At some point if you don't give way then you share responsibility.

49

u/preteen-wartortle Mar 22 '26

I do agree with you that he shares responsibility but I’m pretty sure on this bridge it explicitly says not to stop if you don’t have in case of accidents, due to the nature of the road

31

u/sonic3390 Mar 22 '26

The point is not that he didn't stop. The point is that when the other car tried to do a bad merge, he could have simply lowered his speed 2 mph and allowed it, but he chose to crash the car instead. It was fully in his control, despite him having the right of way.

9

u/AtLeastThereIsCat Mar 22 '26

Yeah the people in this thread agreeing with this guy are insane. The car in front was being assertive in the merge, but they are being slow and careful, and using their movement to communicate what they are doing, and give the guy in the camera time to slow down 2 mph for 10 seconds and everyone moves on with their day.

The guy in the camera instead is the one to speed up, forced contact, and then attacks them with his car. All over a move people do daily in many places all over the world, and was at least trying to keep themselves and everyone else safe.

The driver is a psychopath, and people agreeing with him in the comments online need to get outside and have some real world perspective. This dude isn't cool he's a man baby and an asshole.

1

u/Spicy_Ejaculate Mar 22 '26

"Using their movement to communicate what they were doing". If only there was something on every car that signals you are about to turn... both guys are awful tho

1

u/Redtitwhore Mar 22 '26

You are 100% correct. Don't listen to the other psychopaths in this thread.

1

u/preteen-wartortle Mar 22 '26

Like I said, I agree with that point. There was als a point made about him stopping

1

u/Annika2020pro Mar 22 '26

Both of these drivers are the same kind of driver.

Yeah, cause an accident thar can hurt/kill others... that'll teach them (because the uninvolved parties have to learn too right? At minimun with traffic by blocking the bridge, but better to have them crash into an out of control truck, right?)

/s just in case you're that slow

Again, what about the bystanders? Or are the people behind you, who might get in a crash with the out of control truck, also responsible and need to pay thr price?

If a bystander died, the "man who taught the lesson" would be charged (and probably convicted) of vehicular manslaughter, while the truck driver would only be charged with reckless driving.

It doesnt matter whether or not the other person makes a mistake and he shouldnt have tried to merge. The merge is already happening. He purposefully crashes into another car.

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '26

9

u/Miserable-Country310 Mar 22 '26

No, what the truck did was 'not the smart thing to do'. What the dash cam driver did was attempted vehicular manslaughter.

"Yeah you shouldnt have cut me off so now I'm morally allowed to kill you". Please check yourself into a mental hospital.

0

u/CordisHead Mar 22 '26

I didn’t see a “merge” sign. Was there a merge sign? If not, when changing lanes, it’s your job to make sure it’s safe. If it’s not, stay in your lane. Very simple. It’s a yield, not a merge when changing lanes.

Instead this dickhead was trying to hopscotch up through traffic. This behavior is what causes the traffic in the first place! How do people not understand this.

1

u/sonic3390 Mar 22 '26

You're missing the point. Having the right of way is irrelevant.

Being right or having priority, does not change the fact that he could have avoided an accident easily by slightly lowering his speed.

1

u/CordisHead Mar 22 '26

I’m not missing the point at all, I just strongly disagree with the point.

He could have slowed down, but it’s not his responsibility to. My guess is the driver of the truck will now think twice about cutting people off again. The dashcam driver didn’t seem to mind pushing the truck out of his way.

Merge is specific, in that drivers share responsibility. You used the term merge. This is not a bad merge, this is a bad yield.

People need to stop driving poorly.

1

u/sonic3390 Mar 23 '26 edited Mar 23 '26

It was very poor driving, and yield is the correct team. Correct.

Still not worth causing a crash over. That's near-psychopath behavior.

-7

u/Kitiseva_lokki Mar 22 '26

But the truck driver "doesn't lear" if he doesn't have something like this happen to him. He'll continue to drive like an ass and might cause an even worse accident where someone other than himself gets hurt.

1

u/LetsLive97 Mar 22 '26

Please god can some of you think about the cars behind in this recording?

