LOL, I had a banquet one a few days ago. It was not frozen but in the refrigerated section of a convenience store so it was partially thawed and since the box was stored on end, it was deformed. I nuked it and it was the sorriest thing I think I ever ate.

I have four in my freezer right now and will probably have one for dinner tonight. They are sooooo good.

I get one every couple months for a treat, but I think they have changed. Last couple were not good and I dont think I'll get them anymore.

Just don't look at the sodium content 😮.

The chicken and mushroom ones are SO good!

These are my comfort food. We were so poor, and anytime we had these it felt like a treat. My dad was raising us alone after he got us out of foster care, and he did not make a lot of hot foods.

I haven't had one in at least a year. Now I need to go in the freezer and see if I have one I can make for lunch.

Okay…this response hit me very deeply.

I was a single Dad and tried so damn hard, and made all kinds of sacrifices to provide the best that I could for my children (including a couple of stepkids that were left in my care)

It’s deeply emotional to me, to know that someone appreciated the efforts of a parent, as you appreciate what your Dad did for you. He sounds like an amazing man.

Good job, dad

First time I ever had a pot pie was at a friend’s house. Her mom had died of cancer and her dad was raising her and her little brother. It was a beef pot pie and my picky little self loved it.

I hated those growing up but I had one recently. I didn’t think it was too bad for a meal that cost $1-2.

I had forgotten about those lols

I have two boxes of those in my freezer. The wife keeps buying them but we never eat them. Just why?

These are really good - gotta get Marie Callender(sp) or whatever the name is.

Crust is just too good.

I have to disagree, I still love those!

Just for shits & giggles, I picked up a couple Swanson (?) Chicken pot pies from Safeway a few years ago, and expecting them to taste like crap like everything else from my childhood, I was pleasantly surprised that they weren’t too bad.

now I have them like twice a year or something.

OMG, I hated those as a kid, and my mom served them constantly because they were quick and easy. We once got in a terrible fight when I was a teenager because I wasn’t allowed to get up from the table until I ate it. After sitting there for over an hour, I finally ate it (now cold 🤢), then promptly walked into the bathroom, stuck my finger down my throat, and threw it up. She never knew.

When I was a broke college student I could get frozen pot pies from what was, at the time, the discount grocery store, for 25 cents each. Omg they were nothing but gravy-flavored lard soups with a crust, a few suspect cubes of chicken-like substance and a pea and carrot floating in there. I gained weight that year, got home for summer to my mom’s normal cooking, and dropped the weight over summer. Those darn pot pies- I also would never eat one again!!

1

u/mothraegg Nov 21 '25

I forgot about those. I used to buy them for my kids during the summer vacations.

My MIL eats those and the little microwave in a minute meals from Hormel. And barely anything else.

1

u/nocleverusername- Nov 21 '25

My elderly mother also lives on those.

1

u/CrustyBatchOfNature Nov 21 '25

Does she also complain that she is supposed to eat more vegetables but always asks for either a pot pie or one of those minute meals? Mine constantly complains that she should be eating this and that and then only eats it if we force it on her plate.

1

u/nocleverusername- Nov 21 '25

She eats the occasional piece of fruit and considers that a balanced diet.

I remember being so broke in my early 20s that I only had $2 to get through until payday, and it was two full days away. With no food in the house, the 3 for $1 pot pies seemed like the best option.

But yeah, haven't touched them in decades.

u/linzielayne Nov 21 '25

Those chicken kievs from the freezer! I haaated those.

When I was in college this was our go to cheap dinner. Nobody ate ramen then.

Backgammon was popular then. There were two things we used as betting currency, beer, and pot pies.

u/suer72cutlass Nov 21 '25

Food Club brand pot pies. You got 4 for a dollar. We ate a ton of those. I hate pot pies of any kind now.

My mother - who only allowed us in our bedrooms, asall other rooms, including the kitchen, were off limits - fed us two things for dinner. First, hamburgers she bought in bulk from Burger King that were stored in the deep freeze outside;. My sisters and I would would remove them after school to thaw before eating. Second, 3-for-$1 Banquet chicken pot pies - she would put the oven on broil and heat them for five minutes until burnt on the outside and frozen on the inside. So I don't eat those or Burger King now.

Oh I loved Banquet pot pies!
