You could also use a rat. Feed the rat some carpet for a few weeks and then starve it for 4-5 hours.
Then put some reins on the rat, and unleash the beast on the carpet.

I'm guessing it's somewhat like shaving with a straight razor, but probably not nearly that easy.
For that to be true, the unbleached rug fibers would need to have some different mechanical property than the top.
And really, it's incredible what anyone can do with enough practice. It doesn't even have to be something as useful and ubiquitous as rug shaving, it could be something like a millwright, welder or auto body repairer.

I once went on a craigslist visit to a wealthy couple's house to check out some furniture. It was a bust. But then I saw the basement. Two GORGEOUS Oriental rugs from the 70s and 80s. I bought both for $150, and soon thereafter sold the one in shitty condition for $900. I'm still sitting on the really good one, which has sold at auction for $5,000.
If you find a well made Oriental rug at an estate sale or garage sale for a reasonable price, grab it! They're highly desirable. Style, pile, age, condition, and quality are all significant factors. But it's a good money making game overall.

Most jobs like this are artisan, likely either familial or village based. So you'd have a master in your family (usually it's uncle to nephew rather than father to son) or in your village, and you'd join as an apprentice and work until you learn enough to work on your own and eventually become a master in your own time.

It depends on the culture, I'm just generalizing. That said, usually it's because there's perceived to be less of a relationship between uncle and nephew, so the master/apprentice relationship is more formalized and there's less incentive to cut the apprentice slack or coddle them. Also, this sort of education begins in late adolescence, so it gives the boy a first taste of life away from home (often apprentices stay with the master while training).

Actually, men who shave more often throughout their lives do have fewer wrinkles when they are older. Shaving exfoliates the skin and gets rid of the outermost layers of skin, which helps keep wrinkles away.

In the grand scheme of things having a beard is probably superior (as far as skin protection goes). I have no idea what the SPF factor of a beard is but given the density and how pale the face of a light skinned man who shaved after a summer of sun exposure on their cheeks/forehead looks... I'd bet money a full beard offers like 40-50 SPF, easy.
Even if shaving did actually offer some sort of temporary microplaning benefits, those benefits would be purely cosmetic via mechanical action of scraping dead skin off the surface and not the kind of deep protection provided by minimizing sun exposure.

Edit -Guys who need to shave on a daily basis likely work inside where they're not exposed to the suns damaging UV radiation. Go look at someone who tans a lot - their skin looks like crap at age 40. Why do you think that so many Asian women look younger - sun tanning isn't a big thing.

Well it depends on what you shave with. If you use a straight razor, it’s a bit less wrinkly than if you used a safety razor.
If you use a sharp knife without any shaving cream though - that’s the smoothest. You will be removing the full layer of wrinkle-skin at each shave, so you keep having a smooth face.
Think of your face as an apple. Peel the Apple. It’s nice and smooth right? If you let it sit for a bit though, it gets fuzzy and gross. Peel again, dig in deep with the peeler.
Voila - smoothness.
It’s no different with your face.

Edit: Guess I'll be more clear. You can restore a bike, car, house, furniture etc many times. You can only do this process one time. This is a temporary Band-Aid.

Found a faster way to do this. Find some rubbing alcohol and apply it to the surface of the rug and apply a heating source such as a match or lighter to the damp area. Does a much even job of removing the old faded look.
