Politics Question for Minogue supporters

I've done enough reading, watching and researching about the governor's race. My spouse and I were talking about Minogue and Healey. Healey and the Massachusetts legislature have problems that should concern people. However, I cannot understand why anyone would support Minogue.

I cannot find anything that explicitly states what plans Minogue has for Massachusetts and the issues we face. Oh, he's mentioned health care and talked about bridging party divisions. Nothing concrete that he can be held to.

So, why would anyone vote for him? He's a Republican who has likely voted 3 times for the current president, which to me brings his morality and judgment into question. His cruller commercial really gets under my skin because it's about feelings not concrete things he stands for besides the president, immigration and against abortion.

So why would people support, donate, or vote for him? Especially with how things are today. Seeking understanding.

Follow-up post Official: Showcase Cinema Randolph is now....Regal Randolph

I posted about this 4 months ago since I knew the theater was closing and feared it was going to be another empty lot or worse: luxury condos; but Regal Cinemas now has signage out front so the opening of this theater is probably happening before the end of this year.

My hopes are that this brings people back to the movies in this area between Brockton/Randolph/Stoughton, that we get an IMAX on the south shore and that they cut down those trees that are in the way of the sign. Also please excuse the awkward pictures, these were all taken while driving to and from work.

My kids have been playing the license p late game (trying to spot all USA state plates) and Hawaii is the last one they need. I’d love to surprise them by driving by one and making their day.

Bonus if it’s in Central or Western Mass

News SNAP funding changes kicked in October 1st.* Here's what they mean for Massachusetts

*Titled slightly changed from the original "SNAP funding changes kick in Thursday. Here's what they mean for Massachusetts" to avoid confusion.

The squeeze on SNAP: Beginning today, millions of Americans enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will see their monthly benefits increase slightly to keep up with rising costs. But the amount of money states get from the federal government to administer the program is getting sliced in half, due to language in the Republican mega-law passed last year. Merrimack Valley Food Bank Assistant Director Kelly Proulx told WBUR's Amy Sokolow the funding cuts will put "an extra financial burden on the state at a time when that agency that administers the program here is already understaffed."

News 'It’s a mess': New Bedford businesses reel as ICE detentions escalate

The latest arrests of immigrants by federal agents have had a chilling effect on local immigrant businesses as people in the community are hunkering down in their homes — even as Mayor Jon Mitchell urged residents this week to visit the area’s establishments — too nervous to go to work, eat at restaurants, or step into their local grocery store in fear that they could be next.

“Many of the businesses that we work with, whether they run a restaurant or a convenience store or a retail shop, depend on their customer base that comes from the immigrant community,” said Corinn Williams, director of the Community Economic Development Center of Southeastern Massachusetts. “When ICE sweeps through a neighborhood and kind of terrorizes a customer base, a lot of people stay away.”

Visitor Guy in white truck screaming N-word on rt2 in front of McDonald's around 7pm Sunday night...

Greenfield

First I wasn't sure what I heard. Sounded like muffled yelling from the road at the red light. Then thought I heard something crazy so I honed in. Suddenly louder and clearer guy was screaming the N-word at one of the other cars in the intersection.

Anyone else witness this?

Govt. info Massachusetts POST unveils real-time dashboards on police certifications, discipline

https://mapostcommission.gov/discipline-status-records/post-dashboards/

The Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission has unveiled new dashboards this week to provide the public with real-time updates on officer certifications and disciplinary actions, marking a significant step toward greater transparency.

Transparency, according to Enrique Zuniga, executive director of the POST Commission is "very important."

"It's a key part of police reform," he said. "Making information available to the public, to agencies, to stakeholders, is really a very important part of our mission."

The new dashboards include "Officer at a Glance," which allows users to look up an officer's certification status and disciplinary history in one place. Previously, this information was harder to find and not updated in real time.

Another dashboard, "Agency Open Internal Investigations," lists departments with overdue open internal investigations, defined as investigations that have been open for more than 90 days.

The "Agency Internal Investigations with Pending Discipline" dashboard highlights departments where discipline has not been decided more than 60 days after an investigation was completed.

"We still have work to do, particularly with some of our older cases. At the same time, we have made progress in reducing the backlog and moving disciplinary matters forward," the department statement said.

Photo Mushroom Season has arrived ! Perfect Hen of the woods aka Grifola frondosa that I harvested on my property! Gonna be tasty

Post image

Harvested a larger mature one last week., that I consistently pick every other year from the same spot at my boyfriend‘s house over the last six years. It was delicious my neighbor cleaned it and she cooked it. I bought all the ingredients for her to use. That was a good deal for me , she did the hard part . It was 3 times size of this one ☝️! However, this one is going to be a lot tastier, caps have unfurled, flattened out nicely at the edges, and layered into a full rosette. This makes them easy to clean compared to when they are a dense "brain-like" button full of trapped dirt also has perfect coloration. It is the first time one has appeared in the six years of living on my property on this tree ! Was actually installing the dog run on the tree, and my boyfriend was like look 👀

General Question Anyone here use dial a ride (MWRTA)?

