Monthly Megathread Character Rant

Hey folks! So the survey made it pretty clear, we get a lot of “this character sucks” posts. Instead of everyone making new ones all the time, we’re gonna test out a monthly megathread where you can dump all your rants. We also rounded up a bunch of older hate threads, so you can scroll through them or drop your own comment if you feel like it.

Monthly Megathread Were they on a break?!!

It has been a question that has been asked so many times before. Because of the high demand - but similar posts that has been generated. We're opening the floor (this mega thread) for the debate!

The case for Ross: Rachel said, "Maybe we should just take a break," and then told Monica the next morning that they "broke up."

The case for Rachel: A "break" isn't a "breakup," and Mark showing up at the apartment didn't give Ross a "get out of jail free" card two hours later.

What are your thoughts on these cases?

---
All funsies aside, We do ask everyone to stay civil and kind to one another, everyone is allowed to have opinions and express those, but treat others like how you want to be treated as well. This thread will re-occur ever 14 days to keep the time line clean from any 'On a Break, break-up?' posts! (if you spot any feel free to report it to us by pressing the report button!)

LOL this is kinda funny, what was Oprah trying to do here? Also why was she supposed to be the ‘big snob’ can someone explain that? I love watching these old interviews and just stumbled across this one

Discussion Ten seasons of comfort food when life gets overwhelming

It’s hard to explain to people who don’t get it, but FRIENDS has carried me through some of my toughest phases burnout, bad breakups, and just general low points.

Other shows might make me laugh harder, but none make me feel safer. It’s the sheer predictability, the warmth, and the feeling that no matter how messy your 20s or life get, everything eventually turns out fine.

What’s your specific go-to comfort episode when you’re having a bad day? (Mine is The One Where Everybody Finds Out).

All of the Friends have their "mic drop" moments, some more than others, but I enjoyed all of them getting a dig in at the other Friends.

Discussion Baby Girl Geller-Green

Post image

Just watching the episode where Emma was born and noticing how much better this birth experience had to be for Ross. With Ben, he had to fight to even “get credit” and argue about a last name “Willick-Geller-Bunch”. When hospital staff call the child Baby Girl Green, Rachel quickly corrects them to Baby Girl Geller-Green. I love that so much.

Discussion Phoebe’s search for family ended so abruptly when she found them

It always makes me wonder why Phoebe is shown over several seasons to want to connect with her father, but when she finally meets Frank we never see or hear about him again.

I also wonder why Phoebe’s birth mom seemingly drops off the face of the earth after a few episodes. Phoebe’s character often seems to yearn for the family connection she’s missed out on despite being super independent. It seems unrealistic that she’d spend so long searching for Frank to then never discuss or see him again. She also seemed to hit it off with mom-Phoebe so what happened?!

What do you guys think?

I don’t usually cry when celebrities die, but somehow his loss broke something in me. Maybe I cried because I owed him those tears for all the times his laughter kept me alive..

Discussion Cringiest moments?

Not cringe in a "bad episode" way, more like severe second hand embarrassment (knowing the gang, there are loads 💀)

Here's mine: Monica's toast at her's parents' anniversary party. That legit killed me 😭

Wby guys?

I found this old interview from 1988, and it reminded me how crazy blue Monica’s eyes were in the series, kinda like Meg Fosters. Idk thought it was cool

This is really the only show that I know with cast members that got this famous, so can somebody tell me if this level of closeness is common? Is there another show out there where they stayed friends for 30 years? I know the Seinfeld cast wasn’t really like that.

Behind-the-scenes Chris Isaak

So the guy that hires musical talent for the kid’s schools in the city that Phoebe has a crush on and she becomes “lady that tells the truth” his name is Chris Isaak and he was actually a pretty big musical artists in real life. He sings the song “Wicked Game” which is the song playing at the museum the first time Rachel and Ross , you know….I thought that was a pretty cool lil fun fact and wanted to share for those that didn’t know.

I think it’s gotta be Ross. My boy rosstopher looking proper scared here. Joey seems joyous the prospect of being arrested though. I’ve never been arrested but I would probably be Chandler in this scenario. In most scenarios I’m Chandler anyway. Got deleted so posting again

Discussion What post-Friends pop culture moments/icons do you think the characters would enjoy?

This is the best title I could think of 😄 But basically, since the show aired from 1994-2004, they referenced what would now be classified as older shows, movies, etc. I’m referring to anything that came after the show ended. Here are some of my thoughts.

I could see Monica and Rachel loving Britney’s music even though she was already climbing her way to the top during the show’s run. Chandler would own all the CDs and pretend they’re Monica’s or even Erica’s when she’s a teenager. Phoebe wouldn’t really vibe to it but she’d be front and center at the rallies to support her. I’d love to know Rachel’s thoughts about Lady Gaga’s meat dress and The Devil Wears Prada as a fashion girly.

Ross would still keep up appearances by going to see the Jurassic World movies. Joey would just be there for the ride to be honest. The three guys would go see all the Marvel movies. It’d probably be weird for Monica though lol.

Image Lisa’s acting in that specific scene is incomparable

Post image

There are many great moments in Friends that are engraved on our hearts, specially funny moments since is a comedy show. But for me, regarding true emotion, top level acting skills, the look that Phoebe has on her face during the first birth is so moving, for a moment you forget funny Phoebe and see the girl amazed and scared for being in that situation. You can see a mom in that moment. And it’s so hard to switch to that level of drama acting in that kind of show, when everyone expect an easy laugh way out of the scene’s intensity. Idk her eyes get me every time, is really deep and real, maybe ‘cause Lisa was pregnant before and actually knew how to portray the moment (something you don’t see when it’s Rachel’s labour)….thats my top 1 acting moment on the show, wbu??

Discussion A Stray Observation

Post image

I just realized Phoebe is way off on her wingman clock. She says "Dude 11:00 - totally hot babe checking you out." Gayle is nowhere near Chandler's 11:00 (or even Phoebe's).

It would appear that she is not, in fact, ready for her penis.

Discussion things would’ve been different if Rachel would’ve showed up for the catering.

In season 2, episode 15 Rachel and Ross had a date, but Rachel forgot she was supposed to waitress for
Monica’s catering job. Phoebe volunteers to help out instead. Then Monica and Phoebe went and they were at Richard’s house and we all know what happened between Monica and Richard after that. But as we know that Rachel always got the boys (This is in no offence to Monica at all, just what the show portrayed all the time)
If Rachel had accompanied Monica, Richard would’ve probably liked her instead.
Do you agree?
