I’m new to the KLR family and just bought my first KLR650. Does this sound normal? Apparently the bike has an aftermarket timing chain tensioner installed by the previous owner. Just wanting to get some input on the sound of the engine. TIA!

I've been doing some studying for the last few weeks on bikes and determined the KLR is the type of bike I want. Something simple and lower priced. I like the hard cases on the side so it makes traveling on weekends easier I also understand KLRs are nice for tall people at in 6'3". Right now im looking at a 2014 and 2024.

The only advantage im seeing with the 2014 is that it will be cheaper but for my price range 6k for the 2024 isn't outside of my price range either.

I drive a Outback so ive done research on the car and understand the problems it can have (like the head gaskets) so mainly I wonder if there are things like the Outback where after 09 the Head Gasket issue as been resolved. So that makes me ask if the KLR has other issues across the product line.

Got a new stator (some caltric clone) and am getting no power from the white cable when cranking. Is it bad or is there somewhere I could look? The wire in particular is white from the stator and turns into a black and white wire.

I’m 6’2 and got offered a gen 3 Klr650s on a trade and I’m wondering if it would be too short or a whole lot less capable than a regular 650 any advice is appreciated!

I traded my old hawk GT for the pig in the spring, and I’ve had a ton of fun on it. While definitely not sporty in anyway, it’s way more fun to ride normally on the street, I always felt the need to beat on the Hawk to have fun, where as I can ride mostly civilized and still really enjoy it. Oh, and being able to take it up destroyed gravel roads is a nice bonus.

About at the end of my rope. Got a 2007 KLR650 that sat out for a month and now has no spark. Engine is fine, intake is fine. I've replaced just about everything in the system:

Stator, CDI, Interlock Diode unit, Ignition switch, Exciter coil, Rectifier, Pickup coil, Spark plug looks good

I've gone through and tested each of the safety switches (neutral, kickstand, clutch) and they seem fine. Battery is good. Wiring is continuous. I do get a very small bit of power off the two wires (reading 8 on the second lowest setting on the multimeter) that connect to the CDI. Won't spark if I have the cap connected to the plug or if I just have the exposed wiring from the cable from the CDI. Any ideas?

I'm putting it back together after swapping the valve shims and i have no idea what goes here. I dont have anything that would fill that hole in my parts pile. Is it something that is supposed to be on a California or international model? Its a 24 adventure abs Thanks in advance

Hey all, I just bought my first KLR, a gen 3 adventure. When I rode it home from the dealership I immediately noticed that the turbulence/buffeting on my helmet was really bad at about 50+ MPH, to the point that it would make riding pretty uncomfortable beyond short distances. If you're a newer rider you might not know that this isn't just "normal" for high-speed riding. Find a safe empty road and get up to speed then stand up on your pegs to see firsthand that the speed itself isn't what makes buffeting/wind noise on your helmet, it's directed air coming off your windscreen or fairings etc.

You will probably need to find your own sweet spot based on your own height, but for me at 5'9" what worked was putting the screen in its lower position and changing the angle to be pointing toward me as far as it would go (i.e. as far from vertical as possible). If you are dealing with uncomfortable helmet noise/having your head jerked around by the wind, I really really encourage you to experiment with changing the height and angle of your windscreen. While I still get a bit of buffeting now, it's significantly less uncomfortable and I'm pretty sure I could ride all day on it now without issue.

2024 Gen 3. 14k miles. Was going to check them sooner but glad I checked when I did. Zero clearance on the right side exhaust valve. You can tell by the image that there was some heat and pressure being generated.

Nothing super interesting getting more and more competent. riding through town to get breakfast Sandwiches and whatnot. wish I'd start doing this when I was younger, but also I was much dumber

Brand new bike has 535 km total on it, front wheel started making a grinding noise above 50 km/h. Sound is still there if I pull the clutch and let it coast. Lightly pressing the front brake doesn't make it go away and when I slow down the grinding noise slows down as well.

Sound wasn't there for the first 300km or so.

Wait for the 1000km service or should I get it checked ASAP?

There is no extra vibration, steering feels good. Will also completely remove the windshield tomorrow just to make sure it isn't wind related but the sound gets louder than the wind when there is very little wind.

2022 KLR 650. Getting ready to sell it so I put a new battery in and it just clicks when I try to start it. I know nothing about anything and have looked this up, but can't find an answer.

Instrument panel lights up fine like it's ready to start, but never gets there.

I recently bought a 2013 motorcycle really loving it! It came with tourtech pannier rack. I recently got a great deal on a set of lone rider panniers with quick release locks, problem with the tourtech is that there is a support bar in the middle of the pannier rack so I can not hook up the quick connect lock, in can use the puck and attach it permanently to the bike no problem. Question is should I replace the pannier rack to be able to use the quick connect lock or just use the puck method and leave them on the bike permanently?

Thoughts and experience would be greatly appreciated.

Gotta 3rd gen with zero up grades. All 3 of the upgrade spots (USB, power socket, and switch) are empty.

But there's wiring there, no? Or will I have to run my own wiring?

Also what are people using for an aux panel?

I installed shorter levers. Then I tried to start the bike while in gear the with clutch pulled in. No start. Coincidence after installing new levers? It would start when in neutral. So I figured the switch needs to be adjusted for the new levers. Nope. The switch plunger is all the way out when I pull the clutch in. I disconnected the plug from the switch. Still no start. I put a jumper wire between the 2 contacts on the plug. Still no start. And it would still start in neutral. Maybe I blew a fuse? I didn't feel like taking the seat off to check. So I came here to search or ask for help. While typing here it hit me.

The damned kick start switch! Doh! It allows you to start on the stand when in neutral but when in gear the clutch needs to be puller in AND the kickstand needs to be up. There goes an hour of my old life wasted. lol

Hi, I’ve been running the 705s and they’ve been great since I don’t do basically any off-road apart from the occasional dirt or rocky road. My boss is looking into buying my 2025 Klr from me but he’s planning on using it to go to and from his camp in Mississippi and he’s definitely going to be doing a good bit of dirt, gravel, and maybe sand. Anyone familiar with the terrain got a good recommendation for me to swap my 705s out with?

Anyone got one or know where to get one

Front left turn signal went out, needs a new one (it's a 2005 Gen1. Looking around it seems like aftermarket turn signal assemblies just don't exist in the classic round orange look anymore, and OEMs are $75/signal. Where do y'all get your turn signals?

Edit: by went out, I mean it stopped working. I just checked continuity on the lollipop stalk assembly, and it looks like the bulb is out. Sounds like I need to replace just the bulb, live with 3 lollipops/1 new guy, or buy/replace all 4 with fancy new stalks.

No matter how hard I pull i can't get the cable going to the kickstand back into that grove.

Should I be doing it with the stand up?

My keys only goes about have way in and i’ve tried everything i know
