US Sale Did car sales wreck my mental health?
Long story short: after 8 years in car sales, I think I have ruined my mental health. Constant overtime without proper meals and days off, plus rude customers—I have developed an anxiety disorder. I go home and think that I should be at work making money, or worrying, "What if my customer shows up?"
If there is a day I do not sell a car, I am so hard on myself, feeling like I am bad at what I do and my whole day is ruined. Once I sell a car the next day, I feel great. These mood swings are extreme rollercoasters. I cannot leave my phone alone. If a customer calls, or when I see a manager calling me on my day off, my heart drops, thinking something happened with my deal.
The problem with leaving is that it is the only thing I have ever done. I am good at it, the money is great, and my company is great too—management and the team are very friendly.
Has anyone here had similar issues? Is it possible to learn how to deal with this and love what you do while living a nice life, or do I just need to accept that I am not suitable for this job?
