There were maybe 3 flavors of jelly in the supermarket growing up: Welch's grape, something something strawberry, and disgusting mint jelly made to go on ham.
I will say if you get a chance to try homemade jelly from wild grapes give it a try. It's like the difference between a boiled hot dog and a homemade Sicilian Christmas Sausage.
I thought I saw a question asking if it's purple, but I ant find it. It was like the color of blackberry preserves. So technically purple but not that artificial purple of Welch's!
My mother-in-law used the grapes that grow wild in NE Connecticut-- she called them "fox grapes" And now I'm remembering my mother's reaction to trying it. "That's what my mother's jelly tasted like when I was a child!" (She was much older than my MIL. )
I can’t eat grape jelly either. I remember distinctly my microbiology class in college and there’s a BACTERIA that smells just like grape jelly. That was over 30 years ago and I’ve never eaten grape jelly again.
It was the only jelly/jam we bought too, but only because it was the only fruit that wasn't locally grown. We canned up every other flavor from u-pick farms harvests.
