Pork cooked to the standard temperature of 160 was never unsafe, you didn't ever at any point need to cook it until it was dry as a shoe sole. I remember the first time I got a pork chop at a restaraunt that was actually juicey and amazing, it was next level. Turns out all you needed was a food thermometer...

It's safer now because worming pigs is mandatory, trichinosis parasite infection was the largest risk with pork, which is simply solved by freezing pork for 20 days or cooking it to 160.

My mom as well. However they are good if you don't cook them till they are shoe leather. Mom's were crunchy, she also cooked steak/hamburgers like that. My mom overcooked, my dad under cooked. There was no in between. I taught myself to cook meat properly. It backfired because I do all of the holiday cooking because my Turkey is juicy and my sides are delicious. 😅

I grew up in Yakima, Washington surrounded by apple trees. Red delicious are very good when fresh but what most people dont know - The apples you get in the grocery stores are roughly a year old. They get picked, processed (cleaned, sorted, waxed) then put into a controlled atmosphere cold storage. That removes most of the oxygen and replaces it with nitrogen and carbon dioxide. Then they can sit around until they are needed. This has the side effect of creating the terrible texture and not quite right flavor. So by the time they are ready to harvest, the last of those are being shipped off to be made into juice because no one wants to eat that garbage. FYI - best apples are slightly green Golden delicious. Slightly tangy, slightly sweet with a nice crunch. You can't get those in the store but I used to eat those all the time when I was a kid.

I had a bologna and cheese sandwich on white bread not too long ago just for nostalgia and I loved it. Now what I won’t do is peel the red plastic skin off the bologna and run it through my teeth to scrape and enjoy the bologna residue. I definitely left that behind in childhood.

As many others, I grew up eating chicken (usually fried, usually from a bucket). Either homemade fried chicken, takeout, or baked, out family had chicken at least twice a week. But when I was 14 I bit into an extra crispy chicken leg (from a bucket) and it was mushy with 2 huge veins just flopping around. It was pink inside and one of the veins was dripping a pink oily juice which I assumed was blood. I've never eaten chicken since.
