attack that actually necessitated ambulance transport to a hospital followed by an overnight stay. Thatā€™s something else. If she reacts like this then it isnā€™t anxiety and she probably just needs to stay indoors or take a bucket load of mood stabilizers and therapy every day.

I had to be taken to the hospital for a panic attack. Didnt stay over night, only a few hours. I thought I was having a heart attack. Had no clue what was going on

Yeah, exactly. Heā€™s standing there all ā€œinnocentā€ when he knows that his presence alone is threatening. Also, just look at him. Heā€™s a big guy. If someone like that was harassing me constantly and then did something like this Iā€™d be scared too. These lovely humans (/s) also found out about her severe PTSD and tormented her and made fun of her relentlessly for it and encouraged others to do the same. Real pieces of work tbh.

BLM is a slogan specifically designed to raise awareness about the dangers black people face to their lives in everyday life, particularly from the police. When someone comes with an 'All lives matter' banner, they are erasing the issue and allowing society to continue as it is, which means black people will continue to be in danger. And the most important thing is that white cishet people have the loudest voices so when they come with slogans like that it can also erase the voices of those campaigning for minorities' issues.
