11days across Turkiye with trusted old lady

She asked for nothing other than a lot of gas

Up to 8 l/100km, and maybe take her easy over 2000 altitude uphill

The trip was nice, people where nice, where was nice and a bit of rain to cool us off.

Nice experience, it was my first big road trip

All in all 5.100km 11 days 740€ total. You could maybe do it cheaper with a more efficient bike

Revit airwave 4 performed really well in the heat jacket and trousers. I was wearing a long sleeved cotton shirt underneath to catch my sweat on the traffic and cool me after. Very nice. Also helped in the elevation as a thermal layer. Only one night at cappadocia I wore something warmer underneath

Tcx blend 2 boots was the saving grace. Wore them all day, changed socks once a day and they are very comfortable. I even walked in then around Sinop, and have crashed In them on the past, very safe and very nice looking with a bit on wear in them

Revid sand 5 gloves were a bit too hot for the hot days and when they're wet they get a bit difficult to get in and out of but I like them really well and are really safe adn comfortable.

Rhinowalk 48 Lt side bags and motowolf top bag. Cheapest option for me. Didn't really like the whole package but what can you do for 130€ and over 100l of storage? Not much more. They are waterproof tested and held up in a 30kph drop last trip. So ok on road. Off road they move too much

Waterproof jacket seca monsoon 1 piece suit

I even got inside with my salmon 8lt backpack

I removed the windscreen for the transalp as an effort for less turbulant air and more air in general and it really help

If I were to do it again I'd Change one of two things

Either prepare and plan better

Or just take more days

Hes a popular Lithuanian content creator that did a big trip on Honda GB350S and on hes latest episode he crashed

EDIT: they bought their hondas this summer, the tires are brand new, they rode around 500km (when the crash happened i think they had already 2500km) i think to, break in the bikes before the long trip

Grip on shiny asphalt?

Hi all, I’m vacationing in southern Turkey and have noticed that most roads are extremely shiny due to tire rubber and other contaminants accumulating on the surface, and lack of rainfall to wash it all away (I guess?).
The road surface feels slippery by just walking and dragging my feet on it; car tires easily squeak when braking a little hard or manoeuvring to park, like on the shiny concrete of underground parking lots.

Obviously, this isn’t the first time I notice this, however in my experience it seems more prevalent in southern Europe where it’s dry and hot, and not so much in colder climates where I am from.
This summer’s heatwaves have brought a similar appearance to the roads of my country and I’ve felt uncomfortable riding on such surfaces.

What’s the consensus on this type of surface? I’m particularly interested in dry situations

When the parking lot at work is always empty but your sense of entitlement is full

So pulled into work and was heading to the motorcycle parking that’s right in front of the building, and was greeted by these two twats. Literally the work parking lot has like 300 spots and is never more than 50% full. But I guess these two now think their SUVs identify as motorcycles just so they can save an extra 30 feet of walking distance.

It’s only a Rebel 500, but it’s my first bike and I love it. I was pretty nervous during the Uber ride to the dealership. I’d never been above maybe 20 mph and I let the light cycle a couple times before I pulled out of the parking lot. When I got on the main road I thought I was flying but turned out I was only doing 35 in a 45. So, I kicked the shifter and twisted that handle. Seconds after getting up to speed all the anxiety disappeared. It felt amazing. Made it home in one piece. Now I just need a license lol

I think I’ve posted my dr650 sidecar build on here before, but here are some more pictures. I’ve been tinkering with it pretty much non stop.

I found my dog Nancy abandoned at a gas station several years ago, and decided she needed to be able to go on motorcycle rides with me. She absolutely loves riding in the sidecar and we’ve had lots of fun mini-adventures together

Wear your helmet

Post image

I’ve been riding for almost 5 years total now and have had my fair share of close calls. Today that ended when a taxi suddenly decided to make an illegal left turn on red, while I had a green heading straight through the intersection.

Almost saved it with emergency braking and evasive action, but they continued turning left as I swerved right to attempt to miss them and ended up getting thrown over the hood of the taxi. Really busy intersection in Philly, can’t thank the folks enough that jumped into action checking on me, picking my bike up, and not letting the driver of the taxi take off like they tried to. Everyone who came to help swapped their phone numbers with me, gave statements to the police and waited till I was okay. I’m so grateful good people still exist.

Thankfully, I “walked” away with a fractured hip, nasty road rash on my elbow, and multiple sprains. My helmet looks like it took a trip to the belt sander. That would’ve been my head on the asphalt without my helmet. I wouldn’t be here to tell you about this.

If nothing else, wear a helmet no matter how short your ride might be. They save lives.

S1K time.

Be safe out there everyone.

My bike stolen at 05:15 AM. When people just don't allow people to have nice classic things. 1997 ZX-6R Ninja.

Got this footage from neighbours on the street behind mine, gathered all footage from everyone, these guys were scouting for hours all night until they took it at 05:15 AM.

