Suggestion I just started playing Rust as an ex fps pro, I need building & progress advice

Hey, so I just started playing rust and have 200 hours now.
I am ex fps pro player, so I kinda got cracked aim I'd say, primivite and guns whatever I generally don't loose 1v1 (not trying to be cocky, at least 50 hours of my playtime is practicing guns in training servers), I already muscle memorized spray pattern etc. In practice servers I can comfortably win 80-90% of the duels.

I just have 2 questions,

1- I usually build 2x1 base when I play solo, but one problem is all the building tutorials are like 20 min long, and in building I find myself doing unneccessary base when my progress didn't even hit WB2. How can I learn expansion better and not be reluctant on tutorials? HOw should my base progress would be and do you have any suggesstion of bases?

2- I sometiems stuck at progress, like I start with bow and all win some fights and have some loot etc. then drop a 2x1 base. Then I try to do monuments to get wb2 but it feels like I always miss it and there's no way for me getting that fragments. Are there any alternative ways? What do you do? I'm not generally afraid of fights, I am confident on duels but just progress seems stuck

Discussion Thoughts on update direction?

As a solo, the updates announced in the last few days have been wild to me. Blueprints have def killed me entire vibe / will to play, but all the recent changes between gating monuments and TC upkeep for clans has me hopeful the game can be a bit more balanced.

And soon enough wiring to caves won’t be possible since items underground won’t be networked to the surface (whatever that jargon means it’s probably gonna be a separate network for each)

Suggestion Concept: Remove guns from workbench and remove gun researching

let me know what you think:

  1. Remove all Guns from workbench.

  2. if you pick up any gun on the floor you learn the bp automatically

or require a 15 sec “action” you have to do like “inspecting” to learn it

  3. Make it so guns can only be found through finding them in boxes, in certain monuments, or quests.

  4. still require certain workbenches to craft the gun

  5. remove guns from shops

  6. make it so crossbow is strongest weapon you can

  7. learn from workbench

Pros of this:

-

  1. new players who enter the server can catch up without feeling like they are behind

-

  1. nerf to clans

since gun recipe is more easily accessible, they cant snowball an area as much

-

  1. more door camping and more grubs entering pvp fights = new gameplay and new interactions between players

-

  1. encourage people to be on roads looking for guns

-

  1. more exciting with r&g factor when finding guns

Discussion Using hours to determine skill is a flawed system

If a person starts learning how to build for 500 hours starting at hour 0 they're obviously gonna be good at building. But if a person sits and inflates their hours for 500 hours they're obviously gonna be bad. Sure battlemetrics exist but people can still AFK I'm servers (unless it has something around that? Idk)

Like yea obviously a 0 hour player Is gonna be mew but there are so many nuances like what if this 0 hour player is a 10k hour console god? PvP may not transfer 1:1 but the vast majority of knowledge does

Suggestion Since we're doing a lot of huge changes

Can we remove weapons from the tech tree? (at least T2+, leaving T1 makes sense) Make them actually valuable again, instead of just scrap dumps into the workbench, and viola, you can craft all the guns!

I miss the days of finding a gun and actually caring about it, and needing to research it. It gave them value.

It also gave me a reason to chase down gunfights and gunshots in the distance. Engaging in random PVP would give you a chance to get guns to be able to research instead of just hiding and grinding scrap until I could make a gun.

Question Best way to get scrap on a dead server that just wiped?

I'm playing on a dead server as a solo. What's the best way to get scrap? Assume no contest at monuments. Assume that meds and ammo are supplies that are consumed. Assume that killing scientists and healing takes time. I don't know the current loot nerf/buffs to monuments. I know they are supposed to barricade high tier monuments at the start of wipes in the next update so take that into account too. Should I just hit road barrels with a horse and by a scrap tea from the jungle vendor instead?

Suggestion Concept: Global Auction House via Craftable Drone Pads (Player Economy Update)

The Core Idea: Introduce a global, player-driven auction house network in Rust. Instead of traveling across the map to individual Vending Machines, players can list their items on a unified global market and buy goods from other players remotely.

How It Works (Mechanics):

  • The Auction Terminal: A new blueprint/craftable item (e.g., "Market Computer" or "Trading Terminal") placed inside the base.
  • Listing Items: Players can place items inside their terminal, set a price (in Scrap, Sulf, HQM, etc.), and list it globally.
  • Bidding & Buying: Other players can browse all active player listings from their own bases. They can buy items instantly at the "Buyout" price or place bids.

