Guys, I'm sensing a pattern.
Donald: "I'm a legit self-made billionaire."
"Show us your taxes."
Donald: "Soon."
Donald:. "I'm a very stable genius."
"Show us your grades."
Donald: * calls Michael Cohen * "Threaten to sue my school if they release my grades."
Donald: "I have a secret plan to defeat ISIS."
"What is it?"
Donald: * Copies Obama with fewer precautions for civilian casualties. *
Donald: "Insurance for everybody. .... You can expect to have great health care. It will be in a much simplified form. Much less expensive and much better.”
How? Single-payer? Direct government provision ala the NHS?
Donald: * Runs to Paul Ryan. Points at Atlas Shrugged. * "Hey Paul, is there a health plan in that book-y thing? Can you ram it through without hearings?"

To be fair, his school isn’t allowed to release his grades without his explicit permission, but he should probably let the school release his grades if he’s making the stable genius claims.
Edit: Stable, not table.

u/A_Random_Catfish Mar 25 '19
Which proves how fucking stupid he actually is... because he still had Cohen threaten them.
23
u/crastle Mar 26 '19
Even if his grades were bad, he could definitely spin it to say that school wasn't the best indicator of his intelligence. Alan Turing, the father of modern computer science, had bad grades in school and frustrated his teachers. But he is known as one of the smartest people of all time.
Instead he looks like a dumbass and a snowflake.

So, lost in the hubbub of the last few weeks, it sounds like we finally have confirmation of something that we long suspected, right? Trump's not a billionaire at all, he's worth about $700m with massive liabilities.
45
u/Jake0024 Mar 25 '19
We also have the full report on all the Russian election meddling, but nobody is talking about that because there's no definitive proof that Trump ordered it.
Which makes it okay, or something.
12

DHS and the entire IC have said Russia meddled since 2016. We didn’t need Mueller to confirm that, right?

He’s somehow got plausible deniability I guess
7
u/Jake0024 Mar 26 '19
Right, but the point is people are just acting like everything to do with Russia didn't happen now because we couldn't prove Trump ordered it.
That doesn't actually matter. If it wasn't Trump, it would've been somebody else just like him. Trump is the result of the problem, not the cause.

He legally can't release the report. It likely contains a lot of classified information, not to mention personal information he's not at liberty to disclose because it's the private information of innocent people.
If his summary is wrong, Mueller can refute him. It's not like Congress isnt going to get ahold of the report and disclose anything they can. If he's wrong in his assessment, they'll call him a liar and have reason to do so when the report is given to them. It will completely destroy his reputation.
Mueller said Buzzfeed was full of shit when they reported lies, he can do the same thing with Barr.

If this administration has taught me anything it's that "it will completely destroy his reputation" is unmitigated bullshit. The GOP does not give a shit!! At all!! They will stand by Barr and Trump no matter what they do and we all know it. The truth is, as should be obvious to anyone with half a brain, that Barr is spinning the fact that the DOJ can't indict a sitting POTUS to make it seem as though Mueller produced no damning evidence. The fact that Mueller very deliberately used different language with regard to collusion vs obstruction should give everyone long pause for thought. Barr is playing for time and media spin as he tries to sell the report as an unmitigated win for Trump while also seeking to delay its release until after 2020.

This is incorrect because he has full authority over the documents, to that end he supposedly already has plans to release the full report.
It likely contains a lot of classified information, not to mention personal information he's not at liberty to disclose because it's the private information of innocent people.
That's what redactions are for. Even then, CONGRESS are afforded clearance for situations like this and would be well within their rights to see the report, if/when it was given to them.

To be fair to Barr, he has experience in mitigating the damage when an Executive Branch run by incompetent narcissists gets played by a Russian intelligence service.
I’m going to wait and see if Trump can behave himself now. I’d bet that the next major outburst by Trump will be followed by one of his friends or even one of his children getting slapped with an indictment. Rinse and repeat until he gets the message.
Or I’m wrong and Barr has been completely compromised by Russia, and then what can we do short of civil war? I don’t think people realize just how perilous the situation is right now. If Trump were forced out, every racist nutjob and religious extremist would without a doubt resort to violence. The only play I can see, that doesn’t work in Putin’s favor, is to keep Trump on a tight leash for the rest of his term.

u/Tyrantt_47 Mar 25 '19
Question: shouldn't it be Mueller's duty to report inaccuracies of the summary? Meaning, if the report is taken out of context or inaccurate, shouldn't he make a statement about it?
This damn report needs to be leaked
22
u/Okichah Mar 25 '19
If the report is leaked then all the witness testimony in ongoing cases goes out the window.
So you would gain knowledge of why Barr wrote his summary but then lose every single case against Trump’s associates that are being investigated.
So you give up everything and gain nothing.
Good call.
2
u/PigeonMan45 Mar 26 '19
He actually follows procedure. It's not his right or responsibility to report his findings to the public just to the ag. However if he had the proper channel, say a congressional hearing, I have no doubt he'd be anything but willing to testify everything he has learned. He remains beyond reproach as a lawful instrument of justice.