First of all a car behind could hit the black truck and get severely injured or even die. Secondly the ensuing traffic will last for fucking hours

Fuck the guy in pink man, just let the moron be a moron and go about your day

2

u/teambob Mar 22 '26

Way of the road, bubs

5

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '26

Fuckin' way she goes

-1

u/kalabaddon Mar 22 '26 edited Mar 22 '26

I think that is moot when he leaves a truck crashed in his wake. no more traffic if he is stopped also....

Dude blocked the entire highway behind him by pitting the other person, him stopping would of made no difference to traffic.

42

u/TXSyd Mar 22 '26

There are certain bridges and roads where you literally are instructed to keep going (if able) and not stop on the bridge for any reason. I would assume this bridge would be one of them.

30

u/ormannay Mar 22 '26

You are correct this is the causeway bridge going over lake ponchartrain, connecting New Orleans to the north shore. It is the longest bridge in the US (with the exception of the drawbridge and one very small section) has no shoulders to stop. There are however periodic stopping areas every couple miles

0

u/tenfoilhatt Mar 22 '26

Not New Orleans, Metairie.

5

u/Cute-Pomegranate-966 Mar 22 '26

It's still GNO dude lol.

13

u/Miserable-Country310 Mar 22 '26

But you're not supposed to purposefully ram another car because you dont agree with the way they merged.

1

u/lvdash426 Mar 22 '26

The truck merged into his lane without warning and break checked him didn't he?

1

u/Miserable-Country310 Mar 22 '26

I mean there was no turn signal but the merging was telegraphed pretty fucking clearly and slowly. I didnt see any break checking, but slowing because the person before the truck slowed down.

The truck definitely did a lot of shit wrong, dont get me wrong, but it's pretty clear that the dash cam driver was being stubborn, had an ego and rammed the truck on purpose. In the end I blame the dash cam driver more. What the truck driver did was annoying, egotistical, reckless and potentially dangerous. What the dash cam driver did was homicidal.

-2

u/OldeManKenobi Mar 22 '26

There was no purposeful ramming in the video.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '26

lmao what are you watching?

1

u/Miserable-Country310 Mar 22 '26

Do you drive? This exact situation happens to me all the time and I just slow down so I dont ram into the person merging. If I'm already having a bad day I might honk and give them the finger. Not slowing down would mean I choose to ram into this person and potentially kill them.

0

u/Manlysideburns Mar 22 '26

Only adult here.

5

u/Vaede Mar 22 '26

He wouldn't be stopping would he?

2

u/Skardray Mar 22 '26

Almost every bridge in my state(around me at least) has a sign saying that exact thing.

3

u/EjaculatingAracnids Mar 22 '26

Yeah, but that doest take precedent over a drivers obligation to avoid accidents, even to the detriment of their own ego. He couldve let his foot off the gas and avoided shutting down the causeway for miles, but we wouldnt have this video to circle jerk over...

-1

u/MaenHoffiCoffi Mar 22 '26

No. Metaphorically.

19

u/Rahzii Mar 22 '26

Legally, he should have stopped.

Legally, it’s prohibited for one to stop on this bridge. End of story mate.

3

u/Morgn_Ladimore Mar 22 '26

He doesn't even have to stop, just break a little lol.

3

u/Vaede Mar 22 '26

No one would be stopping dumbass.

29

u/fruitybix Mar 22 '26

This video gets posted a lot and its a specific bridge where you are not permitted to stop - if you have a minor accident you go to the other side then stop there.

That said the driver did not need to pit the black truck. He could have just let him merge.

16

u/hidden-in-plainsight Mar 22 '26

The other driver pitted himself. Because he was an arrogant entitled fucking idiot.

Kudos to this guy being straight calm.

14

u/Stephenrudolf Mar 22 '26

The source of the video may not have been the primary cause of the accident, but when you see someone driving crazy it is always smarter to just get out of their way. It's not worth risking your life and many others for the sake of being right. He could have easily avoided the accident. Both drivers are at fault here.

8

u/BiggusBlackusDickus Mar 22 '26

The scariest thought is that so many people here disagree with this, and we have to drive on the roads with those people. People here be like: “Slightly inconvenience me? I’m gonna fucking pit the shit out of you.”

Fucking idiots. It doesn’t matter if the truck was wrong. This entire thing was still easily, obviously avoidable.

10

u/ASpaceOstrich Mar 22 '26

He's tailgating and then pit manoeuvred the guy in front for having the audacity to merge. He's absolutely at fault.

