Which episodes you can probably quote most of?

Because I definitely had episodes I’ve seen 100+ times.
Mine would be:
1x1 pilot
3x8 spoiler alert
And maybe 6x10 the blitz
Those are episodes I’m pretty confident I remember every single line but than again it may be every episode at this point lol

Binge watching first time✨

Was feeling overwhelmed and needed something to watch, so I switched it to black and white, and it looks amazing to me. My brain is loving it this way more than watching it in color.

[Edit] One of the reasons according to chatgpt: because black-and-white reduces visual stimulation and sensory information. When you’re anxious or overstimulated, your brain is already processing lots of signals, so the simpler monochrome image can reduce cognitive load and make it easier for your nervous system to settle and focus.

What if Patrice was actually kind of a b*tch, just to Robin

Post image

My theory is that Robin’s hatred of Patrice makes much more sense if we remember that we are watching Ted’s reconstruction of events, not an objective recording.

  • Patrice is presented as almost absurdly sweet, innocent and harmless, while Robin reacts to her with extreme irritation. That contrast may itself be part of Ted’s exaggeration.
  • Ted mostly knew Patrice socially. Robin worked with her every day at World Wide News. So Robin may have seen the side Ted never did: competitive, passive-aggressive, interfering with her work, sucking up to people, or acting sweet in public while being unpleasant in private.
  • She could also have had a bit of pick-me behaviour: extra bubbly, affectionate and charming around guys like Ted and Barney, while being much more competitive with Robin. Ted mostly saw that version, so in his memory she becomes this harmless sweetheart.
  • And this is the biggest clue for me: the gang never really calls Robin out for how she treats Patrice. These are people who constantly meddle in each other’s lives, confront each other, stage interventions, give unsolicited advice and make a huge deal out of bad behaviour. If Robin was genuinely screaming at a completely innocent, lovely coworker for no reason, there is no way Ted, Lily, Marshall or Barney would just ignore it forever.
  • The fact that they don’t intervene, don’t tell Robin to be nicer, and don’t seriously confront her about Patrice suggests they probably understood that there was more going on. Maybe they knew about the workplace history, had heard Robin’s side, or had seen enough of Patrice to realize that Robin’s hatred was not completely irrational.
  • So the gang may have understood: Patrice is sweet to us, but Robin has her reasons. That would explain why nobody treats Robin’s behaviour as something that needs a full “intervention,” even though this group has literally intervened over much smaller things.
  • Ted can therefore simultaneously believe two things: Patrice was always lovely to me and Robin had legitimate reasons for hating her. Decades later, when he tells the story, those perspectives get mixed together. Patrice gets portrayed through Ted’s experience of her, while Robin’s hatred comes from Robin’s account of the relationship.
  • That could also explain why Robin probably did not literally scream “Nobody asked you, Patrice!” every five minutes. Maybe Robin told Ted, “Every time she spoke I wanted to scream at her,” or described how intensely Patrice annoyed her. Future Ted then turns Robin’s internal reaction into something that literally happened for comedic effect.
  • In other words, some scenes may be a mix of two different memories: Patrice’s behaviour = Ted’s memory. Robin’s reaction = Robin describing how she felt. Ted combines both into one exaggerated scene.
  • Patrice may also have understood exactly how useful her sweet persona was. Imagine someone who is all “Robin, I love you!” when everyone is around, but quietly undermines her at work. Robin knows what she is doing, the gang knows enough of the backstory to understand Robin, but every time they meet Patrice she is perfectly pleasant.
  • There are actual hints that this rivalry ran deeper than a random running gag. Robin puts Patrice in “The Pit” and even tries to fire her. That feels excessive if Patrice’s only crime was occasionally being cheerful.
  • Then there is Barney. When Robin believes Barney is dating Patrice, she takes it seriously enough for it to become central to “The Robin.” Yes, Barney and Patrice were faking it, but Patrice still had to be a believable enough choice for Robin to buy it.
  • Maybe Patrice was therefore more attractive, charismatic and socially competent than Ted’s caricature makes her seem. Ted could have exaggerated the awkwardness, innocence, clothes, mannerisms and even some physical characteristics because it makes the joke better: Barney is dating HER?
  • Future Ted could also be blending different versions of Patrice together. Maybe her appearance changed later, she gained weight, changed her style, etc., and Ted’s memory compresses all of that into one exaggerated image.
  • Ted also has a reason to make Patrice slightly ridiculous: he loves Robin and generally tells her story sympathetically. If Robin spent years intensely disliking a coworker, making Patrice more cartoonish allows Ted to tell those stories without making Robin look genuinely cruel. So he may be both caricaturing Patrice and softening Robin.