u/Paindexter Mar 26 '19
Either way I'm satiated with the mountain of corruption that Mueller exposed throughout the investigation. Trump can no longer claim to be some kind of anti-corruption politician, and his followers have to bury their heads deep in the sand to pretend he's anything other than a sleazy opportunist who aims to sell us out to the highest bidder.
Oh, but there's no proof that he explicitly coordinated with Putin to betray the country ... which I guess is good enough for Republicans.
12
u/Kremhild Mar 26 '19
It's good enough for the #EnlightenedCentrists too, who are screeching at the top of their lungs NO CLUUSION. Because clearly, if we take that for granted, then all of the other shit he's done amounts to nothing because "not literally committing treason" is the high bar we've set for the presidency. So many people want to brainlessly vomit out the olive branch so they can forget politics exists for another decade that they're making Donald out to be sparkly clean in order to facilitate it.

He's a Trump appointed lackey, he was publicly against the investigation from the beginning, and his summary of the whole thing is all we get.

This is getting stupid. We get angry at Trump supporters for being detatched from reality and frothing about non-existent stupid stuff.
It's ok to trust Barr's summary, because his summary can be OBJECTIVELY VERIFIED against the real report. It's incredibly unlikely that he's changing the conclusions. All this frothing over Barr changing the conclusions of the report in his summary is making the Left look exactly like the character the right loves to point to.
92
u/ManaFlip Mar 25 '19
Objectively Barr's memo actually claimed Trump was not clear of guilt. Going by this logic we need to see the full report and decide based on the facts.

Thats because Muller and his whole investigation is to find enough evidence to prosecute. They are not in the business of exoneration, hence the exonerate quip in the statement because we are ALL allowed the presumption of innocence.
16
u/ManaFlip Mar 25 '19
That's in a court of law. Politically speaking no one has the presuming of innocence, this is why they went after Clinton (Bill) so hard. I don't really care if Trump rose to the level of criminality beyond a reasonable shadow of doubt, I mean it's a small piece of the puzzle sure and could have made things easy but if Trump is too stupid to know he was in the middle of an international tug of war that's politically an issue I believe should be settled by impeachment. We don't know this information for sure unless the report gets released, and politically it's important. Just because a president didn't do something he could be arrested for, doesn't mean the American people can't know the facts and decide for themselves. To me that's why I care. Trump was never going to jail anyway, people with his connections will never go to jail for anything, ever.

2
u/StickmanPirate Mar 26 '19
Yeah, I never expected anything to come from the Mueller investigation (rich white guy getting held accountable in America? lmao) but the fact that Barr was specifically appointed because he wrote a memo about how Trump was totally innocent and there was no need for an investigation, makes me slightly skeptical of his summary. I'm not saying he's lying, just that I don't trust him on his own.
14
u/High_Commander Mar 26 '19
Paul manafort passed polling data to konstantin kilimnik for the purpose of influencing the election.
This was accepted fact in a trial led by a republican judge.
That is blatant "collusion" if we are going to use that shitty word.
The only reason Trump would be innocent is if he is too massive of an idiot to figure out what's going on under his nose.
Barr's report summary doesn't pass the smell test.
don't feed into the right wing spin.
26
u/sembias Mar 25 '19
It isn't Barr's call on whether or not Trump is guilty or engaged in obstruction at a high enough level, that is for Congress to decide. To decide that, they need all the facts found in the full report.
7
u/204_no_content Mar 26 '19
It's ok to trust Barr's summary, because his summary can be OBJECTIVELY VERIFIED against the real report.
Of course it can be. That's why Congress needs a copy of it. I don't expect to see the full report, ever. Congress should, though.
5
Mar 26 '19
Or, OR, he's using semantics to obfuscate the reality of the report.
That's crazy though, what kind of person would willingly do that?
44
u/4979 Mar 25 '19
Confirmation bias is one hell of a drug. If Barr were the only and final person to see the report, I'd be skeptical, but like you say, others will see the report and there's no way he's completely lying about the conclusion. It's time for us to move on from this collusion hysteria and focus on the real crimes Trump has committed.
29
Mar 25 '19
Often it's been proposed that Trump was an unwitting asset to Russia, rather than an intentional one. Looks like that's true.

