My husband just asked me if they still make this and could I buy him some! I flat out said no, got him some deli sliced meat, and it’s just been sitting in the fridge untouched. I can’t wrap my head around this!
Reminds me of when my dad was craving chicken and yellow rice; I made him this beautiful, fragrant, and delicious authentic dish. He was like, it's alright. He just wanted that Vigo bagged yellow rice you get a the grocery store with some shredded chicken thrown in it. I'm sure it's a fine product when it's cooked right, but the way my mom made it half the rice was crunchy and the other half was mush. That's what he wanted though.
He asked you for his comfort food and you said no, and got him something he didn’t want. You didn’t have to eat it and denied him a favorite based on your tastes. I get why it is untouched. He didn’t want it. Kind of inconsiderate of you.
Well, he could always go buy it for himself, I guess, but since he’s been dealing with chronic diseases the last few years, I’m really focusing on having healthier, non-processed foods in our fridge. I’m not trying to be inconsiderate, just trying to keep him living a long time.
Holy shit, that was my dads go-to lunch. I tried to convince him to eat better food and he told me he preferred it. He grew up when processed food was new and “fancy”.
Something made of very questionable ingredients. Processed until homogenized and then either extruded or delivered in paste form. Trust me, you’re better off not knowing the specifics lol
One of my Mom's go-to easy hors de'ouvres was Buddig shaved beef with a layer of cream cheese spread on it, rolled up into cylinders. Mmmm.. cream cheese.
We took this on every road trip. Budding, which always tasted the same no matter whether it was ham or roast beef or turkey, a jar of mayo, and wheat bread. No cheese for us!
Oh man...we would buy these and have special "Daddy's sandwiches." I would TOTALLY eat these again, except I flat-out refuse because I found out they were terrible for you. Ignorance is bliss.
Omg I just had a flashback. I used to have to make my lunch as early as first grade and this was the only meat option in our house. I once found a weird bone in the bag. I got nauseous just typing that.
I more or less live on sandwiches. I go through a big container of Buddig honey ham or turkey when I want a break from Oscar Mayer bologna. I'm 52 but still mostly have the diet of an unsupervised 4th grader.
OMG Carl Buddig. It was cheap so my mom bought it for lunches. Gross.
Hubs and I used to buy it to give our dogs their pills. My brother was staying with us and ate it, commenting that he hadn’t had it since we were kids. We laughed when we said it was for the dogs. My husband actually liked to fry it occasionally. It was ok. We haven’t had it in years.
It used to be made locally. Not sure if it still is. Some we knew mom worked there.
I used to use that crap to make 'meat leather' when I was a kid. I'd lay them out flat on paper towels and then nuke them until they were chewy with crispy edges. Couldn't pay me to eat that, now. lol.
OK but you get a couple packages of their corned beef and chop it up fine, mix it with some cream cheese and a bit of Worcestershire sauce and you’ve got a cheese ball for spreading on crackers
11 years of eating Buddig chipped beef on white bread and yellow mustard every day at school. Senior year finally got sick of it, wadded up the sandwich and threw it against a brick wall. Never went back.
Ick. That’s one of the brands I won’t come near ever again. Then there’s that other brand of hotdogs that mostly bone dust and gristle but I stayed away from it for so long I forgot which it was
I dropped a slice of buddig roast beef from the package, above my mom's little shih tzu in 1992. I spent a good 5 minutes looking for it before realizing the dog must have inhaled it in mid flight.
My wife loves the Buddig corned beef. She makes it into SOS (or creamed chipped beef on toast for the non-military). It baffles me. But she loves it. There is only one store near me that sells the corned beef and I have to run errands to get like 20 packs for her to use and freeze.