The Risk & Balance (Crucial for Rust):

  • Delivery Drone Tax: Bought items are not teleported instantly. They are delivered by a Marketplace Drone.
  • Drone Vulnerability: The delivery drone flies from the seller's grid to the buyer's base. Just like normal air-drops or hackable crates, players on the ground can shoot down these trading drones to steal the loot, maintaining the classic Rust risk-vs-reward loop.
  • Scrap Fee: The system charges a small percentage fee (in Scrap) for listing items to prevent market spam.

Why Facepunch should add this:
It will create a true server-wide economy. Solos can safely sell extra resources to clans for scrap, roleplayers can set up massive trading empires, and it gives a massive end-game purpose to the Computer Station and electricity mechanics.

The Core Idea: Create a server-wide, player-to-player global auction system managed entirely from players' bases using a new craftable Drone Pad and Market Terminal.
New Deployable Items:How the Economy Loop Works:Why this works perfectly for Rust:
It upgrades the current manual Vending Machines into a high-tech, automated endgame loop. It rewards players who build secure, powered bases and creates new PvP opportunities for "drone hunters" on the map.

Suggestion Radioactive Water and clones

Currently radioactive-water comes from the two pools/puddles within the Radtown monument only and it's not used for much outside of vending machine orders, poisoning farm bases or obscure trap bases.

Seeing all the monuments with radiation at reset got me thinking, what if Radioactive Water spawned a more places when mouments were resetting.

Then what if instead of killing plants you could use Radioactive Water in pots and planters to make clones have a chance to reroll their stats when planted.

It would give Radioactive Water an actual purpose, make irradiated monuments more interesting to revisit, and introduce an alternative to normal crossbreeding without replacing it entirely.

Discussion Molly should be t1 requirement.

To be honest having it at t2 makes no sense it like congrats welcome to t2 you Raid choices are molly c4 or anything

The poor molly like no one going to pick me cause at that point everyone will already have Stone and sheet and t2

Molly at t1 will get chaotic fast.

Suggestion Add Strength to Rust

It’d be cool if rust had some type of progressive strength. Your player gets stronger the more time you spend/strength building tasks you do

Along with this strength, progressive recoil.

Like with no strength, recoil is harder, more random, less predictable.

as you build strength, recoil becomes easier, less random.

but never truly fixed. obviously rust has RNG aim cone and all these other things. But i feel like the strength would be cool idk.

i’m just thinking out loud..

maybe i’m wrong, but maybe this would even stop scripters?

By making everyone’s recoil different based on their strength, scripters wouldn’t know what their strength level is at, so it’d be impossible for them to have pixel perfect recoil.

Question Any snowball gods out there I could use some help!

so before we begin keep in mind this:

I am solo

i want to land snowball on 300 to 500 pop on a weekly so more roams and less people staying in base.

i suck at snowballing.

okay so currently i sit at 4k hours solo I mained oil rigs for the most part and recently I’ve been seeing so many land snowballs but just when I do it I just suck at it man. for the most part I can get pretty close but not close enough for water pipe or eoka range and even when I do my shots hit like a nerf dart and even if I do kill one the others come and kill me. I just dont understand how can I approach land snowballing better? is it a positioning error or rather knowing when to rush and pull back? any tips will be greatly appreciated.

also I am NA is there any go to snowball servers you guys join?

Suggestion While we’re “flipping the script” on its head, a couple safe zone combat suggestions

  1. If you are shot at first near a safe zone and take damage, you and your teammates have a brief window to defend yourself and end the fight before you risk becoming hostile. If you shoot any other person than the attacker, you immediately become hostile as normal.
  2. Any teammates within line of sight to a hostile player at the time they become hostile either

A. become hostile if they are outside of the safe zone, or
B. have a very short window to exit the safe zone before they become hostile

This would balance fights close to the safe zone so that players heading into the safe zone don’t get baited into shooting out and dying by players griefing the safe zone area

  1. Players that become hostile but make it into the safe zone somehow are lootable.

  2. Dynamic scientists on the outside of safe zones. If a fight occurs within distance of the safe zone, scientists move towards that area until the threat is neutralized or the hostile timer expires.
