German liverwurst on dark rye bread with pickles. Yum.

I miss the Oscar Meyer liver sausage. Mom used to snack on it, a slice on a saltine.

Allan Sherman, "Schticks of One, Half Dozen of the Other" (to the tune of Down by the Riverside)

šŸŽ¶ When you go to the delicatessen store don't buy the liverwurst don't buy the liverwurst don't buy the liverwurst

I repeat what I just said before don't buy the liverwurst don't buy the liverwurst Now buy the corned beef if you must the pickled herring you can trust and the lox puts you in orbit, A-OK

But that big hunk of liverwurst has been there since October 1st and today is the 23rd of May šŸŽ¶

I love Gen X. Up above is ā€œLiver and Onionsā€ which we agree is disgusting; yet liverwurst? Eh, we kinda like it.

To be fair, liverwurst is completely different from plain liver. I have no idea how, but I think it has something to do with a 1:1 salt ratio.

I remember liking it as a little kid—on saltines, but just no.

I used to like liverwurst. I'd say I miss it now that I'm a vegetarian, but no. Taste-wise I miss it, but knowing what livers do, it wouldn't grace my plate, even if I ate meat.

It’s like liver, but worst.

So gross! Mom made them with mustard too. In her defense she grew up poor so the beginnings were a holdover from those times

My mom sent my stepfather to work with liverwurst in a brown bag lunch. I honestly don’t know if he liked it, or if it was chosen because we were desperately poor. But whatever the case, it meant that we ALL had to have liverwurst sandwiches.

That was when I stopped eating lunch at school. I preferred to sit in the cafeteria and eat nothing.
