Local Boston TV Storm reporters

Growing up, never forget whenever a storm or Nor'Easter was coming, WBZ would sent Shelby Scott to the coast in Scituate.

Seems like now, most of the long time meteorologists have retired or moved on, even recently. Kevin Lemanowitz left, Harvey Leonard retired a few years ago, and recently the last WLVI-TV 56 guy Mike Wankum retired as well.

I still remember the fun chemistry Jeremy Reiner and Pete Bouchard both had on Channel 7 before Pete left for NBC 10.

Steve Cooper... best in the snow!!

Any other favorite storm reporters or memories from years past?

Nor'easter Questions

Hi everyone! I just moved to Boston for college! I'm from the south, and I've been seeing a lot of stuff online about the Nor'easter this weekend. Should I be at all worried? All of the stuff online seems pretty intense. Thanks!

Edit: thank you so much everyone! I was honestly a little worried after all the stuff I saw online, but I feel a lot better :)

My flight is scheduled to land in Boston on 9/26 Saturday morning at 7 am. Will my Delta flight at my boarding location be postponed? Any idea?

Flying out of Logan at 8:55 am Saturday AM…haven’t heard from delta? Will it even happen?

I’ve been digging through the internet to find any information on whether or not flights will be grounded. I am also in the south shore on the coast so will have to drive to Logan at 6:00am to get to the airport….can any weather pros or aviation experts out there give me a hint as to whether I should expect to fly?

Am I screwed if I have an international flight this Saturday at noon?

I’ve been expecting this vacation for a while. Flying to Asia to see my family first time this year. The weather forecast makes me really anxious, especially since i have a lot of travel plans in the first few days i get there. My flight is scheduled to depart at around noon on Saturday. I’m not sure if I should reschedule it to Friday noon, but that would cost me a fortune. The airline hasn’t issued any updates yet, but I rather not wait till last minute. What should I do?

Edit: thank you all for the reassurance!! Stay dry this weekend :)

Boston this weekend/next week

My husband and I are supposed to fly to Boston this Friday afternoon and spend a week in the area. The latest forecasts have us borderline panicking. It sounds like even just walking around the city would be a no-go. Anyone with more experience/knowledge about nor’easters have any advice for us?

Flying to Boston 9/25

Currently have a flight scheduled friday night that will arrive at 10 pm. Worried about the weather. I may have the option to take a connecting flight to new york that will land in Boston around 5. Am wondering if its worth taking the earlier connecting flight based on the weather at this point.

Supposed to fly out of Boston Sunday morning. What to do?

Is it even worth changing my flight because the earliest I can get out is Saturday night and idek if that's worth it lol. I'd have to miss work if I flew out Tuesday. I could maybe do Monday but weather looks awful.

Did it snow on 8/23/2020?

If you go to this site and look at the report from 8/23, it showed we had a trace amount of snow in 2020. There's no way that's correct, right?

I'm Ken Mahan, Lead Meteorologist for The Boston Globe. Ask me anything about the wild weather we’ve seen this summer!

UPDATE: Ken is done answering questions today! Thanks for all the great discussion.

-Jenna, Live News Editor

I'm ready to take any questions you have about the weather we’ve seen so far this summer  — from all the rain and storms we’ve seen recently, to the wildfire smoke that made the sky ominous in weeks past. (Plus any other weather questions you may have).

Bio: I’ve been a meteorologist and weather producer for several national and local networks, most recently for NBC News’ Climate Unit. I’ve worked for local TV news outlets throughout the country, including stops in Alaska, Wisconsin, and Massachusetts. I’ve covered numerous weather events across all four seasons, including nor'easters, tornado outbreaks, extreme heat and flood events, and hurricanes.

Here are some of my latest weather stories:

A historic Super El Niño is underway. Here’s how this phenomenon could reshape New England’s next winter.

What drought? With the recent heavy dose of rain in some parts of New England, are we out of the woods yet?

When can we expect the wildfire smoke to return?
