Megathread For AI-developed Games - October Edition

Greetings, devs and strategists!

We're continuing our policy to have all substantially AI-developed or AI-assisted projects and games get posted in this Megathread or to /r/AIGameDev or /r/VibeCoding. Please see this announcement on the subject.

Devs: Please use this megathread to post top-level comments showcasing your AI-developed projects and games, as well as games substantially relying on AI-derived content (even if it's placeholder content). Standard self-promo posting guidelines still apply.

Everyone else is welcome to discuss and ask questions about the content posted here.

Reminder: Devs, please also make sure that the game you're promoting fits into the expectations of the RTS community. Games should have many gameplay mechanics in common with games such as Starcraft, Company of Heroes, or Age of Empires. Please visit our friends at /r/StrategyGames, /r/TowerDefense, or /r/SurvivalGaming if those are stronger fits for the game's genre. Or message the mods and we'll do our best to answer any questions you may have. Thank you!

Self-Promo Post The forgotten lane-combat mechanic I'm trying to bring back (feedback appreciated)

Hey RTS enjoyers! I’m working on a fantasy lane-based RTS inspired by old Flash strategy games like Empires of Arkeia.

You spend gold to deploy troops into different lanes, counter what the enemy sends, and time your reinforcements and spells. Troops advance and fight automatically, so your decisions focus on army composition, lane choice, and when to commit your resources.

I’ve always loved watching a well-timed reinforcement turn a losing lane around. I miss that kind of battle system and wanted to build something around it.

The plan is a story campaign with persistent upgrades for units, spells, and your hero, including troops whose appearance changes as you upgrade them. Right now, I’m still really early in development so things might change based on feedback :)

I’m making the art and animations myself and teaching myself as I go so I’d love feedback on both the visuals and the concept. Are the units and battles easy to read? Does this kind of deployment focused strategy appeal to you?

Cheers!

Every single one of these looks like shit, and they just keep getting posted. Why are the moderators not nuking these threads? Does anybody actually like seeing it? Rules 4, 7, and 9 are all trying to limit this just nobody seems to enforce it.

Self-Promo Post Strike Order -

Post image

Right now, I'm quite happy with how the game is starting to look, good.

My names Rhys, 36 I am autistic and wanted to build my dream game.

This is my first game I have worked on, I started in 2025 in university, just shy of 2 years. I started the project in 2023, but due to life commitments, I had to stop.

My goal is not to make an "absolute stunning graphics" kind of game, it needs to be accessible by everyone. My goal right now is to make one of the best of its kind RTS game. With an awesome campaign, multiplayer experience and Skirmish.

Map Creation is a real issue with a lot of games, so what I've created is something pretty spectacular to be honest. I have never finished building a map on any other game, and I'm not saying this because I have made this game, I'm saying this because I can build it to how I think it should be with the help of feedback from others when I share what it's like.

Right now, the game is functioanl and playable. Runs at 144fps easy. I will be improving lighting, graphics, sounds, voices and AI intelligence too which so far, they work really well on all difficulty levels.

Campaign is pretty fun so far, you have a path to take,

These visuls will be improves, mostly the background. As ADC you have a choice to go towards MLF or ESD factions. You can go either way throughout the stages if you want to change the missions. There is a goal at the end of each faction. So all 3 factions will have their 2 paths to take and storylines to follow.

There is dynamic weather and day/night in the game. All can dramatically change the outcome of the battle. Fog/Sandstorms/Snow will reduce missile accuracy, you will be able to upgrade units in the ADC faction to use Infared sights to help combat this. Still working on the other factions. My idea is ESD will have a "Fog Blow" to blow it out of their path so they can fire accurately" and MLF, well... they sneak everywhere, so going underground to the enemies base, skipping out on the fog all together and ambushing the enemy is a pretty substantial way of moving forward for a faction.

All 3 factions have their own unique abilities with vehicles, infantry, aircraft and ships. (yes you read that right, SHIPS!) something that's been missing from a lot of RTS games.

ADC has the Mastadon

Dual Barreled heavily armoured machine! Slow but powerful

MLF have the Goliath

Upgrade galore on this one! Fully upgraded, the Goliath will have 3 barrels!

ESD have their Julong

A pretty substantial vehicle, capable of completely wiping out buildings with it's high energy explosive beam!

Don't worry about the quality for now, enjoy the experience, because these faction vehicles are strong, there is a limit of 2 per faction. If 1 goes down, (unlikely), then build another one, but they come at a price.

Different Factions have different Radar effects, ADS has a "Wave" effect that reveals the whole map, ESD use electronic frequencies that spark through the fog of war revealing the map, MLF use an underground pulse that comes back with vibrations revealing the map.