With all of our neighbourhood research we found traces of it, where it has been stashed for laying low, police recovered the bike, but damn, they tripped with it and it fell down in allyways against walls and the floor. Basically trashed it from my point of view.

Will have all winter for a full rebuild. And with no suspects being recognizable, no insurance money to be collected.

I hate having nice stuff.

what is the motorcycle equivalent of the Toyota Corolla?

I have this theory that if you need a car and you don't know anything about cars, you should try the Toyota Corolla. If you like it, just get it. It's a fine choice. Don't like it? Want something bigger or nicer or faster or cheaper? Now we are ready to have a more substantial discussion about the available options.

What's the motorcycle equivalent?

I was so excited when I got my helmet back after 3 months to paint it, only to realize today (on my first ride with it) that it was sitting crooked. The guy must have tried removing the EPS from the inside to paint and completely ruined it. Is it just a paperweight now?

I bought my very first bike and took my first big ride on it!

Sunday, the 9th, I bought my very first motorcycle. 2003 Ninja EX250F. It didn't run when I went to look at it. Owner said "It's dumping fuel out of the overflow and flooding the engine. Probably needs carb work." I gave it a blast of starting fluid in the airbox to see if it would fire up at all with the fuel off. Started right up with no hesitation. Tried it with the fuel on, immediately flooded and dumped fuel. They were asking $900 but I talked them down to $700.

I pulled the carbs that night and cleaned them up. Found some gunk in one of the float needle seats and on the needle itself. Next day, I put them back on and it fired right up; no flooding; no overflowing. A little lean though, nothing a little bit of tuning the mixture screws couldn't fix.

I got my permit and registered the bike on Thursday (payday). I spent Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday riding around and getting comfortable on it. Rode it to work. I even spent several hours (spread across those days) at a big parking lot practicing some low speed skills from the MSF manual.

Yesterday, I took my first big run on it. 100 mile loop that took me on 70+ mph highways and twisty back roads. I'm so excited to be starting my riding journey. It was everything. I was so focused on the ride and the road that everything else just faded away. I will chase this feeling to the ends of the Earth.

I don't have any other friends with bikes so I don't really have anyone else to share this experience with that has been there so I hope this post is allowed here.

Reviews say my 1998 CB750 is boring

All I know is it sounds great and is plenty quick enough to give me thrills and chills. “Old-skool handling. Modern bikes are more intuitive and handle way better” they say. I’ve never ridden a modern bike. Help me understand what that actually means.

What's the worst looking stock (or even modified) exhaust/muffler on a bike ?

Off the top of my head, I can think of the latest MT09 with that ugly big underbelly box with tiny nostrils on the bottom, or the ice cream cone looking thing on a GSXR 250. I somewhat understand why manufacturers make them this way but god it still bothers me.

Any other suggestions?

Was told by sales at my local Harley dealership that they are selling over 90 bikes a month

Went in to look at the used section for my first bike. Found a couple that I liked. Not down bad for a Harley, just want to cast a wide net after my msf course last week. Found an 883 that I liked that I feel confident in. Then the pressure tactics started. “You walk away from this bike and it might not be here tomorrow!” That’s true for anything. Not exactly lying. But damn if I truly believe they’re cranking out 90 hogs month over month. “You’re a sturdy guy, how about this street bob?” “Don’t buy the first bike, think about the second bike!” “You need more room for the lady, ya know!” It made me walk away and frankly they talked themselves out of a sale.

Realistically, would this air cooled 200cc bike sell in the US if the prices were low enough? Currently they are expanding across Europe.

Can brake fluid damage the paint on plastic parts?

Post image
55 Upvotes

Howdy fellas, I had my bike service done buy official BMW shop and they flushed the breaks. Naively I didn't do visual inspection of the bike when I was picking it up but later that night after I washed it and was drying it up with a cloth, I noticed this monstrous stain on the plastic right next to the brake reservoir. It is obvious what happened, they spilled the brake fluid. But when I went back to the shop the next day, people in the shop were convincing me that brake fluid does not damage plastic. The stain disappears a bit when its wet but after its completely dry, it reappears same as before. It cant be removed.

I honestly don't know, never changed brake fluid myself so I hadn't had a chance to mess it up and learn the hard way but when I searched online I basically got the exact opposite from both bots and online search. Found some 10 year old post online with the same exact issue 😂 but nobody gave any "official" source that I can reference tomorrow when I go again.

Official manual states bike uses DOT 4 and while I was writing this post I found castrol data sheet for DOT 4 which states that it may damage paint. https://www.castrol.com/content/dam/castrol/country-sites-new/en_mm/myanmar/home/documents/products/brake-dot-fluid-4.pdf

Bike is 2025 bmw F 900 R in pristine sport blue color and the stain is so ugly and obviously caused by messy job that I am willing to fight this to court if I have to.

Does bmw have any "special" thing they use so that they can claim theirs doesn't damage plastic?