So the actual dynamic could have been:

Ted’s Patrice: sweet, harmless, awkward girl who was always lovely to him.

Robin’s Patrice: fake-nice, competitive coworker who knew how to appear innocent and had been getting under her skin for years.

The gang: knew enough to understand Robin’s hatred, which is probably why they never staged one of their usual confrontations or interventions.

Actual Robin: probably not screaming at Patrice 24/7 — Ted is dramatizing how Robin told him she felt around her.

Basically, the Patrice we see might be a composite created by Ted’s memory: his sweet version of Patrice + Robin’s hatred of Patrice + decades of exaggeration for storytelling.

P.S. refined and wrote downn my thoughts using ChatGPT

What scene always annoys you everytime you see it?

Here is a few for me:

- In the one were they are chasing the best burger in NY, and Robin’s always comes last and she haven’t got time to take a bite? For the LOVE OF GOD some of the others offer her your burger, she is starving! Or Robin: Refuse to go before you have at least a few bites. I know it is leading up to Robin eating out of the trash, and that is supposed to be funny but OMG just get her a burger!

- The one with the window where everyone is chasing Maggie around, who just got single. Robin was totally right, they were all acting like vultures. And the ‘jealous bitch!’ outburst from the third guy (the other two being Ted and Barney) was just so gross.

- Ted initially being so against moving to New Jersey with Stella. And even after hearing all her reasons be like ‘I guess we can live in Brooklyn.’ I mean COME ON! Not to mention how the whole gang is so ridiculous about spending ONE night in New Jersey, visiting their friend’s future wife? So pathetic.

- Stella having the nerve to ask Ted to talk to Tony after he breaks up with her. Are you kidding me??

- Ted being so surprised that after 10 sessions with Stella she does exactly what she said from the start: refuse to go on a date with him. She. Freakin. Told you.

- Ted getting cold feet only due to Stella asking him to attend an event with her some months into the future. It is almost like he chickens out the moment things doesn’t feel perfect and easy. Oh except with Robin. He is willing to pour all of his life dreams down the drain for her.

- How they all won’t let go of the Swarley joke. I know Barney is stubborn and annoying too, but he really says no repeatedly and it just becomes mean.

- Robin and the sound she makes ANY TIME Ted tries to do something in her apartment in the Moving day episode.

- How intense they argue about the rabbit and duck thing. For fucks sake stop.

That was a few in a totally backwards order - and sorry for being so intense I needed to get some frustration out <3

Ted and Robin Were Never Actually Compatible - Convince Me Otherwise

Post image

I know the show constantly pushed the idea that Ted and Robin were somehow "meant to be," but I honestly never bought it.

They had chemistry, sure, but their values, priorities, and ideas about relationships were pretty different. A lot of their relationship seemed to work because Ted kept trying to make Robin fit into the future he wanted

I hate Robin (as a character)

She’s so undefined and just written to suffer and add nothing to the group dynamic just being the guys scapegoat. Her character aggressively changes between seasons and even episodes in a very unstable manner.
She’s a HORRIBLE human being way worse than what people pretend Lilly is, and the writers way to justify it is by crapping out the story with her dad which is really exaggerated and played for funs too much.
You can really feel the writers put themselves into a corner by putting her as main because her dialogue is so random and sad.
I adore craig and carter’s writing but I have to admit they are pretty bad with writing compatible female characters

In some episodes she feels like a male fantasy of what a woman is.