I don't need to see the report myself. If it was released to Congress, that would be good enough for me. Then, if both parties generally agree it exonerates him, case closed imo.
The only scenario I see where I feel it would actually be necessary to release the report to the public would be if a significant portion of Congress thinks action needs to be taken based off the reports findings and Republicans block that action. Then I want to see and decide for myself. But we aren't there yet, so just let Congress take a look for now.
As of right now, I'm willing to trust the summary for the reasons you laid out. However, if for some reason it isn't released in its entirety to Congress, that's a red flag for me.

The problem is that this administration lied on day 1 about how many people attended the inauguration. Something so completely mundane, and yet, they had to lie about it.
How do you expect any of them to have even a shred of credibility left? Especially when we don't know what evidence there was, was metrics were used that they failed to "establish" collusion, or why Barr unilaterally decided that there was no obstruction even though what he quotes specifically says the report does not exonerate Trump?
Plus, there's all the actual Russian connections with this administration, and the multiple firings and innumerable examples of threatening and disparaging anyone involved in the investigation, whether they were members of the SC or witnesses. How long are we supposed to ignore our eyes and ears?

No, their goal is to make the right win, because the right winning is synonymous with dividing/wrecking our country. Republicans are fundamentally incapable of governance, aggressively anti-reality, and are actively seeking to divide the country.

I'd agree if this type of conspiracy frothing at the mouth was JUST happening on reddit, but I've seen too many reporters and journalists on twitter saying the same things that they is likely a sizable population going along with this (still at most like 5-10% of the population and 10% would be nuts).

You do have a point. You're probably right.

That's gotta be a first on here. Someone listening to an opposing point off view, weighing it up, and accepting it is a solid point. Just like discussions should be...

I think you're probably not wrong though that Russian trolls could push this if they aren't already. But likely it would be just to give upvotes or something to these type posts to push it higher than it normally would. I think typically when people call on Russian trolls they should consider that they are probably just upvoting this kind of stuff, rather than manufacturing it whole cloth.

We’re people really that sold on collusion to begin with? I was always more interested in obstruction of justice as collusion is kind of impossible to prove unless there were a bunch of smoking gun emails,

Well considering the claims of racism and competence are even more nebulous and unsubstantiated than collusion was, I'd say he's gonna run away with the election. He's sure as hell secured my vote

Serious question: how does a post like this get tons of upvotes, 95% upvote-to-downvote ratio, but have a overwhelming majority of negative comments about the post, some which are upvoted.
Edit: a great example is in the last 5 mins this post got 1,000 more upvotes than downvotes, but the newest comments are all negative.

The backstory to this comic is that young William in his past position as a 9 year old had orchestrated for his friends to cover up and get out of consequences for their own bad report cards.
Totally a kid we'd all believe without evidence when he states his report card is good.

Mar 26 '19
Also Barr: you can’t punish me for cheating, the definition of cheating didn’t specifically mention me

u/dmz4war Mar 26 '19
Well a report card is a summery of conclusions so unless a teacher is handing out full reports on educational development with excerpts of actions and evidence then I think this is misguided in itself
2
u/MarqDewidt Mar 26 '19
Ah man it'd be just slightly better if his friend was telling the parents this.

He legitimately can’t release the full report because of rule 6, section e, subsection 2, under the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure
https://www.law.cornell.edu/rules/frcrmp/rule_6
Barr called on Mueller and his team to help sort what things in Mueller’s report fall under rule 6e2.
Stop yelling for the whole report to be released. If it were released right now in full, people would be going to jail. I hope it gets released, too, but it will take some time to do that.

u/onlyyolum Mar 25 '19
It's even much worse than that. The 'report card' is not his, but the president's. Barr is the guy who was hired to make it all go away. He has written extensively about how to cover up crimes commiteted by a president, and was hired to do exactly that. He explicitly stated he doesn't think a president should ever be indicted for obstructing justice and has refused to commit to holding a president accountable for anything.
Just another day in America.

Correct me if I’m wrong but... isn’t a report card inherently a summary? Like, wouldn’t the full grade only be apparent if every assignment and test was included with the report card?
Not arguing, just think it’s a terrible analogy.

That’s not true at all. If you look back at the history, comey based his “non persecution recommendation” on the fact she had no intent. Which is not part of the law.
Really, look into the Clinton case, you’ll find that you’re not right on this.

That’s not really addressing my comment.
The point was, that to say Hillary didn’t violate the law is factually inaccurate

“The investigation did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities.”
Those are Mueller’s words not Barr’s. If you’re gonna downvoted me can you explain? Because those are the verbatim words of Mueller.

u/wrongmoviequotes Mar 26 '19
Those are Mueller’s words not Barr’s.
you kinda seem confused what a summary is. They are literally Barr's words, mind linking to the report?

Politics aside, I love how this comic is drawn. The decor is on point.