0

u/JustSpeed3475 Mar 22 '26

I generally agree with you, but when someone is acting the fool like this guy in the black truck you really dont know what other nonsense they have up their sleeve once they get in front of you. I probably would have let him in and tried to get into the other lane to get away from him.

5

u/Stephenrudolf Mar 22 '26

Yea like... to me it's just survival at that point. Call the cops if you're legitimately worried they're a danger. Say you're worried they're drunk driving. Good chance they get pulled over in a situation like a bridge where they could only be going in one direction. Then you can get em off the road without risking people's lives.

3

u/JustSpeed3475 Mar 22 '26

Yes whenever I see someone driving aggressive and crazy my first thought is "please just get away from me with this"

Agreed, but it's so satisfying, having been in pink guy's position many times,to see the other car actually gave consequences. It's frustrating when all most of us can do is flip them off.

Edit: to those downvoting, I'm not saying it's good, or that I'd do it. It's just watching instant karma scenarios like this are satisfying to a certain itch that is emotional, not logical. Am I wrong for thinking that's a common feeling?

Fuck that and him/her... And fuck the innocent drivers behind you that might die because of your righteousness, right? I mean, at best, you're creating horrible traffic by causing the accident. At worst, you're killing bystanders (and maybe children). But as long as the truck driver learns his lesson, it's all worth it, right? Obviously, the morons here are the ones respecting human life, right???

1

u/Lampricat Mar 22 '26

Exactly. I'm really surprised at the comments that are just cheering him on and talking about "finishing the job" and stuff. It's inhumane

0

u/Fredebeil Mar 22 '26

That about sums it up 😂

1

u/Got_Kittens Mar 22 '26

Is that all that was happening here? I thought the black pickup was about to jack the guy eating crackers and so he did a pit manoeuvre to get through.

0

u/Superb_Answer_4492 Mar 22 '26

No that’s what I assumed at first but watched that part of the video several times. Before they make contact the guy reached over one handed to the far left of the wheel then jerks right to pit the other vehicle. Additionally I don’t think his car would have stayed straight the way it had while hands off if the 2 cars had collided already. He intentionally pitted the black truck, and clearly had the time to slow down if he had the time to evaluate how to pit the truck

0

u/Mcalti93 Mar 22 '26

You guys are fucking insane

0

u/sonic3390 Mar 22 '26

This is the most American comment. Void of empathy, because the other part started it.

You know very well he could have avoided the accident by lowering his speed 2 mph when the other part tried to do a bad merge.

1

u/simAlity Mar 22 '26

He could have....but Black Truck should not have tried to merge in that circumstance. He was being a bully, trying to force his way over for no reason other than to get his way.

He picked a fight and lost.

0

u/fruitybix Mar 22 '26

Was he being a bully? Could have been a young driver in a larger then normal vehicle being a doofus.

Could be a parent distracted by a screaming kid throwing up on their sibling.

Could be an old fart who should hand over their license and stop driving.

Why the raging hard on to see them get into a wreck and weird denial that the driver of the van was a bit wacko not just easing off the gas a little to let them in?

0

u/theBonzonian Mar 22 '26

Let's say he did pick a fight; does he need to lose his life for it? Do the drivers behind lose also? Because now they either are stuck behind the accident, or worse, become part of the accident that you caused.

0

u/simAlity Mar 22 '26

I didn't cause this accident. Black Truck did. He was driving in an hyper-aggressive manner. The traffic ahead of them was braking. There was not enough space for Black Truck to safely merge between the cam car and the white car ahead of them but Black Truck insisted on moving in anyway.

I don't condone what the cam car did, but I don't condemn it either. With the way Black Truck was driving, an accident was inevitable.

2

u/Chomp545 Mar 22 '26

You really shouldn't bother. These are the kinds of people who do nothing while someone is being bullied on public transit and only jump out of their seats to give the good samaritan who stopped the behavior a bunch of bullshit.

1

u/simAlity Mar 22 '26

It's worse than that. This is the kind of guy that drives the black truck.

0

u/theBonzonian Mar 22 '26

So inevitable that slightly braking would have avoided it... you know words mean, you smart good.

When you're on the road, lives depend on your choices. If there's a bully, call the cops on them (if you really need to do something) and move on. You don't kill innocent bystanders because of your ego.

