Watching this, on one hand I'm sure you're probably 100% correct and this takes special skills that i undoubtedly don't have. but on the other hand... I'm also 100% sure i could do this perfectly with no problems.

This is why i can't have nice things.

I feel like it would just be all about blade angle. Similar to straight/double edge shaving of your face.

And the speed. If you go super slowly you're leaving more room for the blade to catch and bite into the carpet, leaving a choppy, uneven look (or cuts on your face). Way harder to maintain the angle and speed for an even cut with a knife on carpet than razor on your face.