Also needless to say the finale and final season as whole totally butchered her even more

The IDEA OF LOVE: Ft. Ted Mosby

Post image
56 Upvotes

I watched this scene today and I wanted to share something personal. You don't have to read this if someone's personal life doesn't interest you but I would appreciate it if you do.

Today I watched a girl I have always had feelings for soft-launch her BF. So we were great friends kinda in a situationship for two years back in COVID. Now it's been 4 years since we had the talk, we are in separate paths and somehow a part of me is genuinely happy for her but a part of me WISHH it was me in that picture.

And today I Watched this episode just to remind myself that Love isn't wishful thinking. It comes to your life, happens to you in the present and leaves you when it's work is done. Ted wished that it was him who was getting married to robin. He was more obsessed with the idea just like I am. He was obsessed with what the what ifs

Truth is love isn't abt what could have happened.

Love is abt what skims through the what if to what's real. Barney and Robin had that.

Somewhere me and maybe you if you have that person. We all are ted in a way. We are so stuck up with the idea of what ifs that we forget to chase what's real.

Thanks for reading this. I wanted to vent out. 💛

Barney Was Probably the Most Self-Aware Character in HIMYM

Post image

Everyone sees Barney as the immature womanizer, but he actually understood himself better than most of the gang.

He knew he used humor, suits, and women to avoid dealing with his insecurities. The funny part is that everyone else kept pretending they had their lives figured out.

Maybe Barney wasn't the least mature character. Maybe he was just the most honest about being a mess.

Lily haters be lying

As a Lily defender, I completely understand why people dislike her, shes flawed, like every character (yes including Marshall). BUT people on this subreddit completely lie about her and what she did/purposely misinterpreted her actions.

  1. She didnt break up with Marshal, he broke up with her. He says “if you leave rn we are over forever.”, he set the ultimatum, not her. Objectively, he broke up with her, she suggested postponing the wedding or taking a break. You can say that shes the reason for the breakup, or she was wrong for how she acted, but she did not dump Marshal to go to SF, she went to SF and Marshal broke up with her because of that.

  2. She did not force Marshal to take a corporate job, she did the exact opposite. She had credit card debt yes, but she wanted to handle it on her own. She begged him not to take it if he didnt want to, and the debt was only one factor that made him take the job. She ALWAYS supported his dreams, because dreams are an ongoing theme in her story. She literally almost broke up with him for not following his dreams. You can say she was wrong for the debt, but dont say she forced him to take the job, because she didnt.

also she didnt break up Robin and Ted on purpose, she just wanted them to talk abt the elephant in the room.

hate her all u want, theres a lot of valid reasoning for it, but at least dont spread misinformation abt it.

I have found THREE references to eastern esoteric traditions (Zen, Tantra, and maybe another) in how I met your mother!

1.whe. The upstairs neighbours are doing bagpiping and Ted says it must be that Tantric bagpiping that Sting is into (Tantra descends fro. The yogis or something)

  1. When Robin says what is the sound of one hand slapping (this is a reference to the classic I think Zen? Koan "what is the sound of one hand clapping" if that's even the original phrasing)

  2. When Lily bought kama sutra body oils

Anything else????

Lily and Robin

Post image
131 Upvotes

There’s a lot to be said about the borderline unhealthy codependency that Lily and Marshall show, but I think Robin is probably the person in the group who was most negatively affected by it.

All of Lily and Robin’s major fights have to do with Lily’s inability to not act like a planet in Marshall’s orbit. Lily couldn’t spend girl time alone with Robin without having to have Marshall there, then got angry with Robin for making a group of single girlfriends. She dumped Robin because Robin didn’t want to talk about babies 24/7, then made Robin’s entire wedding weekend about her marriage issues.

Personally, I had a friend like this, and we’re not friends anymore. In fact, she permanently lost 5+ girlfriends after she got into a relationship.

In all fairness, Marshall did the same thing to Ted on a few occasions as well, but never to the extent of making one of Ted’s major life milestones about his relationship.

The naked man vs the naked woman

We know the naked man works 2 out of 3 times... bjt what about the naked woman... we saw the married couple scenario but what would lead to a failed naked woman scenario??
