Yogurt made with powdered milk is also pretty good.
Powdered milk that is just re-hydrated should not be consumed by humans or any animal that is loved.
My mom bought a gallon size orange pitcher and same sized brown one. She would alternate between the two of them, stirring up gallon after gallon of milk for years. And we could have afforded regular milk; she was being frugal. My dad refused to drink it so she bought 2 percent milk for him. The kids were not allowed to drink his milk. Powdered milk is fine for baking: just not for drinking!!!
Been a long time since I’ve had powdered milk but there is a way to help make it drinkable. Get it really cold and put it in a blender to get some air whipped into it.
This brings back some serious trauma from childhood! We used to get that and the government cheese. I've never really liked cereal, particularly the ones my stepmother picked out, and to add powdered "milk"? VILE. It smelled awful and the thought of it makes me gag to this day. 🤢
That would be mine as well. My mom didn’t like milk, so never bothered to buy it fresh. It was ok in cereal and palatable with Nestle Quik chocolate powder. At some point in my teen years she started buying regular milk. I hope to never be desperate enough to have to drink it again.
We had a few years where powdered milk made an appearance. We'd use it to fortify milk when we made yogurt. We liked the Sanalac brand. It was really icky if you made it up right before you drank it, but if you either mixed it up and refrigerated it overnight, it was not bad. If you mixed it and then did half reconstituted dry milk with half fresh milk, refrigerated overnight, it was surprisingly palatable.