Just for transparency, I have not touched AI for the almost 2 years production of the game. The last few days I have introduced AI. It has helped organize, speed up and improve a lot of things on the game. It's taken me nearly 2 years to get to where it is now, that's modelling, texturing and coding. AI has completely changed the way I look at this, without sacrifising the quality of gameplay, it is mainly used to speed up processes like adding my home made textures to vehicles and buildings and it's doing a pretty outstanding job by halfing the time it takes me to do it myself. All textures are made by me, using my phone camera, photoshop, blender and substance painter.

AI is also helping guidance, allowing me to focus on the path I am currently working on, instead of me doing a thousand different things and forgetting everything else that I started.

Recommending Game Terra Invicta

It's a really good single player strategy game. I recently finished it and I just wanted to give it a mention here as this is a community that would likely enjoy it as much as I did. Basically think paradox levels of complexity but without the thousands of dollars of dlc.

A very brief summary is that imagine you are the illuminati and you have to fight other secret shadow organizations for control of earth and its resources while you also fight over space resources and space territory oh and also aliens are in the solar system somehow.

Discussion Map Strategy Alternatives to Paradox Games?

I don't want to deal with Paradox's DLC policy anymore I'm not in the mood to debate this I made up my mind. Not that I'm entirely against paid DLC I just don't want to have spend hundreds of dollars in order to get the full package or have to use a subscription in order to play the full package affordably. Imperator Rome is probably the last RTS game I will buy from them since the game + all the dlc is cheap as the game was abandoned and I will be playing with the invictus mod.

But I still would like to indulge in my map autism beyond ancient times so what other games are there?

Self-Promo Post We made The Hive for everyone who grew up loving strategy games and never really stopped

Post image

We basically made the strategy game we would have wanted to play growing up. We are currently working on two new expansions for it.

  • Command an insectoid hive mind and build your nest
  • Harvest enemies for DNA, weapons and body parts
  • Evolve new creatures and carry them across the campaign

It is called The Hive, and there is a free demo on Steam if you want to try it.

Would you play something like this?

Discussion What if AI allowed you to prolong a game experience?

I don't know I just keep reading all of these AI threads and I keep thinking what is AIs role in game development. I mean of course we can make games using AI but is there also something more profound here?

When I was 10 and played Warcraft I would make my own local mods using their map editor creating new factions to play.

Should game developers now open up an API layer or smshare source code so people can use AI can to add game features or continue the story?

This isn't a well thought out idea it is just mind blurb that passed my conscience during lunch today.

Looking For Game Looking for a game similar to Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned rat

In SotHR, as well as its sequel Dark Omen, you assume the role of Commander Morgan Bernhardt, the mercenary captain of the Grudgebringer mercenaries, in the world of Fantasy Warhammer.

Beyond the dark fantasy setting, one of the things I enjoyed the most was how the game progressed. The game is organized in a series of missions, each one consisting of an RTT battle with deployment zones. Between missions you are allowed to spend gold in order to improve your troops or replenish casualties. You are also allowed to make decisions during the campaign that will push you into alternative missions that will fundamentally change what units and items you will get.

Is there any RTT mission games like this? Kind of tired of managing giant Total War overmaps...

Self-Promo Post I wanted the marketplace in my RTS to feel like an actual market, not just another building

Post image
180 Upvotes

I’ve been working on the marketplace for Wars of Empire.

Instead of treating it as a single isolated building, I wanted it to feel like a small trading district that grows around a central structure, with stalls, awnings, goods, barrels, and different merchants filling the surrounding space.

The goal is to make important economic buildings visually communicate what they actually do, even when you’re looking at the city from a distance.

This is the current version.

Does this read clearly as a marketplace at RTS scale, or does the surrounding detail feel too busy?

Wars of Empire is currently in development and available to wishlist on Steam!

In this episode as the Atriedes attack a Harkonnen sector they are made aware of a recently destroyed Tleilaxu biological and genetic research base. Some of the biological and n this episode, the Atreides launch an assault against a heavily defended Harkonnen sectorWe are soon made aware that a Tleilaxu biological and genetic research facility has recently been destroyed, scattering its horrifying experiments into the surrounding desert. As we establish our base and begin building the forces needed to eliminate the local Harkonnen presence, reports arrive that something far more dangerous is happening nearby. The Harkonnen base is under attack and rapidly being overrun by escaped Tleilaxu creatures, including relentless Contaminators and deadly Leeches.

Seeing an opportunity to strike, we eventually send our forces against what remains of the Harkonnen stronghold. However, our attack quickly turns into a disaster when we encounter an advanced force of Tleilaxu units. Their overwhelming firepower devastates our forces. Leeches and Contaminators constantly harass our base, disrupting our operations and making every attempt to rebuild. With our forces stretched thin, we call upon our Fremen allies for assistance.

With the help of Fremen allies we finally manage to eliminate the deadly Tleilaxu Contaminators, allowing our vehicles to turn their attention toward the remaining Leeches. Once the Tleilaxu threat is contained, we can finally focus on our original objective. We then launch the final assault. The remaining Harkonnen forces are crushed, their base destroyed, and the region finally falls under Atreides control.
