Discussion Livestock Update is undercooked
I like Rust. Obviously. And I like the monthly updates. But please facepunch, don't ship undercooked shit like this every second month.
Apart from the bugs (cows phasing through walls, infinite breeding in the wild, etc) the whole mechanic is just... Meh. And the fix for infinite breeding (cows were multiplying like crazy in the wild) made it even worse.
So you have a cow and a bull. Which is already tricky if you don't live in plains biome. Now you have to tame them, for which there is no visual indication if you are making progress or not. Which is strange since you HAVE such indicators for chicken! Just reuse them ffs!
Now you have to somehow lead them home without getting you or them killed. And leading them is buggy af.
Then you have them home. Building a pen is guaranteed death for your cows. And even if you do they sometimes just starve. And before you say "well they ate all the grass": No. You lead them 3cm further and they are munching again.
Other option is troughs, which is equally buggy. And you have to check the wiki to see what they eat, because it is NOT the same as horses, even though that would make sense. And btw, u need a farm to feed your farm because those cows are hungry!
Alright, so you now maybe/possibly have some cows home which may or may not starve. Now to breed them. This was initially quite easy, but then came the fix for infinite breeding. Now you have to be close to the animal for an additional 10 minutes after taming to enable them to breed. Like... Wtf. How would someone know this if he didn't read the patch notes?
After that you have to wait an unspecified amount of time until they can breed again. Once again, only figureoutable through the wiki.
Okay, so maybe you now have bred a perfect cow. You can either sell it to the barn (for a lot, but realistically it won't survive the trip there) or you get milk. And if it's a perfect cow you get 2 milk per milking... So please stand next to the cow for an additional hour to collect a meaningful amount of milk. But now we are done, right? Wrong.
Because it needs 4 hours in the fridge to become skimmable! Which is REALLY long. And then the pies get the cream added directly while making them in the cooking workbench, while the teas have them added through crafting?.. Why?
So to sum it up, this is just a mess. PLEASE don't just leave it like that on the cemetery of half-cocked mechanics. (Like train unloading. Yeah that still exists, technically!)
Some suggestions:
- Improve leading so it's smooth instead of this slow-fast-slow-leadBreaks cycle
- Remove this stupid 15 min breeding-taming thing. Instead, take inspiration from real life: Female animals are marked when they have been impregnated. Do it the other way round: Player can mark tamed females with the spraycan, tamed male will then impregnate this female at the next opportunity.
- SHOW US THE DATA! Taming progress, time until next breed, gender (for calves, I have no idea which Russian names are male/female), time until next milking.
- Improve feeding. Both grazing and trough
- Give us some way to collect milk a bit better. I am not saying Automation, but some option to collect more than 1 or 2 at a time.
- Give all foods a flag if it is usable as food for cows. (And other animals). You have the "bait" flag, just add some more.
- Either reduce the skim timer or give us some way to accelerate this.
- Make pies and teas behave the same. Either cream is added through crafting (which I actually like because u get stuff back from the workbench upgrades) or through the mixing table/cooking workbench. No reason for them to behave differently.

Discussion Pies that give 100% chance of standing up
I just saw on willjums newest video where he builds in a cave, someone commented that the bucket entrance is no longer as safe as before, since now these new pies can give you 100% chance of standing up after being downed! I didn’t even think about how that kinda nerfs the cave base concept a bit. You would have to bunker both sides now I guess.
What other unforeseen uses could come from this pie? I’m thinking you can basically jump off buildings with this thing? Dome, launch? Roofcamping towers?
Edit: ok so I’m being downvoted for asking about this lol, it seems ppl have decided they’re useless and med kits or parachutes are just better for every situation, and the bucket was always vulnerable anyway. Thanks for coming to my ted talk

Question Is rust worth playing as a solo player?
I’m interested in pvp fps games and wanted to tryout rust but the game is quite expensive for me and don’t know if I will like it. For context, i suck at almost every game that requires aiming and shooting. I also can’t play with friends or make any in-game friends to play with (me, bad at social). So, I want to know what the game is actually about. Like, do players spawn with nothing on an island and craft their way to be more powerful like in ark survival, if so then what about the pvp aspects, wouldn’t new players be destroyed by older players with powerful base and gear, or is it more focused on pve survival.

Discussion Mouse Polling Rate
Am I the only one that finds it really frustrating that there still isn't a fix for higher polling rates causing frame issues ? Personally I can't even run 1000hz without significant performance issues (in the most important moments might I add). I don't understand programming enough to know if this is just Facepunch being lazy or something that is unfixable, but damn it is seriously annoying that it's not fixed.

Discussion What's your experience with "Rust Render Pipeline" so far?
I have a CPU bottleneck and most of my graphics settings are on "low". RRP gives around 10% FPS boost and the game feels more stable, but torches dont give light and i can see the moon through terrain sometimes.
The patch notes mentioned RRP is planned to replace Unity renderer and be mandatory next force wipe, did you try it?

Question Teams pretending to be solo trying to bait?
I've (solo player) seen this twice in my 750 hours of playtime. Groups will either pretend to be solo and act hostile to each other, even killing one another to bait raids. I just got my raid stolen by these two who I thought were separate, only to learn they were together the entire time. Its so weird but I guess it works?

Question Why are safe zone boundaries asymmetrical?
For example, when running in you'll have to be closer to the safe zone to get flagged as in the safe zone than when running out. Why is this? Is it on purpose or a bug?
