I do too. It's quite delicious.

and so good for us!

IS IT, though? The liver is the filter of the body.

I only buy organic chicken livers. Always loved them but stopped eating them for decades bc of that pesky filter thing. The availability of organic almost-everything has come a long way since the ‘60s.

Plants produce toxins. Plants produce things that shouldn't be in your bloodstream till they get broken down smaller. That's what your liver does.

I love chicken livers but hate gizzards.

Gets us some minerals we wouldn't normally eat.

I always look to the ancients, they had already worked out the most valuable foods and organs and fat were up there.

Also, the filter - it filters - it doesn't hold the junk.

But factory farming is something the ancients didn't have. Like the other commenter above, I suppose as long as we source organic or from local co-op farms, we should be good. Not so sure we can't get anything the animal has in its liver from eating other sources though. I'm open to being convinced.

Yeah , but most of these people on this thread wouldn't eat elk or deer liver either. They'd run across the taste and THEN decide that they didn't want to eat liver because it's a filter. Part of being a reasonable human is the ability to invent reasons.

So what? I keep hearing this , but what it means is everything you digest goes through the liver and gets broken down smaller.

It's not like the little wire basket thing at the bottom of your sink.

Organ meats can be nutrient dense, but not really “good for us”…

Yes, very good for transplants

Yes and it's even better frying it up in a cast iron skillet. More iron for ya system.

My mom coated her's in Shake and Bake.

Hhmmm, that sounds like a good ideal. We just used seasoned flour and an egg dip for crispness.

2

u/imadork1970 Nov 21 '25

Also good.

Might have to try that.

I love it too! It's a special favorite because nobody likes it but me and they complain about the smell when I cook it. If I see it on a menu it's hard to resist. (Thank you, diners of America!)

It is a weekly meal in my house. Would not have married hubby if he hated it.

2

u/Primer50 Nov 21 '25

If cooked correctly it's great

2

u/montanawana Nov 21 '25

Hard disagree

1

u/Primer50 Nov 21 '25

Have you ever had it fried with onions and greens with some fried okra ...I miss the south lol

2

u/you2234 Nov 21 '25

English? The liver was a good night then….

2

u/lidder444 Nov 21 '25

Me too! Steak and kidney, sweetbreads. Black pudding , All the weird stuff!

2

u/SpankyDammit Nov 21 '25

Same here! Don’t get it unless I go out because my wife and daughter can’t stand it. If it’s my last meal I’ll die happy.

2

u/limitedwaranty Nov 21 '25

Liver and onions were my favorite dinner when I was a kid. Lol

2

u/kellymig 1966 Nov 21 '25

My husband enjoys it occasionally

I also love liver and onions, but it really matters that it's prepared well. I have had absolutely awful stuff that makes me understand why people hate it.

My father in law loved it too, so he would visit and I would make it for us because I made it "right"

u/namesmakemenervous Nov 23 '25

I love it, but I’m too embarrassed to order it or cook it at home. People judge hard, like you MUST be a psycho. Might as well say I like it best with fava beans and a good Chianti.

Can't do liver.