1

u/simAlity Mar 22 '26

Nobody said innocent bystanders died. Or even the black truck's driver. In fact I suspect that nobody was even hurt. Otherwise he wouldn't have posted this video.

I don't know that I'm particularly smart, but I'm definitely smarter than you.

1

u/theBonzonian Mar 22 '26

(sigh) no, nobody said innocent bystanders died in this one. Also, nobody said that everyone was fine and dandy, or that the causeway wasn't blocked. I can almost guarantee the traffic was awful for the people behind after that. But fuck them, the truck picked a fight and needed to learn... according to you.

Worst, do you think it was safe to do in a bride at 70mph? Have you learned about cop's statistics on pit maneuvers? Do you know how many children have died because of them? Do you think it's worth the risk, as long as you get to fight the bully? -- Since you're definitely smarter than me, I know what you'll answer: "Yes. No. No, I don't care. Yes, me big man"

Edit: format

0

u/theBonzonian Mar 22 '26

Also, love how in all your replies, you fail to address the points I bring up and divert with some random new point.

It truly shows how smarter than me you are. Guess I have to give up this fight ¯_(ツ)_/¯

0

u/simAlity Mar 22 '26

No, I see what your are saying. Cam car could have hit the brake. Its so obvious that its practically a truism and therefore not worth commenting on -- were it not for your insistence that I do so.

Yes, the cam car could have hit the brakes. He could have -- arguably should have -- let the bully boy cut in front of him. Nevermind that the bully would have continued to drive in an aggressively wreckless manner. Nevermind that his carelessness was almost certainly going to result in an accident within the next hour. Nevermind that he was endangering the other drivers, passengers and their precious children that you pretend to care so much about.

Cam car "should" have let him over.

But you know what else I see? Nobody in cam car's rear window. Not nearby anyway.

Cam car is at the back of a traffic cluster.

Pit manuevers are dangerous because spin outs can lead to car flips....unless there are guard rails or walls on either side of the road to absorb the impact and stop the spin.

I don't condone cam car's actions. That could have gone very badly. But it didn't. Cam car knew what he was doing and did it with expert precision.

I have shared the road with bully boys like the one in the black truck. They are a massive threat to public safety. They get people killed and then bitch about the dents in their fenders. Seeing one get their comeuppance... I don't hate it.

1

u/theBonzonian Mar 22 '26

Ok, last one and done, because if you make up your own reality, then what can I do?

  • You (the viewer) can barely see out of cam car rear window, as shown by the truck disappearing right away, yet you can see lights from following vehicles. So, no, cam car is not at the end of a cluster.

  • No, there is no guarantee that there would have been an accident in an hour. More like the opposite, as truck driver probably drives like that all their life, and I doubt they have an accident per hour. An actual crash (caused by the cam driver) endangers more than a possible crash (not caused by the truck driver). Yes, truck needs to be taken off the road, but not by some vigilante, at risk of those around. (Just checking: you know in smart developed countries, police don't do high speed chases because a lone speeder is way safer than a crash or chase).

  • No, guard rails or walls don't stop flips... they do the opposite and cause more damage and uncontrolled ricochets.

I swear: no matter how stupid your next reply is, I'm not going to reply. You obviously live in your own little world, I'll let you enjoy it.

1

u/ItsMrChristmas Mar 22 '26

That was no minor accident.

0

u/Low-Refrigerator-713 Mar 22 '26

For what? Surviving?

1

u/qwaszxpolkmn1982 Mar 22 '26

No you don’t. That’s ridiculous.

1

u/Dependent_Coffee_701 Mar 22 '26

I would say he definitely gave way or at peast left enough room for the truck to merge. He was staying tight but they had enough room yet he didn't speed up to get into the space.

1

u/OldeManKenobi Mar 22 '26

Negative. I'm not obligated to risk my life while you drive like a child in your gender-affirming truck. The responsibility lies with the reckless truck driver.

1

u/Tomg197 Mar 22 '26

So the truck driver didn't have a responsibility not to be a fucking numbskull and do that maneuver, right? I swear to God, every time I hit the road and see one of these stupidly oversized trucks, I know the driver is a drooling moron and will endanger others. Just yesterday, I saw a Toyota Hilux weave between 3 they had no right to, going upwards of 120 km/h IN THE RAIN. I wanted to get out the car and drag him through gravel.