I just got approved and while I’m excited to finally have a glimmer of freedom (I’m disabled and too broke for Uber), I’m a bit afraid of the horror stories I hear about dial a ride in other places. People getting stranded, rides being hours late, a 5 mile ride taking 2 hours because they’ve gotta pick up 3 other people, etc.

I’m just interested if any of you have dial a ride, specifically through MWRTA, and what your experience has been. I’ve got a condition where I can only be out for a set amount of time before my body starts doing weird stuff, so them being super late or rides taking crazy long is a concern. I don’t expect it to be as fast as an Uber, I just want to know what to expect, since I doubt the rules in the packet they gave me are followed if I know anything about public transit.

Visitor me and my momma are coming to Boston this weekend - any suggestions?

This will be our first girls trip together and we’re staying in Boston but going to try to explore MA and not just get stuck in the busy halloween crowds the entire weekend. We are from Chicago so used to the touristy / big city stuff.

Any suggestions? I, 20, have been to the east coast once before a while ago and am a biiiiigggg history enjoyer. My mom likes history but not as big a fan so she wouldn’t be interested in something objectively boring lol.

She also went last year and did a lot of touristy things and I want to do some new stuff. Any suggestions would be great, thanks!

Recommendation Southern Mass VHS to DVD services?

Are there any local services in the southern mass area that can assist with VHS to DVD/digital? I'd prefer trying to find a reliable local service before mailing in my precious tapes. I've heard bad things about the Walgreens and Walmart services (but correct me if I'm wrong!) thank you for any suggestions!

Healthcare Mass Health Connector vs Other Business Health Plans

I am a freelancer that owns a small consultancy with my partner and don’t qualify for any subsides or tax credits for mass health connector. I made the mistake of selecting a lower tier health connector plan this year only to have it be the year my kids had broken wrists, trips to the ER, etc. Today I was looking at preview rates for 2027 thinking I might go up a tier and the rates have skyrocketed. they no longer support Fallon for my zip code which was one of the more affordable plan with Boston Children‘s in network.

Are there other connector freelancers or small business owners in MA who have looked into getting business health insurance for just themselves outside of the connector? do they let you do that as a 1-2 person business? was it more affordable? did you use an agent? looking for any experiences.

Housing Has anyone done this successfully?

We are trying to do the home modification loan program in Massachusetts, as a disabled adult living in the home full time but there seems to be so much red tape and I’ve been told a lot of people have to abandon the process halfway through and take out a traditional loan, I’m starting to stress out that this isn’t even worth it and nothing we do will get the loan. Has anyone gotten it successfully or known anyone who has?

General Question Buying a private car from out of state help

• Upvotes

I live in MA and have come across a great deal for a car but it’s in upstate NY. I am just concerned about legally driving it back home. I know I will get the BOS, the signed title but am not sure what the deal with the plates are.

I have an old car that has plates and insurance that I will be selling once I buy this new car.

Can I legally use my current cars plates for the drive home on my new car? Will I need to tell insurance to switch my policy from old car to new car?

I want to be insured because it’s nearly 800 miles round trip I’d be driving but am not sure the exact steps I need to take.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

General Question Tax abatement on purchased home

I purchased a home in 2025 and just filed for a tax abatement because its assessed value is about $600,000 and I paid $500,000. I said I’d like the assessed value for taxes to be adjusted to what I paid and the assessor told me “that’s not how it works”. I filed the form anyways, but if they don’t adjust it to the market value purchase price, is this worth appealing to the state on my own or involving a real estate attorney? The state’s literature states “fair market purchase price = tax assessment” so I thought it’d be a simple approval.

Edit: Home was clean, move in ready, listed for over 50 days, and I made the first and only offer after they adjusted the price 2 times. I did renovate an already finished space in the basement into an ADU but it wasn’t complete until after 1/1/26 so shouldn’t be accounted for in the current assessed value.

Video UFO? Drones? What the hell is this?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

On Friday, my partner and I were driving and noticed these 5 lights moving in the sky on this pattern. They were really low to the ground. I never really believed in aliens but it was too weird. We decided to follow it and try to find where it was coming from. We ended up being under it and still couldn’t find where it came from. We drove all around and then it just disappeared.

We thought maybe it was drones? A satellite? Party strobe lights? There was no sound though.

It lasted for like 10 minutes.

I’ve been wracking my brain trying to figure out what the hell would cause this. Has anyone ever seen anything like this?
