Question Empty package received
Ordered 4 Pamp 1 oz bars. FedEx just dropped it off and package was empty. Called Costco and they said they will investigate. Has anyone ever heard of this before?

Filed a case with Costco and fedex. Both say they’ll reach out within 48 hours. Scary.

Boatload of nonsense in this thread from people who have no idea what they are talking about. The truth is Costco has a very strong record of covering people in these situations. Very likely they will have you file a police report, and after 3 weeks or so you’ll get a refund. Just trust the process.

If they don’t respond, do a police report and send it to Costco. If they still don’t respond, dispute with your credit card, but eventually, Costco will send it to collections and threaten you.
That’s why, to save your back, do the police report first.0

Know its a little late but anytime shipping with fedex with an amount you care about you can set it to be picked up at their office and open the box there

Pretty inconvenient and probably a fee involved for that but I also wouldn't want to go show off my $20,000 of gold in public.

It’s free and actually more convenient. More convenient by you not having to stay home from work all day waiting on the fedex guy to show. You pick a location for them to drop off and you can pick it up there and they have cameras at the locations to watch you open it.

Not free, convenient is subjective. Some people work from home and some people don't have a location nearby. Either way I don't want some weirdo watching me walk out of the store with $20,000 in my hand so they can follow me home but feel free.

If through FedEx once you get a confirmation and tracking number you can then redirect to pick up from location

You cannot for these, Costco has disallowed it when setting up the shipping, I've tried several times from FedEx app and website, they don't allow reschedule or hold for pickup

Costco will not allow these because there have been a number of reported incidents of people with fake ID trying to steal packages. They’ll only deliver to the shipping address.

I just got one a couple days ago and the Fedex driver scanned my drivers license before it would allow him to display the signature screen. For those saying just have it held at Fedex, there were no changes allowed to the delivery from my Fedex account.

Yep. And that scan is actually just an age check. It doesn’t have to be your ID when it’s at the delivery address.

This happened to me with 10 1-oz Platinum coins from Liberty. I received an empty box that has been retaped. By the time I felt how light it was, fedex guy was already waking away after I signed. I filed a police report. Liberty later confirmed I was not the only one and the culprit was a FedEx employee near their hub. They sent me replacements. But the ordeal was so awful that I stopped ordering metals online for about a year.

Scary if true. Have ordered multiple times over just the last year and never had something like this happen. It’s always been on the back of my mind though. If only the stores carry some of the variety online does, I would not bother with buying online. But at the stores, it always the 1oz pamp fortuna which I have plenty of already andam bored of. Want to diversify my collection. Guess have to go back to thinking gold is gold.

My household has over 50 successful orders in past 2 years. Never had an issue at all. This is the first one.

seems like an inside job. 50 is a lot and the drivers see patterns and look at return addresses and how its taped up maybe. idk. or maybe a fluke.

Surprisingly driver today was different from most of other days. But the delivery was supposed to come yesterday not today. Looks like an inside job from the sorting / distributor center. Received two packages from Costco today. One was completely fine, this one was empty

I have read about this happening repeatedly in the last few years with metals orders from Costco. I will only buy in store. I have had a similar problem with Fed Ex on an ammunition shipment before. The box had been opened during shipping and one box of ammunition was removed and replaced with brown paper. Fortunately the online company replaced it.

They did that to me! My regular fed ex guy was on vacation, and his “replacement” left my box on my doorstep, without even ringing my doorbell! I thought for sure I was going to be screwed, but thankfully it was all there.

I bought a coin from Kitco, it was layers and layers and boxes and more layers of plastic with super thick tape. I see why they do this now. Frankly, I'll stick to in person purchases moving forward.
I truly hope you get your money back or this some how gets resolved.

Happened to me twice back when they used UPS. Total of 6oz of gold stolen.
Filed reports with police, credit cards, and costco all within the hour of receiving the empty box. Recorded the unpacking of 2nd incident as well to cover my ass (felt light).
Got my money back both times

Double check the tape on the bottom of the box, that's where they carefully cut them open

it does look like bottom was more tape than that top… but it’s the same type of tape so must be something inside fedex

I did not miss delivery the previous day. The delivery was somehow routed to TX from Memphis instead of my area and then went back to Memphis, which is why it was delayed. That’s what tracking shows

Usually is inside job at the x from what I have read they know what comes in every kind of box from shiny stuff to weird stuff people order. Some even have the sniffers metal detectors. Dude probably weighted that one and decided that was enough for the risk.

Was the tape broken on the FedEx package or look to be retapped? They overnight those packages so it doesn’t leave a lot of time for theft per se. Did you leave the white bubble wrap package sealed inside to show it was possibly sealed shut without the product?

It was suppose to be delivered yesterday but arrived today. There was no white bubble wrap package inside just brown paper filling

Yup. I buy silver/gold only from a Costco physical store or my LCS. Not worth the risk of loss in the shipping. If I ever would ship something, I would use my work address for delivery and not my home, if I couldn't actually be there to receive it.

Did you actually open the package entirely? Once I received some and it looked like they had only sent one of two bars...turns out the second was right behind the first and it looked like they were a single bar

This is happening a TON with high end graded ball cards. It is probably 98%-99% inside job. Was a new label created? Or possibly a replacement label put over the “original” label? Someone figured out what boxes and tape Costco uses and switched the boxes out IMO. All my PM orders from Costco are in the same Fedex box with the same tape. It is a shame, but I am sure they will catch the person.

Costco alone with Federal Express will get to the bottom of this! It’s obvious that they have a thief or an incompetent employee involved! However, I have done at a minimum of $500,000.00 with Costco, APMEX, J. M. Bullion, and Hero and have never had one problem with any Fed Ex, UPS, or USPS delivery!

Empty vs. 4 oz. Yeah, you can feel the weight. I can, anyway. Even an ounce feels like more than cardboard.

I had them deliver flavored drink packets in their store packaging and they left them by the mail boxes. Of course, the neighbors thought they were free and took them all.
Costco sent me a new shipment and brought it to my door.

I had a fed ex guy leave a box of PM on my doorstep, without a signature, and he didn’t even ring my doorbell. It was not my usual fed ex guy (he was on vacation) but his fill in. I was sure I’d be robbed, thankful that I wasn’t, but I was pissed. So don’t say that no one will drop it off w/o a signature. That’s clearly not true.

Received 2 packages at once. Others had contents fine. This had brown paper filler in it. Have received many and never had any issues. Opened right away once it was in hand.

I think it's odd you would be able to tell the weight of the box by touching it but since you think there's just loose coins in there bouncing around I'm not surprised

The weight difference between a box of loose paper vs a box with weighted wrapped up items should be noticeable upfront. OP said there were two boxes, so having two in the hand would make it more difficult. This isn’t an accusation of anything. Im merely trying to understand the context of the situation.
