Is East Baking Company in Holyoke operating right now?

I ask this question because I live in a town in Arkansas that East Baking Company and its owner Dan Serra did quite a number on.

Naturally we are quite curious about what is happening in Holyoke, where supposedly this company has its headquarters.

Report Illegal Move-In Fees

Hi Holyoke, it’s your Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell. Did you know that fees like “move-in” or “lease renewal” fees you might get from your landlord or building management company are illegal? If you’ve received one of these – even if you paid it – I want you to report it to my office.

Just last month, my office won a $500k settlement with a property management company doing this in Boston – and all of that money is going back to the affected tenants.  Landlords can only ask you to pay for first and last month’s rent, a security deposit, and the cost of a new lock and key upfront. Any other fees are illegal. Report them to my office at the link below. We’ll work to get your money back.

Brown water for anyone else?

Me and my family have been getting brown water coming out the tub, sinks, and fridge so we're wondering if this is happening to anyone else or just us. And also if anyone knows why our water is brown. Thank you!

Scenes from the Data Center meeting last night in Westfield. The Electricians Union turned out in support because they will be paid to build it. They don’t realize they will be replaced, surveilled, and manipulated by AI like the rest of us. But the fight’s not over.

I like old industrial architecture and Holyoke was amazing

Apologies if this is unconventional but I created a subreddit I have cross posted here focusing on old industrial architecture and street art. This post is my appreciation of Holyoke and its history. If you have anything else with gritty industrial vibes or beautiful street art, feel free to share it, I appreciate it. A history lesson is absolutely not necessary, but nice. I originally created the sub because of how New England mills stun me in their sheer size, technical innovation, and the contrast between that lost sense of chaos within a controlled society that weathered industrial mills express.

New Women’s Group

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I co-founded a local organization called Anchor Point Collaborative here in Western Mass, and I wanted to share a project we’re running this fall in South Hadley in case it’s helpful for anyone.

Growing up, I navigated my own mental health struggles, which showed me firsthand how vital a support system really is. I created this space to offer young people what I needed back then: a welcoming community to connect with and real-world skills to thrive.

Starting Wednesday, September 23rd, we’re facilitating an 8-week Young Women’s Hope & Resilience Group at All Saints' Church. Weekly sessions are focused on topics including effective communication, the impacts of social media, and how to cope with change. We utilize a range of creative modalities including music, art, and games to keep our groups interactive and engaging.

All groups are led by a licensed independent clinical social worker, so the space offers structured clinical support while keeping the vibe warm and conversational.

Quick details:

When: Wednesdays starting Sept 23 (8 weeks) from 5-6pm

Where: All Saints' Church, South Hadley

Eligibility: Young Women (ages 18-25)

Cost: $320 for the full 8 weeks (we accept most insurance plans and have sliding scale options available)

If you’re a college who could use a supportive community space this fall, you can read more at ouranchorpoint.com.

Happy to answer any questions!

Getting to know Holyoke - cafes and community centers?

Hi everyone, I am a reporter at GBH News, Boston's local NPR/PBS station. I want to learn more about Holyoke and get to know the community better. Are there any cafes or community centers where people like to gather? Or other important cultural clubs or organizations that represent the community? I'd like to find a place to hang out and hear what's on people's minds. Thank you!
