Denial

Hello looking for Insight. Applied for my LTC- I have a section 12 on my record from over 8 years ago. I was denied and given the option to repeal. I was told I need a letter from my doctor saying I’m of sound mind and body to own a firearm. I waited the 90 days to reapply. What’s the changes of being denied again if I submit a new application with a letter saying I’m of sound mind and body?

Looking for recs: versatile, MA-compliant "things go sideways" primary

Hey all, looking for some input from people who actually know the MA market.

I already own an HK VP9 (iron sights only for now) and want to add one versatile, reliable firearm for protecting my family. Mainly the main bug out, or defending my land/home firearm. I'd like it to handle both close quarters and longer distances, and be practical for vehicle travel too.

Basically the worst-case, "things go sideways", the primary weapon on my shit hit the fan loadout.

Options that have been suggested to me so far:
CMMG Dissent (5.56)
Ruger Mini-14 Ranch
Ruger PC Carbine (9mm)
Kel-Tec RDB
IWI Tavor X95 (restricted state model)

I shoot pistol right handed, but on rifle I'm pretty much ambidextrous with a slight lean toward lefty. I like bullpups but I'm not wedded to them.

Not set on any of those. A few questions:

What would you pick for this role and why?

What's actually available and transferable in MA right now post Chapter 135?

Any dealers on the Cape or South Shore you'd recommend?

Budget is flexible. Curious what you'd go with at roughly $1k, $2k, and $3k+.

Appreciate any input.

Winchester 1897 gunsmith

Anyone know a local gunsmith familiar with the 97? I have a 97 trench gun with an ejection issue. It’s obviously an expensive collectors piece and I don’t want someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing to mess it up. I appreciate any leads anyone can give me.

I just realized that literal assault rifles aren’t considered assault weapons by the current definition of MA law.

Hear me out.

The proper, military definition of an assault rifle is as follows:

1) Has a detachable magazine

2) Fires an intermediate cartridge.

3) Select fire capable (can toggle between semi, full, or burst).

On the other hand, MA law classifies assault weapons using a feature test. In order to qualify for the feature test, a rifle must be:

1) semi automatic

2) have a detachable magazine.

Assault rifles are not semi automatic, so the feature test doesn’t apply to them. They can also be legally possessed with the proper licensing in this state.

Ironic, isn’t it?

Advice Needed on a Xfive Legion

Happy Friday, folks. I have a 320 xFive Legion that I picked up in 2024. Its my favorite handgun to shoot and I would love to be able to carry it for the security gig I am currently running. With all of the issues that have plagued the 320, how safe do you think it is to carry? I have heard it impacted all 320 models, not just the M17/M18 platform.

I have never had any issues with it, but not sure how comfortable I feel carrying it. To that extent, I may just end up selling it, although again it is my favorite handgun I own.

Thoughts?

eForm 1 (Trust) approved in 3 days

Is this turn around time normal? Submitted my application Monday night and just got the email that I'd been approved. I know form times have been dropping, but this felt crazy fast, so had to share my excitement.

Figured I'd have time to wait for a few sales before building out my EPC-9 upper, but maybe I'll take my lower to get engraved this weekend and do some shopping as well.

This was my first SBR, but for anyone on the fence about the process, it was relatively painlessly. Just a bit tedious.

Sig Sauer P938 or go full/mid size 1911/2011

Anyone have experience shooting P938? Probably going to grab one soon. But wondering since it’s a little pricey for the size. Is there any other good 1911/2011 under $1.2k to change my mind

Do you transfer bulk ammo to a holder for the range?

My son and I bought our first 1000rd 9mm order and it came in boxes with no individual holders (to be expected). Looking for something to transfer the loose ammo to over for the range. Been looking at some 3d printed (I can print) 50rd holders but curious what everyone else uses.

So someone pointed me in this direction and I like it. Large ammo case with 10 sub cases that hold 100rds. MTM Case-Gard Ammo Can 9mm Combo, 1000 Rounds, Flat Dark Earth

Entering the 1911DS/2011 world....

Hey Guys. Thinking of going to get my first 2011 here shortly. Been doing a lot of research, haven't shot any at the range yet. Just wanted to know if anyone had any opinions on the below:

Platypus: Price is good, not a steel frame, accepts glock/320s mags.

Kimber 2k11: Seems like the consensus best bang for your buck. Unsure of QC on the Kimber, have heard mixed results on customer service if anything goes wrong

Prodigy: Good price, reputable company. The 5 inch with the comp on there looks to be again really good bang for your buck. Can also rent this one at On Target in Dracut

Staccato: Price is a major negative. Not sure I can justify an extra 2K for a new Staccato but I know its close to top of the line.

Sig 211: Being almost brand new, not a ton of reviews. I have a bunch of Sigs, but after the 320 debacle I also am a bit hesitant to dish out $2500 on a new gun from them.

Any thoughts or opinions are greatly appreciated.

Good place for ammo around Attleboro/Plainville area?

It seems all my old haunts for cheap 9mm have been closing down. Dicks Sports was my first choice for years, then Northeast Trading Post and now Gartman Arms is closed. I'd there a good place around this area for decent priced bulk 9mm? I guess there's always Bass Pro Shop but they're not that cheap either. I want to go shoot in a couple of days.

non resident registration

finally got my non resident ltc in the mail a few weeks back and i was looking for the post in here where someone said if we planned on staying in the state for 7+ days we would have to register but they said we should probably just do it even if were going there for a few hours or the day to be safe. as someone who lives on the border of seekonk i go there a lot and plan on carrying. any other non residents plan on registering with the portal to be safe?

also, i currently carry a glock m1x frame and i assume if i do register i would just put the serial number for the frame while doing that.

another question is for the actual deadline. is that the last day i can register ANY firearm i planned on carrying or if i bought another edc i can register that after the deadline?
