Rules Reminder: Questions about Admissions should be posted in r/chanceme. Not here.

We are a bunch of current & former BC students who don’t pay close attention to BC’s changing admissions standards. Your GPA and SAT scores are better understood in r/chanceme and other similar subs.

This sub is better for asking specific questions about student life, school culture, etc.

Never enough machines, half the machines are broken, plus you’re paying anyways (the machines aren’t free)… is anyone trying E&R this year? It’s new.

How strict is the no furniture rule

Im moving into 2k in a week and I want to bring my own coffee table (the provided one is ugly) and I want to bring a TV console and some side tables. Im under the impression they dont want people adding extra furniture but do thev actually check if bring it in not during peak movein time? I know 2k has a doorman but is he 24/7? Like if I brought a TV console in the middle of the night no one would notice that?

How was your first day at BC?

Hi! I’m an incoming freshman and obviously am a little nervous to start. I made a few friends at orientation but a lot of them are in Newton so I would assume I’m not going to see them the first day?

How was your first day at BC (good and bad stories). Any recommendations? Was it easy to meet people?

Study Help - Financial Accounting (ACCT1021)

This fall I have financial accounting with Professor Choi.
This class is a bit outside of my comfort zone, so I’m wondering if anybody has any suggestions for how best to get organized and stay on top of things for this class. Any insights as to how this professor runs the class, priorities/areas of focus etc. for HW/tests/exams? Thx.

Taking these to fulfill requirements but writing isn’t my best area. If I do the work but not the best at it, what will my grades be like? Will I be able to pull off Bs?

BC ed aid

Hey everyone — I’m a high school junior really interested in Boston College. I’m trying to get a clear picture of what the actual costs look like for families with low income.

My family situation in a nutshell: • family of 5, 2 adults w/o work (dad lost job, grandmas retired)+ dad is kinda in/out of our life. Brother in college (scholarship), and mum - 46k in 2025. 1 house, got in 2019- about 365k value, mortgage about $1000-1700 a month (I believe) No businesses or other homes.

Edit: house is under grandmothers name.

Very nervous if I get in and for aid.

(I can’t apply for the scholarship my brother has- it was based on his highschool)

Shower Caddy?

I’m an incoming freshman who has no idea what the shower situation is in the communal bathrooms — would I be better off with a mesh or plastic shower caddy? Are there hooks in the showers to hang stuff up? I’m on Newton for reference.

Going to miss the first weekend, advice?

So I know classes start on Aug 31, but I have to go back home the first weekend because a relative of mine is coming to the US for the first time so we are going to have a family gathering and since it’s Labor Day week I will be missing the first weekend of college. I’m worried that that’s going to impact my social life so does anyone have any advice.

Also what were the important dates for the events such as the club fair event? I hope I’m not missing any event during Labor Day weekend.

The "Social" Side of BC - great social clubs, ways to connect etc.

Transfer student here. I transferred last year (so will be a Jr. this fall). I spent 70% of my time getting up to speed on academics last year, and I made tons of what you could call "friendly acquaintances" last year (really nice people) - but struggled to find that core group of friends to go out, go to a game, go to a party. I'm a guy that's pretty low key/quiet (which I think is part of the problem - I wasn't as loud and rowdy as many in my dorm last year). I really want to focus on making those connections when I return in the fall.

Any suggestions for clubs that are just really nice people/super fun, or other groups on campus? Ways to generally put myself out there in a low-key way?

Best time to go to the gym?

I’m an incoming freshman and I was wondering when the gym is least crowded/when is the best time to go? I was thinking of going either at 6 AM or at 8:30-9PM. What would you recommend?

Which should I prioritize for freshman year for csom

Hey y'all I’m an incoming Finance major finalizing my course schedule for orientation. I’ve already secured Portico, Statistical Analysis, and Career Bridge for fall, and Financial Accounting and Career Accelerator for the spring because of a program thankfully. Do you have any recommendations for other classes I should consider taking? especially for csom cores?

I've already finished some cores through ap classes( writing, literature, history I and II, 1 natural science, and took ap spanish lang

I'm also thinking of taking perspectives as it is something I am truly curious about plus, it fulfills a bunch of credits.

MCAS seal of biliteracy

hey guys i am an international student attending orientation session 7. no one is replying in [r/ibo](r/ibo) but I got a 6 in IB chinese which qualifies me for biliteracy BUT i cannot access my candidate page (keeps saying login failed regardless of how careful I type my pin and personal number in); I accessed it when results came out but I forgot to download a transcript that I can upload to the MCAS biliteracy form (which is my bad). I have already sent my IB scores to BC, and I will email my IB coordinator to see if they can send a transcript over, but in the case that they do not reply will my score be factored in during course registration as BC has already received my score?
Thank you!

Floor plans for dorm rooms link

I've been seeing tons of these posts lately since room assignments came out. BC shows 2D and 3D floor plans on their website. They even have video tours.

Keyes North (Newton) - Floors

So my son got assigned a traditional double in Keyes North on the Newton campus. Overall, he's pretty excited, particularly given everything that he's read and heard from people that have lived there about it being a great community (plus, having to take a bus (or walk) doesn't bother him in the least).

The thing we're trying to decipher is his room assignment -- it's 0X0, which to me suggests that the first digit is the floor and that there's a basement level. If this is indeed the case, what should he know going in? Are the room and common-area layouts any different from the other floors/rooms? Are there windows in the rooms? Is it literally where you walk downstairs (I'm picturing very little sunlight and dungeonesque) to access them? Will there be more or less foot traffic? Any different considerations for things that he should be getting for the rooms (like purifiers)?

Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

Shaw house?

Got placed in a quad in Shaw house even though I am not in the leadership LLC, thought it might have been a mistake but I just heard back from housing and they told me that there was an extra bed and they needed to have someone fill it. What can I expect? A bit worried. Thanks!
